you sure they jsut didnt have one at the store? I imagine it would be rather hard to give you one when there's not one in the store. Also, those guys probably make minimal wage or less, so they probably just dont give two shits.

OT: Hm... The one I go to is staffed by a friend, and he makes that place run efficiently and amazingly. But I wnet to a different one, and the guy there told me that SMT games sucked, and I was like, hunh?

But thats more different opinions.

The only local game-specific store we have is a couple EBGames locations, and the PC racks are gone. >:|

Basically, I'm buying all my physical copies from London Drugs, and the rest from Steam. What a sad statement.

And since I use London Drugs and Steam, I don't get horrifying fail shopping experiences.

My worst gamestop experience, was as an employee.

Being called by a customer who literally wanted to call, just to yell at me. I seriously asked the guy "I understand you're upset, but I'm not sure I can do anything. I'm just a sales associate. I have no power" and he replied with "I don't want you to do anything. I just want you to feel bad for what you did."

For the record, what I did, was fail to explain in intimate detail the return policy. I said to the guy, "If it was open, you can't return it for full refund. If you don't open it, you can get your money back if it has been less than 14 days" and somehow it's my fault that I didn't explain to him what would happen if it was broken. He asked what the return policy was. If he wanted to read the full page document, he could have.

Seriously. People think that the employees know everything about every game and system in existence. I like video games, but I had never owned a ps3 or 360. I didn't know much about them. I tried my best to learn but there is always something you miss.

Sorry about the rant. I'm just getting really tired of people hating on employees.
Yeah. People wonder why employees seem rather dickish, its because the constant stupid, rude, horrid customers chips away your sanity and humanity, leaving a bitter, angry shell. Well most of the time at least. I had it easier than most, which I'm thankful for. But damn, most of the time its the customer thats being a douche rather than the employee. And of course the customer thinks he knows better than everyone else.

Freaking pricks man...

If you ever have a problem with Gamestop employees, after you make your point ask them for a copy of Battletoads.

Unless it's a relatively new Gamestop, somebody should have a fit and threaten to kill you or call the police.

Meh. I buy all 90% of my games online these days.

A random person on ebay normally gives a better service than a retail outlet like Game or HMV.

Best online site for me personally: ShopTo

I've never had a single issue with them, and all the stuff I have ever pre-ordered from them has arrived a few days early.

Plus Online is just so much cheaper than Retail these days, its actually gone beyond funny!
I can actually afford to buy new. Many new copies are cheaper than Game's used copies.

I actually laugh my head off when I go into a HMV or Game and I browse the pre-owned section.
It provides me with a good 20 minutes entertainment.

it is not as bad as having an employee be sexist!
my best guy friend and myself went into a EB games and note that my male friend knows very little about games and was just being nice and coming in with me. the employee went up to him and asked if he was looking for anything. he replied that he is not looking and that I was looking for persona 4. he said no we don't have any in stock in a snooty tone and walked away. I then saw another dude in the EB asking for persona 4 and said that they had a copy of it.
I was so pissed! I found the manager and told that I was ignored possibly for because I was female.
I seriously hope that employee got what was coming to him!

but the EB I usually go to I have never had a problem. only good times!

I got a prank call about that once. I was not amused.

Actually I was about 3 hours later when I stopped being an idiot XD

I must be really lucky, since I have never once encountered an ignorant/idiot GameStop employee. I have encountered rather stupid GameStop customers, i.e. a guy who wanted to trade in CoD: World at War for the Wii for the nonexistant CoD4 for the Wii (this was a year or so before CoD4: Reflex was even rumored to exist, mind you), but all the employees I've run into have either been awesome, or just ok.

An example of this luck: I had an employee from a local GameStop almost pat me on the back for buying a used copy of the original TimeSplitters. How awesome is that?

I walked into the store, asked if they had a game in stock. They did, I went to the counter to purchase it. They asked if I'd like to subscribe to Game Informer, I said no thank you. I payed and went on my merry way.

