We were down? I never noticed. Anyway, I don't like Lulzsec at all. I just hope they leave us alone.

TO CLARIFY:
The outage occurred during the afternoon of the 14th, New York time.
And New York is like 5 hours behind GMT, so I'm thinking evening of the 14th for those in the UK?

It was out around three hours a couple of days ago, around 10pm - 3am GMT iirc.

Kept getting a 403 forbidden.

Apparantly the escapist was locking people who posted anything about it, and they didnt make any news about it and considering how eve and minecraft were brough down as well id think this was pretty inportant gamming news.
That would explain how it's passed my attention so easily. But yeah I'd have thought taking things down like the ever-popular Minecraft would both make news and also drive enough people to discuss the issue.
It did, they pissed of 4chan, though whether it is the /b/ parade of the hacking side I do not know. If they pissed off the hackers behind Anon Ops (though they have more to worry about) then they may have met their match, I'd not know.

first great internet war?

Wait...what?

Is that what caused the lag over the last couple of days?
Lulzsec causes lag? That's it?
...
Well that's the end of western civilisation for sure.

Kids today, I remember my first time with a Unix account on the university servers too.

Ignore them and they will hopefully go away.

With any luck Lulzsec and 4chan will take each other out and the world will be a better place for it.
well, we'll see about that, hopefully.
I guess even audiences get caught up in wars like these.. i'm getting bored now....

For me they just became a good excuse to blame poor game performance on.

You suck!
Sorry, think my internet went down for a tiny bit.
Ah, the old Lulzsec excuse I see...

As far as I can tell, this thread hasn't been locked down. I think the mods are probably just trying to avoid one similar to the ranting that supposedly got Lulzsec's attention in the first place.

However, a news story with a locked comment thread could have been a good way of informing people without causing the same reaction on the threads. (Just an idea)

They attacked us because:
1. They like attention
2. They're probably members and got "butthurt" about the majority of Escapists disapproving of their actions. In their twitter they link to some threads that are bashing them.
3. Who cares? They're on their way to being arrested I'm sure. Jerks.

No it was a DoS attack. You can't take things in a DoS attack.
*chuckles*
You sure about that?
Yes if they had info they would have already posted it for a start. They way the website went down and t he fact people could still access it to a small degree in the downtime also screams a bad DoS. They also said they were firing the Lulz cannons with a about 0.4% which also points to a simple DoS rather than the other stuff they have used before. If they had gotten user data they would already be gloating about it. The fact that haven't gloated about it nor released anything saying they have our password does not fit their MO and yes I did download that list of password just make sure and I was not on it anyway.

Sorry, I meant to say that it is entirely possible to commit other sorts of attacks during a DDOS. A couple of older exploits actually involved overloading a system to the point where it would crash via DDOS, and inserting your own code during the debug dump.

Ok well that's fair enough I thought you meant they got stuff from just a DoS. Anyway from the aftermath it does not look like anything was taken.

These guys Lulzsec seem pretty foolish to me.They say they hack for the lulz, but really, they do it for the money.I've read their convo with a guy from FBI somewhere over the net and a lulzsec guy said they were in for the money.Of course, they can't gain money by hacking The Escapist, or the Bethesda forums, so they also just like to mess things up.If they're trying to tell us that the net isn't secure - well, we already know that.Everything can be hacked.
And believe me, they won't stay longer than 5 years in jail.Hell, that's too much.

I gotta say their twitter makes me laugh though.Lulz.
