Iron Maiden.

Obvious answer is obvious I suppose.

Maiden fan reporting in here too.
I also listen to Rock from 80:s like Pretty Maids, Kiss, Blue Öyster Cult, Alice Cooper and the sort. Some Heavy bands I like are (except Maiden) Hammerfall, Helloween, Mötley Crüe and more. Then again the definition "metal" has changed since the 80-90:s when some bands like Savatage were Metal back then but now they're "Rock" since Metal's become heavier than back then.
Why I listen to this is most likely because when I still was in the womb my dad played loads of rock/heavy music (I am 19) and so I felt the vibrations from the speakers and that made me feel comfortable. Just one idea of why I like metal/rock.
My favorite song is Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden, I have always liked the song and for many years when people ask my favorite song this has been the answer. I know nothing about music in the way of chords and stuff so I can't give a musical reason why I like it other than that it just clicked from the very first time when I heard it.

My interest in metal goes as far as 80's hair metal. Most modern metal just sounds like noise to me I'm afraid.

Also, endow means giving something as in literally giving something from one person to another.

No you don't mean that at all. You mean tell you about songs and bands. I'd have to go out and find a band and hand them over to you in order to endow you with a band.

And yes it's been made clear that glam metal like Motley Crue, and Ozzy Osbourne isn't welcome here already.

Actually, I'd say Ozzy's new album is metal. Not super heavy by any means, but still.

Lately iv discovered this band (Mechina) which rekindled my love for avant garde epic metal, they have this space age, futuristic atmosphere which goes oh so well with the fuckin brutality.

This is fabulous. I also thought it sounded quite similar to Mirrorthrone and was happy to see it's the same guy.

I typically listen to black and folky stuff really, but I'm pretty open minded.
Anyway, a few things:

well guess like a lot of you I started listening to Megadeth,Metallica,Anthrax,Slayer, Sacred Reich, The Almighty, Exodus, Testament, Fear Factory, Machinehead, Corrosion of Conformity and countless others that I'm not sure if they fall into the 'metal' category or not(Where do Korn and Suicidal Tendencies fit in ?). In terms of newer bands, can't think of many that I listen to and think are great ... listen to Slipknot (Prefer Stone Sour tho), a little Disturbed and Avenged Seven Fold ... but to me they're not great just ok. Suppose they're meant for a different generation and I'm just gettin older.

As for the topic:
My favorite band is Kamelot. So yeah, I like power metal and progressive. And rock songs given the classical treatment. Look up Vitamin String Quartet for some samples, and classical music given the metal/rock treatment. Look up "Vivaldi's Winter" by Dark Moor for a sample.

Solution .45
When Christian Älvestam left Scar Symmetry, he formed Solution .45, one of the best metal bands ever. The lyrics were written by Mikael Stanne and performed by Christian Älvestam and, contrary to Scar Symmetry's lyrics which are about futuristic and abstract stuff, are about more medieval stuff.
