Is anyone like me getting excited about this game? I think it has a really neat idea when it comes to shooters. It'll HOPEFULLY make shooters much more strategic and less full of X kills/X deaths ratio we deal with in CoD4 and other games. I just hope they pull off the game right, not making it some sub-par shooter with online capabilities.

Care to put up some info about it? Or a link to something? I have no idea what it is.

MAG stands for Massive Action Game, a PS3-exclusive MMOFPS that will use a new server technology to include up to 256 players in online matches. Also, it's by the people who made SOCOM, I think. That's about all I know.

MAG is, as said above, Massive Action Game, an online FPS that will connection 256 players on a massive battlefield, split into 8 player groups. It'll have multiple classes, stat rankings which will determine leaders for the 8 man groups, and so on.

Ah. Right, with added information I can say two things:

1) I will not be getting it, namely due to the fact that I do not have a PS3.
2) I hope it does well, because I'm sick of people thinking MMOs have to be RPGs.

So Battlefield: Big Battles then?
I realise the execution may be different but that about somes up the premise right?

Well I'll admit it: Xitel is right.

If I had a PS3 I'd piss myself silly at the mention of this game. Yet I chose 360(and I am just as happy as if I had a PS3 for all of you fanboys out there) and my PC needs work.

To be honest I did not think it was an MMOFPS, just an FPS with a ridiculous server size(and they are divided into squads and what-not just as well).

Yeah, I just hope it doesn't go back to the old mantra of online FPSs with highest kill-death ratios mean the best players and such. Incorporate point captures, air assaults, armor support, communications and reinforcements, etc, all into one battle. I think it'll turn out well if executed well.

MAG, which stands for the hilariously retarded acronym Massive Action Game, is an online shooter in development by Zipper Interactive. These are the guys who brought us the SOCOM series. MAG will be exclusive to the PS3.

What makes MAG unique is that it will, supposedly, support 256 players in a single battle. Each side is divided up into small, eight player tactical teams, led by the player holding the highest rank in the squad. There is also supposed to be a supreme commander system for each side in the battle, like the commander in Battlefield 2, who directs certain teams to take on certain objectives. The commander will always be the highest ranked person on that team, so theoretically the best and most experienced players will form the chain of command. Character customization and weapon and gear customization is expected, and there will supposedly be class systems. Vehicles are in too, ranging from APCs and tanks to, apparently, fighters and bombers.

There will be multiple sides that you choose to fight for. The ideas being thrown around as of right now are the US, some European coalition, and some Middle Eastern coalition like the MEC in Battlefield 2.

For the most part, details are still pretty sketchy. We don't even know if it will be a first or third person shooter. Trailer can be seen here:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36474.html

I think it looks great so far, and can't wait until we get more details. I am rather skeptical though, and I hope the rumors of pay-to-play are the bogus that I expect they are. Still, if this works...I think we will be dealing with THE online multiplayer console game of this generation.

TPS should be thrown out, that gets rid of the flanking factor that shooters should have. Makes it much easier.

MMOFPSs have existed. And failed. And no one remembers the names of the games that already existed. Hope this goes well, because no doubt EVERYONE will tag on to the idea and make different variants for the P.C and 360 if its a success.

Its not like tactics just pop out of the ground when the player count goes up - some new options are available, but some old ones are not, its simply a matter of scale.

Now thats out of the way, MAG worries me, ive never been a fan of larger scale battles in FPSs as they always tend to lead to more screwed/easy kill situations, moreover im worried about connects and hit detection because while SOCOM 2 was possibly one of my favorite games of all time the aforementioned issues were HUGE and the sequel only got worse. I could care less about MAG actually. I can see a lack of cooperation, huge clusterfuc*s, and a general sense of frustration paired with downright fury.
