I am of the opinion that if something is popular, it has to have some sort of quality to it. Now i might not like it, but there's probably a good reason for that. For Bieber i'm not really included in the target audience. So i don't really mind him very much. But then again my personal policy are to not judge things, which are something people in general love to do.

What i DO find irritating however is seeing the massive amount of negativity spewed over anything popular these days. From COD to Twilight to Pop music. Sure you might think it's bland or commercialized or overly accesible etc. But do you really have to ruin it for all those who do enjoy it? You're just being an asshole by hating in public. You might say it's shoved down your throat but conversely you're shoving down your negativity, elitism and suggestions of better stuff down the throat of everyone else. You can barely go to a youtube video these days without finding comments about Justin Biebers penis.

I don't think it will stop, but in the end it probably doesn't hurt them either. They get more publicity so you are just helping them in a way. Like that big campaign to make the "Baby" video have more dislikes than likes. That's basically free promotion for him.
Amen!

1. it isn't linkin park right now i have it on random it is Rammstein.

2. I "hate" bieber in the same way I hate twilight or anime.
Why do some people always change the "e" and the "i" around?
I hope I'm not offending anyone, but seriously why?
Due to the frequency of these mix-ups I don't thing they're just typos.

On topic: I honestly don't care about his music. It just seems so utterly bland to me, just like the rest of the "mainstream" music.
Lol, very pedantic of you. Speaking of off topic things though, very cool avatar brother.

Anyway, I've heard maybe two of Bieber's songs and I didn't like either of them, but honestly I wasn't paying that much attention (it was like over the loud speakers at the mall). I have seen and heard him, and I agree that he is astonishingly effeminate. Maybe it's because this site is about as far as I get into internet culture, but I just haven't noticed his purportedly raving fan base. So I don't really hate him, but it is kind of funny how he's so girly. I have absolutely no reason to think I'll like him, so I choose not to listen.

On the other hand, I am of the opinion that mainstream music is much too focused on glib sexuality and petty relationships. Whether this is the cause of the shallowness of the average teen, or just a symptom, or if they feed each other in some kind of vicious cycle of vapid immaturity, is unclear to me. Similarly, if his music is really as empty as I've heard, I can't say if Bieber (or any pop artist really) causes his die-hard fans to be self-centered and quixotic, or if they just listen to him because they were that way in the first place.

A final disclaimer: People who like popular music are not necessarily "self-centered" or shallow. Someone can have a perfectly nice personality and still like some popular music. I find it unlikely though, that someone could be a well-rounded, responsible individual, and still consider themselves a fan of only "popular" music, assuming they were "into" music in any significant way.

For sure. There's no reason to jump on a bandwagon if all you're going to do is *****. I dislike Bieber's music because it's completely not the kind of music I'd listen to in the first place. Since I don't have to listen to it, why bother complaining? Besides, no one will even remember him in five years; it's not like it's an issue that's here to stay.

I don't mind you fixing my errors but I asked to end in an odd number, ODD NUMBER, you could have at least quoted me down to point 3.

For 6:37 am I am proud I only have one error used twice points for you brain! Who needs sleep anyway?

I have a feeling I am just going to dislike popular music more and more the older I get. I mean so many new pop bands are interchangible to me. I only learn a name when the internet gets mad and makes threads about it.

Plus bieber's music video about the loney girl creeped me out. So I gues I am planning on being the grumpy old man on the end of the street who keeps the toys that go into his yard?

It was never my intention to target you personally. I apologise if I have offended you.
However, I guess that...(sorry, I couldn't resist).
Honestly, I don't care for sleep either!
Why sleep when you can do other, more productive, things like gaming, thinking, walking, being a grammar Nazi, talking, selling yourself on the streets, building a race of cyborgs,...

Things that are popular aren't necessarily popular because they are good, oftentimes they're popular because they are accessible. Anyone can 'understand' Bieber. You don't have to understand music theory, harmony, showmanship, melody, etc to 'get' it. I'm not saying that everyone who likes mainstream entertainment is an idiot (I can certainly understand wanting to just turn off your brain and not have to think too hard about every little thing), but its popular for a reason and that reason is rarely due to talent. Mostly its marketability and accessibility.

The negative reaction is often due to people who feel like their favorite game/artists/movies have been cheated out of much deserved success in favor of the less interesting, more marketable mainstream product.
:O stole the words right out of my mouth.

I don't hate Justin Bieber, neither do I hate the people who hate him. I never understand all this "hate" that people can have. Sure there are things I'm annoyed by (people hating on popular stuff because they're popular being one of them) and there are plenty of things I can't stand, but I don't hate them. I don't know if people are just throwing the word around willy-nilly (yeah, I just used that) or whether they really do hate this kind of stuff, but I can't summon hate for stuff like that. Hate is a very strong emotion and I can't just hate on something just because its popular. And I don't even understand why people would hate it. I mean its not like Bieber or Twilight is causing you to be unable to listen to your metal or read your manga (or what have you).

Come on people, can we save the hate for when it's really needed?

I don't mind Bieber, his music is not to my taste so I don't feel I can judge it.

I mean, it sounds awful, empty, and makes me want to punch babies, but that's how I feel about the whole genre, so maybe it's good baby-punching music.

I don't mind him as a person, but his music is just... euh, terrible. I'd rather listen to Whales humping.
I also dislike him, as a symbol.
He represents that audiences now have incredibly low standards, and legions of fans will worship anything as long as it looks "hawt". Or maybe its just the fact that his particular legion is comrpised of screechy girls.

Why anyone would think Biebs is hawt, I don't know, because to me he looks more like a 10 year old girl rather than a 16 year old boy.

as many others have pointed out, i hate what he represents: the lowest common denominator, the celebration of mediocrity. or at least the celebration of mediocrity if it is presented in an attractive package. although... that still doesn't explain the success of Nickelback >.>
