I'd keep it a secret, but I wouldn't give it away to charity or spoil my family. I'd give some to close family yes so I can say I'm not a total heartless bastard, but I'm not altruistic enough to give to charity.

I wouldn't tell anyone. I'd pay off a bunch of family bills, but would tell nobody.

Mainly because I have this poor drug addict uncle who's always asking everyone for monet, and I don't want him bothering me even more.
He's got a major habit if he's asking for Monets to pay for it.

I've thought about this myself, and I honestly don't know. Either I would be completely quiet about it, just tell the people closest to me, or go balls-out crazy and scream at everyone that annoys me "FUCK YOU! I'M RICH, YOU POOR BASTARD!"

... it would probably be option 2, just telling the people closest to me.

I'd stay anonymous. I wouldn't want every Tom, Dick and Harry knocking on my door asking me for money because "their aunt got sick" or "they're having car problems". No, thanks. I'd happily sort VERY close friends and family out with something, and I'd still do SOMETHING with my life. I love how a lot of winners say "I'll still work at such-a-place." Rubbish. There's no way in hell I'd go back to the job I'm in now. I'd want to do something worthwhile, though. Something that I'd enjoy, succeed at, and make a difference with.

People talk it's going to come out eventually, and I'd prefer to get it out in the clear once and for all. Besides I would donate 100% to a single charity anyway, so I won't own the money by the time it gets out.

I'd remain quiet about it, maybe tell a few friends, give a bit to my family, and no one else.

I would do just about everything in my power to ensure few people knew I had come into millions of dollars. It changes things too dramatically. Depending on the lottery, though, I think it would be hard to have some kind of anonymity, given all the possible promotions or attention it might receive.

My plan, though, first and foremost would be to never really change myself dramatically through the money. Never suddenly try to start living a standard of life I cannot afford or am not used to. Live within my means, mostly, go back to school and pay off the debt I have already. The only thing I might indulge a bit on would be to move into a nicer apartment or condo. Nothing fancy or like a giant penthouse, but something much nicer than what I'm used to.

No I've always told myself that if I ever won an extremly large sum of money I would keep it to myself, although I would tell my closest friends and my family will find out but I won't broadcast my winnings to the world as that's just asking for trouble.

A couple, Colin and Chris Weir, have come out and revealed they are the winners of the Euro millions lottery. Winning a grand total of £161m

I can't help but wonder why you would come out and tell, pretty much, the world you've won that sum of money.

There's been previous winners of huge win who remained anonymous and have never been identified, so it can be done.

Myself, I would keep it hush, I would never do anything to give away the fact I won so much. I wouldn't want to buy a flash car, I would move to a slightly bigger house, but never tell friends I brought it out right. I'd also give a lot to certain charities.
I would spoil my family, but nothing that will make people think "where did they get the money from?"

So - would you come out and tell everyone you won, or would you remain anonymous?
Also, if you ever one that sum, what would you buy?
um... i'd buy what I want/ need, then the news would be that some masked figure gave the red cross/*insert charity* a meaga sum of money

the national lottery will not force you to reveal yourself if you win. Its optional but they will help you with the publicity if you do win. Personally I would not. Not only would I be paranoid about any new people being nice to be but the amount of begging letters you will receive would be astonomical. I remember a TV show about lottery winners and a couple who won about £1mill would get dozens a day, so i dread to think what you would get with a £161mill win.

I wouldn't. I already have enough people coming up and asking me for money without actually having money.

Basically everything the OP said. I would move up enough to be content, and store the money in the bank so I would never have to work another day. I would share my wealth to my close relatives and charities and sometimes my close friends.

I'm torn really, I mean I'd want to keep it quiet, but at the same time with that sort of sum of money not only would it be hard but I also always told myself, in the hopes of avoiding beggars and such, I would give out say 1 mil to the people closest to me, friends, family, loved ones etc. but at the same time tell them thats it, you can do what you want with it but no more from there, if you blow it thats your fault.

And the problem there is that even if I keep it quiet, all it would take is one of those people I gave money to to do something out of the ordinary, or say my sister to get drunk one night and blurt out "my brother gave me a million!" and its everywhere. I guess it would come out eventually but I'd try to keep it quiet as long as possible
