Why pay money for music when you can download it for free? To help the artists?
Please. Most people just download it off limewire, along with movies. I love being able to listen to music thats free to me. Any one else with me?

excuse me but i dont think you should be talking about engaging in piracy around the forums, its one way to get disliked or banned.

i personally like buying cds, movies and games because
1. i like having the boxes and
2. i know some musicians and i enjoy making game mods so i understand the effort they go through to make these.

dont pirate people, it is stealing, and you should not think it of anything less

To help the freaking artists? Do you even realise the idiocy of your statement?

Go sit in a corner. Just go.

Well sorry (slight sarcasm on my end) whe are not all as rich as you are, i think the main reason people pirate, is because whe just don't have the money to buy Cd/Dvd's

Because its moral. Yeah I pirate music too, but i'll at least go back and have the decency to buy the albums if they were any good. Show support, dont be a leech.

Music artists don't really lose money from people pirating their music. They just lose income, which they hardly need after all they got just from basic merchandise.

But you know what I like? Artists who sell their stuff, and on the places where they sell it, actually have tags saying "Pirate our music, as music should be shared."

Love those kinds of artists. They gain a little bit of money from those who actually buy it, spread their music faster than they would by NOT asking for piracy, and still gaining a little money to make even MORE music. It's the plan to please the crowds.

Sorry, my comment was pretty harsh, but please understand that piracy is worst for the artist and, ultimately, the person listening. The reason being because they won't be able to make anything else if they're not making any revenue.

Well, downloading music is a great way to discover artists, you'll otherwise would never heard about. But if you do like their music, buy it!

I pay for whatever entertainment when I feel they deserve my money/support their product. Except for pregnant crack whores. I just point and laugh at those.

an artists revenue should be entirely funded by donations from their fans, as well as concerts. thats just my opinion, not only does it give the artist proper feedback on the quality of his/her work, but it also removes any middleman and provides a direct line between the artist and the.... fans(i hate that term) only in this manner will we cease to be music consumers and turn into music appreciators.

Not every artist is rich, sometimes you are stealing from people who don't earn millions from their work.

If you pirate NIN Trent. R won't mind, but do it to somebody who has just started and you're a cock as well as a thief.

[I'm typing this from a DSi, so cool]

i'm sure music artists get enough money from gigs, merchandise, radio air time and appearances. Don;t see why they need CD sales all that much lol

The Escapist doesn't want to be seen as a site that condones pirating, thats the official viewpoint. However, as the community has grown a lot of members have been actively voicing their support of piracy. The piracy network on the internet is large and I'm sure everyone has dappled in it at some stage in time, but openly supporting piracy is something you have to be very careful of.
