Ludicrous Gamestop Experiences

I recently encountered ignorance to the extreme at my local Gamestop. I asked for a wired Xbox controller and was told that all that existed were the old white ones and third party brands. This is not true. I've held a black xbox controller that was wired before. They assured me it was a controller with a play and charge kit and that I didn't know what I was talking about.

Here is what I was talking about. I see it at Best Buy all the time. So I returned to the gamestop with my smart phone to show them the page online. When I arrived the employee I talked to straight up ignored me and got his manager who told me to quit harassing them and to assure me 100% that a wired black xbox controller did not exist and was not sold in retail and online. He would not look at the page i had loaded on my phone.

Okay...so i went a little overboard with that one. But you know what, I feel like they should have known it was real and i thought it was very misleading for them to tell people that a product that is very real did not exist.

Share your stories of Gamestop ignorance/and/or ridiculous claims they've made. I hope you enjoyed my story. I felt like it was worth it making that trip across town to prove a small fat balding man wrong. I regret nothing.

Yeah... uh, they are human too, they make errors. They didn't treat you right as a customer but you know, you could've just taken your business elsewhere.

Lol "Gamestop".

Pretty much all I have to say. If one store is bs'ing you, go to the next.

Can't say I've had any issues at EB, Space Ghost. The employees at the one I shop at seem to know a fair amount. Only problem is bullshit pricing on used games.

I like the guys who work at my local Gamestop. We're in the middle of the city and they get some really annoying customers so I always feel a little bad for them. They really don't get any kinds of information updates besides "here is the new hot item this week. Put up the signs. Make a huge rack that is full of this game. Promote it like your life depends on it" And they have to do this with as little heads-up as to the specs of the game, what it is, any technical issues it has and whatnot.

Overall, Gamestops aren't bad but they are usually completely under prepared to handle customer questions and stuff like that. It all depends on who works there.

I personally have not had trouble with Gamestop except for once when I preordered Persona 4 (Which I still haven't gotten around to playing since I haven't finished 3) and the store I picked it up from didn't have the art book. They said that some of the other stores might so I went to a different one and they gave it to me.

I suppose I should hold the fact that they're a gigantic international chain store that chokes local outlets out of existence, but I don't have anywhere else that sells games near my house anyway. So it's pretty much buy from Gamestop, go completely out of my way, or don't play console games at all.

Not saying I don't believe your story.

I wanted to buy Left 4 Dead and they said, "We'll sell it to you for $60."

It seemed rather fishy at the time, so I passed on his offer and went to Walmart instead, which was right next door, and got the same game for $20.

I think next time when I go to GameStop I'll ask how much Halo: Reach is and if they give me a price higher than $30, buy the game at Walmart, go back to Gamespot and tell the guy that their prices are bullshit.

I don't even know if it's the same company, but I've never had a bad experiance in the Game stores here in the UK. I mean, yeah, their prices are shit but they do have the best selection, £20 for a used game is better than nowhere in town selling it, I just make sure to check the other shops first.

You can't really blame the staff at the local store for that though, and when it comes to knowledge about games and peripherals they do know their stuff.

N/A. Above posts are the reason I now days avoid retail stores. The employees in the store rarely have any idea what they're talking about.

I buy my games online, additionally Gamespot doesn't operate in my country.
Retail here generally sucks. Its best to avoid massive taxes and a greedy corporation that has a monopoly and buy games online.
I don't use steam, though. Steam is EVIL.

You know, you come off as the bigger asshole here. Its not the clerks fault that his company has high prices, take it up with them and stop being such a douche about it.

This is actually my problem with a lot of complaints, people say they will yell at the employee, when I have been on the receiving end of it, and it takes all my restraint not to reach over and shut the customer up. Its not our fault. Complain to the actual company. We are not the company.

OT:

My worst experience has been pretty minor. Got sold a broken game. It was used and they hadn't tested it and they gave me a new one when I told them. This is the UK game btw.

More or less, my frustration is with the company, and I'm sorry you get that impression, my appologies, but when I asked the clerk who told me he'd sell it to me for $60, I asked him if I would it be $60 everywhere else seeing the game was like 3 years old and in my past experiences games that are out that long have a dramatic price decrease. To which he said no and looked at me like I was crazy.

I've had a conversation in line with a complete stranger about the online hacking stuff and found out they can take pictures of you via webcam

1. An employee insisted that an XBox controller would work with a PS3
2. Gamestop has managed to confuse every game I pre-order with the XBox version of said game
3. Every time I buy a console there, it is damaged in a way not covered under warranty, even if brand new
4. I bought 4 different games from GS, and they were either scratched or missing the CD key, again even if brand new.
I play Minecraft now
