M Night Shyamalan booed by NYC audience... though I'm not sure why?

M Night Shyamalan's new movie trailer for 'Devil' received jeers and laughter when aired in NYC.

Thing is, I'm not quite sure why... there was nothing particularly funny in the trailer, which is here:

Apparently they erupted laughing at the words 'From the mind of M Night Shyamalan. Am I stupidly missing a very obvious joke somewhere?

Anyone know the full story here? Is it something to do with Last Airbender?

i would laugh. I'm of the opinion that his early stuff was good, loved signs, but his recent stuff is absolute shit. he ruined last airbender, completely ruined it.

This is the biggest reason. I thought The Village was dumb, Lady in the Water was awful, The Happening was just...complete garbage, and as far as I know, The Last Airbender is terrible.

As far as I'm concerned, 3 strikes and you're out of here. He has turned himself into a laughing stock.

It's because his films tend to the sucking. Unbreakable was good, Sixth Sense was fine....EVERYTHING else was crap. And the shit he pulled with The Last Airbender.....well, he needs to be tarred and feathered.


Also, it's his attitude as well. He still presents himself in interviews and the like as this genius who is nigh-on infallable and that the viewers "just don't get it".

We get it, you are a one hit wonder that flared out early.

I think the fact that he was never able to convincingly fake humility (I honestly think he's no more arrogant than your average director, but he's not as subtle), has worked against him. I think a lot of critics and peers were looking for his downfall when he was Hollywood's wunderkind, and when gravity inevitably took hold, they wasted no time pointing it out. And the public reads what they write.

I though Sixth Sense was regarded as his best, and Unbreakable his second best. Weird.

The guy's made three bad films in a row, he's in a major rut so people turned on him.

I think this looks like it could be alright, but you never know with him. I even thought the village looked like it would be good.... i was wrong.

The sixth sense isn't regarded as crap and neither is unbreakable. Overrated in sixth sense's case, but definitely not crap.

I have actually led into singing the lama song with his name. M. Night Shamalamalama duck...

Maybe I didn't articulate my thoughts into words correctly, but I think you misunderstand what I'm saying.

I mean that everything he's made except for Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, The Village, and Signs, are crap. Or at least they are rated as such.
