Making CoD protagonists interesting.

My thoughts on cod and its protagonists: There soldiers and in recent call of duty's they've been elite forces; they do not need to be complex characters they simply do what they are trained to do and that it react to a situation. They see no problem in killing anyone who is a threat. Sure it would be interesting to fight a non (islam/comniform vs USA) war fighting as eg Burmese soldier or Bosnian muslim or even the "enemy". Treyarch's idea of having a voiced npc is a good one as silent soldiers on the battlefield is a silly notion. Cod is not a realistic game and playing an entire game killing only a few people would not be in the franchises heart and the games are usually take place in big conflicts. Cod will not change and mod into what fans want due to the director and publisher. The fault is EA's other companies for not using their brains and not producing different games eg realistic shooters instead copying cod fighting the same boring wars.

I don't think my character being African American or Caucasian would make any difference to how interesting they were. In fact I've never really noticed the soldier's skin tone of whom you play.

I'm not actually aware how other countries do it, however here in the USA women aren't allowed to hold any combat MOS. At all. About the closest they can get on purpose is being Motor Transport and being ambushed on a convoy, or being an MP and getting attacked.

I doubt that too many other countries use women in combat related jobs either.
The Special Recon Regiment in the UK uses women in operational roles.

Maybe not, but it's not like we're likely to get anything more. I'm trying to focus on things they might actually do. I could picture them making a mission with a modern female soldier as the protagonist or a whole campaign about the 100 infantry. I can't really picture them making a game with good writing and character development.

Female soldiers exit. Female combat soldiers generally don't. And when we're talking about a voiceless pair of hands, the gender isn't particularly important.

Then again, I don't see why they need to be interesting. It's an FPS, the whole point being that you're a faceless soldier in the middle of a war much bigger than you.

If sex is so unimportant to you, then why not do it?

And since when does the title "non-combat soldier" protect you from being attacked?

Never going to happen.

Remember, innovation to Activision is what a cheeseburger is to a lactose intolerant hindu.

But it's not really innovation. It's more like the soy substitute for innovation. Like you know, making a modern warfare game in the first place. Sure EA had already done it with BF2, but Activision didn't know they could.

1. Alex Mason wasn't voiceless. Neither was Soap.
2. Caucasian? Really? Examples, please.
3. How does a random, not-speaking woman improve the situation? How's that any better than a random, not-speaking man?

We're not pulling Samus Aran 20 years after someone has already done it, are we?
He wasn't voiceless until you "Assumed Direct Control".
Then he's as quiet as a beaten housewife.

No, not really.

I can distinctly remember him speaking in the first mission, when he jumped the plane.

Or when you shot... ahem... you know who.

Mason does have frequent lines throughout the game. Not of shakespearean length / scope but he does speak. However, it may be difficult to hear him over the pew pews and 'splosions.

More like strong mute types...

So then he's like Nathan Hale in R1 or Minato Arisato is Persona 3? He speaks one or two words but is otherwise steadfastly and at times bizarrely silent?

Nah, that's Mason speaking at the end of that clip.

I think.
Ah, that is mason.
But I thought we were still on ol' Soap.
