Magic means Zombies. Real, necromantic, animated corpses. None of this "Infected" garbage.

I'm loving all of the vague and apparently profound responses in this thread. Almost Mystical they be.

I'd got for science. Who says you can't eventually have a means to summon something from (Seemingly) nothing? Sure, magic is more here and now, but you always see it destroying it's controllers. You know, 'my power is too weak' and such.
Yeah, 'cause you never see scientists go overboard with their precious "research"...
Hey, no need for sarcasm. That's not what I meant. I meant that magic users always seem to become weaker the more they use their magic whereas the techno/steampunk/whatever people don't suffer from that.

Well in order for them to be able to compete we would have to be discussing science so far advanced it is indistinguishable from the common conception of magic. At which point i would probably opt for science as its more gritty and real than pansy magic.

What are you talking about? There are plenty of instances where magic does no harm to its users (runes) and often times makes them more aware or "enlightened".

Well, for me, I have to say that the answer lies in what can make me live (or exist) the longest. So, on the Magic side you have the Lich, who is a Wizard or Sorcerer who underwent a ritual that killed their bodies while binding their souls to an object so that the could re-animate their now-dead bodies, with the added effect of increased Intellect and magic potential. On the Science side, you have Cyborgs and personalities loaded into computers, and we all know those definitions. So, my answer depends on whether there is an impending apocalypse or not, as if there is Lichdom is the best option, as in the post-apocalyptic world, I would rather not have to rely on repairs in a world where repairs are scarce. Without an Apocalypse, I would side with Science, because I wouldn't end up rotting like the corpse I would have become, and that's pretty bad for getting the chicks.

Why not BOTH? Hmm?

Who's to say one negates the other? This is not pulp fantasy here, what's to stop Gandalf from picking up an AK47 and continuing the fight that way? Imagine how many Orcs he could kill that way. There is no reason one cannot combine the advances of technology with the wonders of magic, creating a world the likes of which has never been seen before!

If there's anything Jonathan Strange and Mr.Norrell have taught us it's that magic can be used for the betterment of all mankind when held to scientific standards. After all, if it weren't for magic how would England have ever prevailed against Napoleon, right?

Right?

Well there both means to control, science just requires more power to use than magic.

Who says you can't have a black hole to the noggin with Magic?

Well technology would be cooler but magic would be better. A magic man could just use his murder everything spell.

Science may advance over time but magic has no limit and can do whatever science does but better.

Which is why I find magic so unfulfilling. It's the Mary Sue of exposition.
Hold on now.
Are you saying you don't like magic?
You?
But everything about you just screams "magic" in a loud and flamboyant voice.
I can't imagine our beloved RAKtheUndead having anything to do with science at all.
Certainly not.
Next you'll be telling us you're into robots or something.
Then... Then I just won't know what to think anymore...

I always figured Magic is a science that was more or less stumbled upon by accident with less that complete understanding of it's real nature....like getting into quantum theories
