M Night Shyamalan booed by NYC audience... though I'm not sure why?

I didn't go through and read every post, but everyone knows he isn't directing that right? The Night Chronicles is a production company he started to further other directors in the horror genre. It is actually directed by the Dowdle brothers who directed The Poughkeepsie Tapes and Quarantine.

I think it looks like a great move for the Dowdle brothers as they are evolving out of their mockumentary phase (which was still great) and exploring other areas of the horror genre. You can still get some of the mockumentary vibe from the camera the security guards are watching, but otherwise it is new territory for them.

ON TOPIC: People laughed at his name because they think he is bad. I only like a few of his films, myself, but the fact is he has a very real grasp on cinema and the idea that almost everyone knows his name says something about that. All his films have a very well defined feel where you can tell it is something he directed (except maybe Air Bender as I haven't seen it).

SPECULATION: I have a feeling he agreed to work on Air Bender to acquire financial backing for his production company. It is a trend that a few other directors took part in to finance their own pet projects (James Gunn wrote the first two Scooby Doo movies to finance Slither and Michael Dougherty wrote Superman Returns and X2 to finance Trick 'R Treat), but this hasn't been confirmed and I could just be making it all up.

I think it might just be from the trailer, the first time I saw it I larfed pretty hard, its just rediculous, and classic M Night Shyamalan (not in a good way). I do think booing him is a bit extreme, but hey, its NY where the consentration of people who think they know what they're talking about is a little dencer in some places.

Listen, I don't despise M Night Shyamalan, he certainly isn't the worst director out there, perhaps plot twists and strange situations are the one thing he does extremely well so he doesn't have to worry about anything else, like how Michal Bay does action and special effects well, so he usually doesn't concentrate on much else. And in both cases, I can respect that, its like maxing out one of your stats in any RPG, you're still going to be able to bring down the next challenge so long as you rely on that one stat, but you're eventually going to get tired of it.

I laughed when M Night Shyamalan's name appeared, but that's only because it says:

"Comes a new nightmare from the mind of M Night Shyamalan" towards the end of the trailer.

When placed into context with his historical record for making poor movies... Yeah... It's funny.

Because his lip-syncing only lasted throughout his first 2 movies and now all he can do is a ho-down.

That actually looks pretty good but...
The happening was terrible.
And so was lady in the water...
And so was the last airbender....

Seeing as how he hasn't created anything worth wild in about half a decade, I think people find it funny that he thinks this one will be any better.

probably because the last airbender was supposed to be his save or break film
like if it was not good then basically it was a sign he should quit...
at least that's what i've read

Well the premise alone is laughable. And even I would jeer at seeing his name. He's turned into a hack after a string of terrible movies. Honestly, I think he should consider retirement, or at least a long reprieve to try an turn his career around.

The acting in that trailer was terrible. Also, notice how the buildings were upside down in some parts? I call a weird dimensional shift twist ending where the elevator leads to hell or some shit.

I just watched Lady in the Water yesterday. I hope Shyamalan gets shot out of a cannon made out of Paul Giamatti's intestines

Quite frankly, even if Shyamalan's name wasn't prominently attached, the "generic spooky alien chuckle sound" and the over-emoting "Turrrrn Onnn Thuhhh LIIIIIIGHTS...!" wouldn't exactly be making me wait for this one with bated breath.

Yes, I too enjoyed The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs. Then came The Village, and I started to have doubts. And now... Well, let's just say M. Night might be smart to show some humility and stop featuring his name above the #@$&ing title.

At least, basicaly being a "locked room" murder mystery of a sort, this one is likely to rein in the budget a bit.

This explains it but basically, it's a trilogy. Seriously. A movie that occurs entirely in an elevator is supposed to be a franchise starter. Seriously.

I think that's kind of unfair. I for one quite like Shayamalan as a director. Signs, Unbreakable and (yes believe it on not) the village were all good and the sixth sense is one of the best films I've ever seen. I never saw lady in the water and yes while the happening was his worst film there were some parts of that that were just masterful. People give him a bad rap and I think it's unfair since there are plenty of directors that are much worse than him out there.
I'll definitely give Devil a go. Hopefully it will be a return to form.

The real twist would be if this next movie didn't have a twist... But then it would have a twist... ERROR, ERROR! DOES NOT COMPUTE!

alright I'm going to say that it's because he made not that great of movies and thus he is a joke but on an unrelated note my guess on who it is in the movie is the black guy think about it he is in a uniform and no one would ever suspect him

I guess people have decided that his movies just...suck.
Huh... I quite enjoyed his movies, though I only saw Sixth Sense, the Village and Unbreakable.
Yeah, but most people remember his more recent works of Lady in the Water, The Happening, and The Last Airbender.

And don't remember fondly.

Shyamalan is a joke nowadays....but the movie seems like it may be good, just so long as the "surprise ending" doesn't suck. Knowing his style, the "person who doesn't appear to be who they are" is probably a fraggle or something incredibly stupid. That would explain why the building is falling apart. The construction worker guys are trying to upkeep the buliding while the rest of the fraggles are eating the support beams. Stupid Shyamalan.....stupid fraggles.
(But really. The fraggles are cool. No hate here. lol)

Not sure why anyone would just start laughing and booing when his name turns up in an otherwise serious looking trailer? This clip from South Park will explain that, and also Michael Bay. [http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/155700]
