If you have a hard time finding a used copy of ICO, and the clerk says it was just purchased-

I'm that guy.

I have yet to have any personal issues with them, though I have been present through some very dumb customers. And even today I heard the employee giving tech support to a customer over the phone even though it totally isn't his job.

The customer was a Vista user saying that he had issues running Crysis 2, turns out the guy didn't have DX10 installed. And was still using DX9 despite being sure his drivers were up to date.

I have also seen my former room mate shoot his mouth off and come off like a complete ass when trying to apply for the store. The best part was that the only console he owned was a Wii and his laptop couldn't run anything made past 2005.

Anyway I have nothing but good experiences and do sometimes go in just to chat with the guys.

Lol "Gamestop".

Pretty much all I have to say. If one store is bs'ing you, go to the next.
pretty much this. There is one gamestop I normally frequent but I went to the one slightly farther away (quarter mile instead of a sixth). Anyway, I picked up a used game. It didn't work so I went to return it and the clerk who sold it to me (sorry: he was a manager) Anyway, he looked at the game and said he didn't sell it to me like that, implying that I went home and rubbed the gamecube disc on my patio for an hour before bringing it back. He did take the thing back though, full refund. The gamestop closest to me is the one I am currently working at. If we don't have something I always advise people against going to that store.

I don't go to that one anymore. I shouldn't have gone anyway since the mall it's in is known for the quarterly gang-shootout but I was determined to get my copy of Super Smash Brother's Melee.

I had a gamestop employee tell me that the 360 Data Transfer cable could only be used once, than had to be replaced.

I asked if they had Magicka in stock (didn't realize it was steam-only at the time)
They said how the hell do you spell that? Understandable.
a minute of typing later, I was told it did not exist -.-

Then I went to a different Gamestop and the lady employee told me that it might have been a steam-only thing.
The fact that a girl knew more about games than a guy made me :O

When I arrived the employee I talked to straight up ignored me and got his manager who told me to quit harassing them and to assure me 100% that a wired black xbox controller did not exist and was not sold in retail and online. He would not look at the page i had loaded on my phone.
That story isn't actually that bad. Sounds like he was just stupid and stubborn. I don't even have a 360 and I know you could get a black wired controller.

Try this one: I pick up a case on the used rack then go to wait on line. It took them forever to get through the 5 customers ahead of me because they have to try and sell everyone magazine subscriptions, strategy guides, and pre-orders for games a year away; y'know the reason you're always waiting forever on line there. Then I wait forever while they look for the disc before telling me they don't have it. Then why is the case there?

That aint that bad either.

How's this: I finally go back after getting a gift card and seeing a buy 2 get 1 sale. I get a couple of games for myself and one for my bro who I was on my way to see. I go down to get the subway, I check to make sure they gave me the right version for my brother only to find the case completely empty. I did get the manager to pay my subway fare after telling his clerk off; he just wanted me out of the store.

That's not that bad either.

This one happened to my wife's friend who finally found an appreciation for games in the wii. She didn't know much about games but goes to the gamestop where they forget to put the game in my case to get a wii-fit to go with her wii. This was when the wii fit was really hard to find, so instead of suggesting ebay or something, they laughed in her face.
She doesn't go there anymore.

But any gamestop experience can be ludicrous. All you need to do is buy/trade in a used game or pre-order something.

The Gamestop that I used to go to in my town before college has employees with some of the biggest attitudes I've ever encountered in retail (at least regarding the 4 employees that I've personally had to deal with on more than one occasion). Nothing major though... however, I'm never greeted as I walk in or thanked when I leave, I just get snippy attitudes when I ask for a sealed copy of a new game (especially ones that "girls aren't supposed to like"), or dirty looks when I say they forgot to take my PowerUp card.

But the Gamestop close to my campus has the nicest employees. My friends and I usually go pretty late when the store is empty and we just chat with the two guys that are usually there. They also think it's awesome that I like the games that I do and I'm a girl :D

I do have a funny store though regarding Gamestop...
On one of those aforementioned nights when my boyfriend and I were in the store, we were browsing the Xbox 360 section and this guy came in. All the sudden we just hear the employees saying NO over and over as the guy approaches the counter. Turns out this guy was a deaf solicitor that comes to the store once a week after buying his Dunkin Donuts... they've had to kick him out on more than a several occasions. Pretty awkward but strangely funny at the same time.

3. Every time I buy a console there, it is damaged in a way not covered under warranty, even if brand new

So, how many times have you done this? You just keep buying them after the failed you the first two/three times?
I've bought a Wii, PS2, and a PS3 before I noticed a pattern, and switched to Best Buy.

I've been to 1, ever. It just happened to be the only video game story readily available at the mall, so my gf and I went in. We ended up buying AC:B. Get to the counter and the girl tells us we can save by buying used. Ok, sure. We find a mint condition disc, mint box, and manual so all is good, right? She also tells us we get a card to save 10% on future used game purchases. Great... except after we left I realised she charged us for the stupid fucking card I'm never going to use. If it's not free, don't pretend like it is!

I've never actually had any problems with the Gamestops in my area, hell I've had cases where they've given me more money for a game than I paid.

Ever since my friends who happened to work at my local gamestop stopped working there it has gone to shit.

The new manager is an awesome guy, but he knows nothing of games, and barely knows how to manage a store from the looks of things.

This one girl who seems to live there since shes there every day of the week for the whole time the store is open is one of the thickest people I have ever encountered.
This all happened about 8 months into the PS3's life.
Someone came in and asked about a PS3 and if it was capable of connecting to wifi, she said no and that you had to go online and buy one of those broadband connector things for the PS2 that no longer exist... for a PS3.

Also some poor child was given a game they could not use because their mother came in and asked if PS3 games would work on a "Playing Station 2" and was given the answer that all PS3 games work on the PS2.

She wasn't the worst one though.
This guy who most likely had some form of mental deficiency took traded in demo disks as the full game.
He was later fired for, what I heard, stealing over a thousand dollars worth of WoW time cards and 5 xboxes.

I'm not sure how they are now, as I buy all my games off Steam now.

About a week or two after Suikoden 3(or 4, I can't recall) was released, I was told the game didn't exist. In fact, that the game series as a whole didn't exist, and I must be confusing it with some other game that started with an S, which didn't have any sequels. I thought I might have been pronouncing it wrong, so I wrote it down, and still he insisted, without checking, that the game didn't exist. I went to check the actual displays, and found a used copy. I didn't rub it in or even mention it when I bought it, but I was very amused, given how entirely certain he was just moments prior.

I was harassed by a Gamestop customer and earned a gift card for it once. I was playing a Guitar Hero or a Rock Band and this older guy was looking at DVD Remotes for 360. He kept asking me if they would work for a normal xbox and I ignored him the whole time. He then said he was going to "speak to my manager for ignoring customers and playing f**king games!" So I told him to be my guest.

Couple of minutes later I see a gentlemen come over to me and he hands me a $10 gift card apologizing the whole time.
