Actually, your idea is pretty spot-on...
I always wanted another full-out Ivalice game like XII.
Or a sequel to IX, supported by the fact that an executive would approve of it:

Apparantly IX is the favourite FF game of both Hironobu Sakaguchi (Mr Final Fantasy himself), and Nobuo Uematsu, as well as Takeshi Arakawa. The trouble is, while the old-school staff at Square (and Mistwalker Studios too) love IX, it's no way near as popular as VII or X. Which is criminal in itself, but you can at least understand why Squenix don't see it as remake material.
We should start a petition and force people to buy FFIX on PSN. :p

1. Until it is possible to have a decently sized worldmap again and fly and airship around in it, don't even bother.
2. Though no less superficial and unoriginal, people seem to have less of a backlash to a upbeat main hero that weathers through the game like Zidane and Zack then people that do show their negative emotions for a decent part of the game.
3. I'd say FFVI had the right split between technology and a medieval times. Let's see some steampunk again.
4. Give us sidequests beyond just monsters to hunt down.

Combat system of FFXII, graphics of FFXIII (obviously), open world, lots and lots of hunts ande side quests, a really cool way to customize and make weapons, job system of FFV, and lastly a new, original story.

Make one in which the main character isn't named after some sort of weather anomaly?
