depends on what i want it for,

if i want to get work done with no interruptions (mac)
anything else PC

but nothing can justify the 500% premium on each part, which is why you should tipple boot.

only issue with mac people is they must show others who dont use macs the awesome features

ill stick to my cheaper PC that i built and for laptops ill stick with IBM and ASUS

From a personal perspective, I use PCs because I grew up with them, and despite the inroads Apple has made they're still the primary machine for computer gaming. Some people don't want them for that, some people want to use consoles for gaming, and that's a valid point. Personally I'd rather only spend on one machine for my work/play routine and I don't mind losing out on console games to do it. I also like to be able to build my PCs the way I want them, they're cheaper and you can save a lot of extra money by omitting the stupid pointless stuff computer manufacturers insist on stuffing into a build (I don't have a BluRay drive or a dedicated sound card, for example).

From a professional perspective I work at a software company, and we have a Mac version but almost nobody uses it. Maybe a few creative arts based companies use Macs, but the fact of the matter is if you go into a typical massive corporation they're almost exclusively running Windows, usually Dells in varing degrees of obsolescence. I can concede that this is because Microsoft/IBM had such a huge initial market share and MAYBE if Apple became more popular the tide would shift, but right now this is the way it is and it's not going to change anytime soon. Corporations are very stingy about upgrading or changing computer systems and a shift in the entire OS simply isn't going to happen with the majority of them so sticking with Windows is a very safe bet.

Macs simply do not offer what I need and because of that, I do not use them. What do I need? Games and upgrades.

Do macs have right-clicking yet? I remember that was one of the old jokes about macs being crap, but I havent been paying much attention to it in a while.
In a way yes. At least on Macbooks. If you have two fingers on the trackpad and click you'll have done a right click.
that seems like a lot more effort that just clicking the right button...

And what about clicking the mouse wheel? how does one button get around that? (not mocking, genuinely curious)cause i don't think that they have scroll buttons... Might be wrong tho.

someone explain to me why do Macs (iMacs? those crappy Mac Pros? MacBooks?) have this reputation for video editing?

We use powerful PCs running micro$oft OS for CAD. There's adobe after effects and all those wonderful software applications on windows. Microsoft visual studio, etc.

of course they do... just because you can't see a line between two buttons doesn't mean there's only one.

anyway, I'm a mac user, but I'm getting a gaming pc because... well I want to play videogames on it :D not that it's impossible on an Imac, but these things aren't exactly easily upgradeable.
oh, and I got a blue screen of death in bootcamp just this morning. so yeah, I think it's time this one got retired.
Of course they do? More like why the heck didn't they have one for 15 years while claiming to be more user-friendly?
Makes their products look simpler.

their 'magic mouse' (standard mac mouse for desktop macs) has a touchpad, and you scroll by rubbing it ;)

that means no mouse 3 button.

There was a time when Mac OS was much better suited to that sort of thing. In a sense that heritage lives on with the quality applications in that sector that are around for Mac OS today (not including FCPX by what people are saying).

But with increases in general computing power and the vast improvements that have come to Windows (Windows 7) alongside the fact that all the major software suites extend to Windows too, the notion of Macs being better than PC's for the creative stuff is more or less invalid now.

In short, they have the reputation because of their heritage, one that can no longer be lived up to because the rival does it just as well now.

I like PC better. I don't need video editing and the prices are outrageous. Macs aren't compatible with shit
...oddly enough, they're actually compatible with Windows and Linux. Multi-booting is easy with macs... which are, after all, just PCs built by a very self-involved company (this from a lifelong builder of PCs who shuns any system not built with his own two hands).
I'd be more inclined to say that it's the hardware that's compatible with Windows and Linux. Its been made widely possible (Bootcamp, Parallels) because of the Intel chipsets essentially unifying both Mac OS and Windows at a silicon level.

I love my Mac, why because it's Mac. No other reason, any Mac user will (probably) agree with me that a Mac... It just feels right. I still use windows for gaming, but other than that I do everything with my Overpowered 12 Core rendering beast of a Mac. (Very soon 16 Core)
I'm willing to bet an equal machine I built running Windows can outdo your Mac at any test you desire. That includes web browsing, media of any kind etc...

Personal preference and the xenophobia I'd say as Mac doesn't really do games.

I haven't used it much, and it's just a pain to get used to. I like doing stuff in a way I know how, and mac turns the controls on their head for me.

If I want Linux, I go to Ubuntu with the GUI similar to windows *shrug*

One reason I've never got into macs and snow leopard OS (i'm into their iPhone and iPod touch because they're so user friendly and they work as light substitutes for my microsoft desktop, might wait for windows phone) was the price tag. They build sturdy, great looking 'aluminum' boxes, but the hardware components are overpriced.

In addition to that, the apple OS doesn't seem to offer anything special over what I can get in Windows 7 or several free Linux distros.

A Microsoft desktop makes me sure that I can almost always run whatever software I have, and I also get good driver support; I almost never get any software compatibility issues with a Microsoft OS.

I hear that with an apple operating system I won't get hacked or have any security problems, worms, trojans, viruses, spyware, BSODs, and all that horrible stuff you get with microsoft OS. Can anyone verify?

I use Windows for gaming and Ubuntu (w/ Gnome desktop) for work.

Under Ubuntu, the tools I use run faster than under Windows, so it makes more sense to dev under Linux. As I'm a PC gamer, Windows is my only real choice for that :p

I don't have any cause to use a Mac or their OS, so no interest in using one.

BOTTOM LINE: There is nothing a Mac can do that my PC can't do for half the price. No exceptions.
(Some stupid reason like 'it can't run OS X' doesn't count)

Are Mac's better for use in art design or PC? i forget.
All of the programs that supposedly work better on Mac also come available for Windows. So pro-Mac artists argument's are invalid
