We had the same thing in the states awile back with that Holloway chick that went missing in the bahamas.

People need to face facts, Media and news outlets are business and sensationalism sells and news media will beat a story to death if it gets them ratings.

Fuck it, I'll be politically incorrect.
Madeline is dead, her parents did it, and they got away with it. Also, who cares, people die all the time, let's ignore this.

The media were having a slow week so they blew this up into more than it is: Lazy idiot parents. I honestly couldn't care less about the girl, it was ages ago and far more important things have happened before and since.

Now that I think about it, the only person who's annoyed me more than the McCann's was Jade Goody.
And that was because the media could talk about nothing else other than her.

On topic, making a movie is a fucking disgrace. Especially when you're making money from making said movie.
I do hope the McCanns find solace in their religion. It must be nice confessing all their sins.
"Neglect...left our daughter alone in a hotel...made money out of our plight...used it to pay off our mortgage..."

Sorry, I think I went a little OTT there. But come on!
WAIT. They're getting a MOVIE DEAL out of this?!?!?! Now I want to murder somebody. Also good on you for admitting you hate Jade Goody. Any person who will sell out their death to the media didn't deserve fame in the first place.

I stopped caring before it even began. Its like the whole jade goody thing. Pleanty of people go through cancer and most are far more deserving og the attention she got. Thousands of kids go missing every year all around the world, why should this one girl be more important than the rest
must...........not...........make........innapropriate...........joke
god its hard to restrain myself
i think the same about jade goody if she hadent have been on big brother nobody would even know who she was (apart from her friends and family they might have known who she was)

They're still talking about it because it's such a ridiculous case. The parents were incompetent for leaving their kids alone instead of using the hotel's babysitting service, the police were incompetent for smoking in the fucking crime scene and the hotel workers were either oblivious to the fact that she had gone missing or incompetent too.

I hope they catch the scumbag freak who took her and let this story die with whatever scrap of dignity it has.

Even if the parents didn't directly kill the girl - which, to be fair, I don't believe they did - it's still their fault for being bloody idiots in gallivanting off to do something else and leaving her. I have a theory which goes something like: as soon as a story of a missing child or teenager makes it to the national news, the chance of finding them safe and well is virtually zero. I don't know if my assumption (based on a bit of psychology) is correct or whether it's just coincidence, but unfortunately it's a pretty accurate theory.

As far as I see it, this can only go two ways. It'll either be a grim discovery or another Ben Needham situation (showing my age there, those not old enough to remember news items from 1991 might need to Wikipedia it). Either way, I don't care. Sometimes I feel guilty for saying that kinda thing, but these days I tend to see it as self-preservation - if I worried about all the shitty things in the world that don't directly affect me, I'd go mental within days.

Apparently there was a similar story many years ago. The general consensus of opinion at the time was that someone had taken a child for their own. The child would be young enough to forget about the previous parents and would have had their hair dyed.
My opinion is this could have happened to McCann, there was all this media uproar about her disappearence, then the people who took her got scared and killed her.

I'm also sick of hearing this, was a slow news week and now they won't stop dribbling on about it. I wonder if the whole blood in the car business was actually true or just a fabrication of the truth to sell papers.

it's a tragedy to be sure, and i was disgusted by the number of plebs at my school who went about saying "I've got maddie", thinking they were incredibly charming and witty, when they were really making a bad taste joke about a serious topic, but it did happen well over a year ago, and frankly, there is little chance she is still alive. the past is the past, the family have had their greivances, and will never go to a resort in spain again. But people, there is more news in the world, and just because a waiter "Definitely possibly saw maddy or her kidnapper(maybe)" doesn't make for interesting or informative reading. even reading about jade goody's funeral is more interesting.

Theres ridiculous focus on this particlar causcasian british girl, mostly because of that.
Any case where they ignore her blood in a car they rented afterwards is...well...biased.
Like it wasn't already biased? The only newspapers that care basically say the same thing every day and that's "Don't go outside! It's full of Queers, Blacks and Crime! If only Diana were here! She'd find Maddie!"
Wow, almost copied and pasted from that Russell Howard Live Show I have on DVD. Coincidence, or a fellow Russell Enthusiast?

On subject: Yeah, I don't think even the parents care anymore.

EDIT - Could have also been Charlie Brooker.

They've actually sold the movie rights too. Seriously.

The justification? It will bring attention to thier plight and increase awareness.

I can see why they are completely over compensating though, they feel guilty because they know it is themselves who are ultimately responsible.
Are you kidding me?? Sold movie rights? And they're supposed to be griefing? What the fuck?

If they did it to promote awareness etc, they should have given them away. Tsus making sure they actually get out. You just don't go around and make profit on your child's dissapereance![sup]Resist joke[/sup][sub]tell the joke![/sub][sup]must ... Resist ..[/sup]

But on the other hand, you don't go around leaving your child unprotected in your hotel room either. No.Matter.What

Her parents are attention whores, simple as. It's a tragedy that their little girl is in all likelihood dead, but they aren't half milking it for all it's worth. They'll get a nice fat cheque from each newspaper, magazine and news station they sell developments on the story to, and get money through donations too, which they claim goes to help finding her, but I would put money on them also taking a cut. They even got to meet the pope for crying out loud! They should just let it drop, if for nothing else, just so I don't have to keep reading crap about it on the news.

I really hope you're pulling my leg or I may just have to hunt them down and kill them.

What kind of sick human being commissions a movie about their dead daughter!? I personally find that disgusting that they would sell their child like that.

Making a fucking film about her isn't going to increase the likelihood of her being found this long after her disappearance. It's just soliciting the image of their daughter for a bit of extra cash.

It's not raising awareness, I don't think there's a person in the UK who hasn't heard their drivel over the last year and a fucking half they've been dragging this out.

God I hate the media so very, very much.

Right. That's it. I'm done. I've officially lost all faith in humanity. I thought there might still be some kind of good somewhere in this world but I guess I must have been wrong.

This really gets me that somebody could pitch an idea like that, and that a studio could think about backing it!

It's not often I actually get riled up at anything I read on the internet but this issue has really managed to piss me off.