Those bastards. How dare they try to sell me something.
This pretty much encompasses my entire experience with Gamestop except for two notable occassions:

The first is when I heard a stellar review for this game called "Portal." I went to buy it and the employee behind the counter suggested that I should get the "Orange Box." At first I was like "Orange -wha?" (shush, I was young!) needless to say for only ten dollars more, I left much more satisfied.

The second time is the night I spent six hours freezing my arse off for the midnight release of Wrath of the Lich King, I spent four of those hours discussing the pros and cons of the Razer Naga MMO mouse versus the Steel Series WoW mouse, good times.

Now if this were about Radio Shack (now called "The Source") it'd be an entirely different story.

My friend who is female went into gamestop looking for a Pokemon game. She says they gave her looks like she didn't belong and talked down to her like she didn't know anything. If I lived anywhere remotely close to her (she lives in Jersey I in Mass) I would have gone to that Gamestop with her and just acted stupid while making her seem like the one who knew all about games. (she only really plays sonic and Pokemon though)

The poor guys work for a very low hourly rate. What, do you expect them to go home and fucking research every single peripheral, obscure or not? Do you want them to be walking encyclopedias for all things gaming? They're people, just like you or I. Do you know how boring and dreary working retail is? It's a daily grind, and when self-entitled shits come in to be a smartass for no good reason, you want to smack them in the throat.

Were they completely right in the way they handled your query? No. But that does not entitle you to come back and be a smartass to people who do not even give a fuck.

I also love the assumptions that all retail employees are idiots. My friend works at a candy store, and she's studying Biomedical Engineering at university. My step-brother is a cashier at at a supermarket, and he's doing Actuarial Studies at the best university in the country. I work retail, and I'm studying for my degree in Psychology. Hell, one of the people I used to work with just got his Juris Doctorate in Law. That's his second degree.

So my message to gamers, I guess, is to stop being such entitled jerks, and to stop assuming that you're the smartest person in the world.

I would have raged hardcore if I was you, OP. I don't handle situations like that well, lol.

When I was 17 or so I went to EB Games to buy Gears of War. As the guy was ringing it up, he took my debit card and then we had a conversation that went like this;

Employee: So, you buying this for your boyfriend?
Me: No.
Employee: Brother?
Me: No.
Employee: ...dad?
Me: Nope, it's for me.
Employee: Oh. I'm going to have to see some ID.

I happened to not have any ID on me, which meant I couldn't get the game. I'm absolutely sure that he carded me because I'm female, since he was ready to hand the game to me when he thought I was buying it for a man.

I didn't go back there again.

I probably should have done that. Would have been hard to complain without ID though. Hum.

I haven't had any bad experiences at Gamestop, but I go to the good one in my mall where I used to worked and know all of the employees. Though one of my friends apparently got told by an employee at the other store in the mall to choke himself for liking Forza and Oblivion.

EDIT: I actually have not seen a wired controller for the 360 that is Microsoft. Even when I worked at Gamestop they did not have them. I think they don't sell them there.

same, never have had a bad experience at Gamestop.
Me neither. The Gamestop I go to has competent members who actually play games other than FPS's, and the used games are always in good condition. The only problem I have with them is their ridiculous trade in values, as in one case, when I wanted to trade in my CoD 4, they said they would give me 2.00 USD when it still sells for 30 USD. But, I also like gamestop for their points system, which is cheap for 15 bucks a year, which give me discounts, bonuses for pre-ordering, and a 12 month subscription to Game Informer.

I would have told those douches off if I had worked there. Damn outdated alpha male attitude in gaming. Seriously, fuck those kind of people.

I went to a gamestop to buy a copy of borderlands and when they asked for the edge card thing, i said no, I payed using my card and went on my merry way, BUT the bastard charged it anyway and i didn't get anything so i complained and they still didn't pay me back for something i didn't pay for, oh and i didn't get the bonuses afterwards so i don't shop there anymore. That pissed me off

A black wired xbox 360 controller is not an obscure detail, almost every other store i went to afterwards had one. Besides which of course I know how they feel! I'm in the minimum wage club too! :D They're big boys, they can handle a somewhat disgruntled customer or two. Comes with the territory. If anything i bet they were just pullin my leg and got a good laugh about it after when i left the store.
