[quote She was already in stage four when treatment started. Fortunately, she went into remission and is doing much better now.[/quote]
Thats awesome to hear! We think he is in stage 3 from what I can gather from the internet and the info the doctors have gave us.

I have fortunately never had to deal with lung cancer. Some of my relatives have had other cancers, but never lung cancer.

My grandfather had lung cancer. We couldn't afford the treatment at the time so he died.

My other grandfather got kidney cancer. This time we COULD afford the treatment. He still died.

I'm truly sorry to hear that, if it wasn't for my dad being a veteran he wouldn't be able to afford anything either.

Has anyone delt with lung cancer, either yourself or someone you know? I would like to know how bad they had it and what treatment they got and how they are now. My father just got diagnosed with it and I would like to know about other peoples experiences.

Thanks
My family and I are dealing with this now with my father. Being a heavier man, surgery was going to be dicey. They performed what is known as radio frequency ablation (sp?) about seven days ago. He's still pretty weak, but he seems to be getting a little better every day. We're kind of in the "wait and see what's left" stages right now, but things are looking up.

My sympathies to you and your family. It's really one of those things you never know how you'll react to until you have to face it yourself. I'll try to keep your father in my thoughts, too.

Why, aren't you just a ball of badassery?

My uncle is dieing of Lung Cancer right now. They found out, and a week later told him he might as well go home, because he was going to die. 45 years of asbestos and various other toxic construction materials have pretty much corroded his lungs into useless flesh.

If they haven't sent your father home with a bucket of pills and an apology, he still has a shot.

Hey mate, personally ive been very lucky to only know one person who ever had lung cancer, but she died of old age before it could get her. i just watched your videos on youtube and i found them to be very moving, im glad that you had the idea of videos as a way to create a monument to your father, i truly hope him the best, and i hope he recovers. Please keep updating this thread or your youtube because i think people deserve to be remembered in some way.

When I was 5 or 6 my gramps died of lung cancer. One of the most saddening sights to see him wired up like that a wire for every inch of his body I remember. At the funeral everyone brawled like I've yet to see again. He was a great man. I still remember the fun we had together. Makes me sick when I see people my age (14) and younger smoking. One the reasons I promised myself never to smoke, do drugs or drink. When your that age things can effect you forever. The way my mum dealt with it is family just support your family and they'll support you.
Oh and good luck, hope you don't need it.
And what your dad has is probably nothing compared to want my gramps had so don't worry.
Remember your family is always there for you.

Your total disregard for human life sickens me.
I don't care what they did to you.
You don't need to go around posting shit like that.
It ain't gonna help anybody.

Damn that sucks man. I don't know anybody that had lung cancer but I know it came for John Wayne and he beat it. But you don't have to be as tough as John Wayne to survive it. I do believe one of the Kennedys also recovered from the disease.

There are stories of hope out there. I want your dad to be one of them.

Well, let's hope then that the people close to you won't give a rat's ass either if you die before your time. For the record, you disgust me beyond belief. When you finally bite the big one, make sure you'll be reincarnated as a rock - that way you won't have to deal with pesky human relations and you won't use up any precious oxygen, either.

OT: Never knew anyone with lung cancer, so I'm sorry to say I don't have any accurate advice for you. About five years ago my mom died of cancer, but I still don't know exactly what type; it was apparently a relapse of her long-dormant breast cancer, which was successfully treated with chemo and radiation, but not before it spread to other organ systems (again, I was never told the specifics).
Basically, if they caught your dad's cancer early enough you might have a shot with chemo and radiation. Best of luck to you and your family.

My gran died of lung cancer, as did my great aunt. Two family friends have died from brain tumors........and pancreatic cancer killed my dog.

Since then (about 15 years ago), cancer treatment has improved hugely. Funding into research has increased and survivability rates are better. So, OP, don't worry yourself constantly, just take each day as it comes and be there to support him.

I've had Hodgekins lymphoma twice- once at eight and again at 16. Neither event was fun. The one thing I did take away from the experience is the importance of staying positive and keeping going with as much of your life as possible. Maintaining an upbeat emotional state can affect all sorts of factors like white cell count and response to therapy, as can having faith in the treatment and in the knowledge and expertise of the medical professionals that prescribe and administer it. It may not sound all that scientific but the results, particularly in relation to pain relief, of keeping your mind on the job of getting better are there for all to see.

Good luck to your dad and I hope he comes through this in one piece, biopsies notwithstanding.

My god man! I'm extremely sorry! Thank you for the advice, I hope the last 15 have been good for you!
