I sincerely hope they change the mechanics of the weapons. Outside of VATS, it felt like my mighty plasma-gun was simply spitting on high-level enemies. That, and the combat outside of VATS was weaker then American beer.

Grenade launcher machine gun?

FUCK YEAH!
That and that orbital lazer thing looked AWESOME.

But yes, grenade launcher machine gun. It's hard to get cooler than that.
A gun that shoots pieces of lightning?
You mean a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning?

That gun could only be more awesome if it had tits and was on fire.

Praise the gods. All I wanted out of this game was more of the gameplay I love from Bethesda's implementation of the Gamebryo engine. My biggest fear was that Obsidian was going to fuck around with it too much.
Really? You did'nt want the distinctive Dark and Pop Humor that the series is known for that the third on lacked?
I'd love the writing that those Black Isle refugees are known for, but 99.9% of the time I'm playing Fallout, like any game, I'm not playing it for the story. Gameplay isn't just king---it's god.

Aiming down sights? Hell. Yes.
Sgt. Foley is pleased someone finally listened to him
Was he the guy who made that Mod? I hope they paid him for all the old iron-sights. That would be epic.
Oh nonono
In MW2 the tutorial level has you aiming down your sights A LOT as commanded by Sgt. Foley.

"Aim down your sights to..."
"by aiming down your sights you'll..." and so on

He honestly sounded like he was talking like Yahtzee for a minute, there, but I guess he had limited time.

I have to say, I was really more apprehensive about this than I was about Fallout 3; I loved Fallout 3's combat system and I felt the NMA forums could go die in a fire, but since New Vegas was being made by a new company, I thought they might mess with the general combat quite a bit.

But it's good to know that it'll be mostly the same experience as Fallout 3, in terms of both combat and setting, and I for one am definitely shelling out $59.99 when it comes out, if not more for the Collectors' edition.

But I still stand by my opinion that they could have made this into a patch or DLC or some shit.
It's a whole new section of America, with a completely new story and (rumours) of over 40+ hours of gameplay. A DLC this does not make.
Mmmmkay? And The Pitt, Mothership Zeta, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and all the others didnt add new sections of America? With completely new story? Or at least, they added on to it.

Also, the whole 40 hours of gameplay thing doesnt sell me on it either. I can get 40 hours of gameplay out of just one fucking mod to Fallout 3.

Yeah. Still not really understanding it.

Errr.. Nice.. I suppose?

I mean, I'm not sure what changes they made to the VATS system, or what the reputation thingy is, but I'm pretty sure some mods to Fallout 3 can accomplish the same damn thing.

[small]Unless they made nut shots possible.. Then I'm buying it[/small]
A very retarded idea. This will be an entire game unto itself, with a totally diffreent main character. It would suck if they made one more add-on instead of giving us a game of even larger size liek New Vegas. There will doubtless be about 5 add-ons for New Vegas, so in the end by making a seperate game they have given us the opportunity o get just as much as we did from Fallout 3

For those shooter snobs whining about FPS, fo fap to halo live as you lay under a 13 year old Corpse Humping you.
*Sigh* The thing is, is that New Vegas seems just like a fucking mod to Fallout 3. OOoooOOOH! New characters, storyline, weapons and monsters! Well guess what? Mods and DLC do that too:
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3211
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3157
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5059
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6341
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6170

There. Five Fallout 3 mods for your pleasure. Each adds monsters, characters, weapons and new parts of the world.

Ohhh yes. Tell me that mods cannot accomplish what New Vegas can. Tell me one more time.

So still, I stand by my opinion. New Vegas has brought nothing exceptional to the plate in my eyes. Unless they do an entire graphical re-haul, and all sorts of other shit, then I'm not sold on it.

MMMKAY

You seem to be forgetting that all of those pieces of DLC added sections of America on the East Coast and Mideast, whereas New Vegas takes place in NEVADA. To have it as DLC for Fallout 3, they would need to create the ENTIRETY of the Midwest as well, including the Rockies and the vast, interesting expanse of Colorado.

There's a reason this isn't DLC. Something tells me, however, that you won't change your mind. What could it be...

Links to mods and such
Oh, there it is. Look, guy, you can whinge about how mods add just as much gameplay as a potential game, but the fact is, most mods suck. Even things that only add sections to a world mostly suck. You can say that mods add EXACTLY what New Vegas is adding, but the fact is, 90% of players don't want to wade through the shit to find the very few good mods that exist for any game. I own Oblivion, and have downloaded countless mods and add-ons for the game. 90% of them suck, even the ones that just "add monsters, characters, weapons, and new parts of the world."

You also seem to be forgetting that they're modifying the VATS system and improving UI. As for your comment about graphical re-haul, all I have to say to that is this.

Lawl.

But since this thread isn't about convincing you to buy New Vegas, I'll leave you to your inane chatter.

@topic

Also, the video doesn't seem to show us much that we don't already know. I mean, everything in there has been described in meticulous detail by Game Informer, IGN, The Escapist...

Noooo...

Gameplay is the sun and Story is the moon.

Without the light from said sun the life of all video-games, aka the gameplay, games would'nt be well games. But one should never under-estimate the power of the story aka the moon of a game. Said moon is what pulls you to continue onward with a game by subtly using its gravatationl pull of characters, general plot, atmosphere, and setting to control the tides that is the want for a player to continue onward.

For the Fallout series said moon is a distinct blend of dark and pop humor and a blend of optimistic (a tone I wish more post apocalyptic tales would have) retrofuturism with pessimistc grim and gritty science gone awry and while the third one nails the last two down (more or less), it fails to capture those first two bits that fans of the series see as the series's emblem mark. Like how all JRPG's have teenaged heroes who are either male and ambigiously female or female and ambiguously male. Or how all western RPG'S have protaganists standing reverently on the edge of a cliff or mountain looking at some countryside or city scape below.

Story is the thing you skip in between killing people and breaking things.
