The great vastness of the city never ceased to overwhelm her.
Elira strode among the streets, her skin-tight breeches and heavy wool tunic drawing many the disdainful glance. "Idiots." she thought as a pair of younger men jeered lewd comments at her. She flicked her wrist, and a thick gust of air bowled the boys to the ground. They scrambled away, fear lining their faces.
"For every action..." she mused, crossing her arms beneath her breasts. The city had been quiet lately. Far too quiet to be natural. Elira felt that familiar prickle at the base of her neck; anxiety was encroaching once more.
She cursed under her breath, swiping an apple from an unmanned cart. She casually stepped away without alerting the shopkeeper; not a difficult feat, considering the man was asleep. Elira played with the apple, tossing it up and catching it before raising it to her mouth.
The prickle turned to a stabbing pain.
Elira dropped the apple, whipping around in search of the cause of the irritation. The thick crowds pushed by blindly. She felt the stab again. Her body shuddered under the force of the blow and the sounds of ringing steel resonated in her skull. Elira clamped her eyes shut and felt consciousness fade.
The world spun, and Elira found herself face to face with a pair of massive blades. Instinct took over.
Elira allowed the adrenaline to flow through her veins, felt her pupils dilate, and the energy of the wilds fill her. She slid fluidly to the left, tightening her grasp on her quarterstaff. She slowly became aware of the others surrounding her, and the great titans clashing; far too close for her comfort.
She felt inexplicable hatred for one; "Alkaloth." she knew his name to be.
A war between Planeswalkers. Elira felt a shiver rise along her spine. Not of fear; but anticipation.
There were many men and women there. Elira felt herself analyze each of them, searching for clues in the way they bore themselves. Little did she find; all she felt was hatred for some and sympathy for others.
"Something controls and warps my thoughts. This is no mere chance meeting." Elira stepped to the side, observing the argument beginning to froth between the newlymets.
