Part of it is the fan service gap, even with Japanese media and their tendency to play to multiple demographics there is still a gap in the quantity of male fan service characters. The second part is a byproduct of the standards of attractiveness for men overlapping with standards of fitness for men. The same isn't always true for women. For instance. One can look at a picture of a male gymnast and a male model and see similarities in their body type. The male model may have more definition, though mucle definition isn't a true sign of fitness, and in some cases men need to be dehydrated in order to show a lot of definition. Put into video game land where most characters are idealized, you either get men with model bodies, or men who look like they need to stop with the steroids. But one can't really compare a female gymnast and a female swimsuit model. Adding idealization into the mix and women who are supposed to be very active end up looking a tad too soft for their assumed level of activity. Pushed to the extreme the counterpoint to male characters that look like body builders are female characters that look as if they have gotten implants put in. Instead of having both male and female characters that look like body builders.

For Japanese anime,manga and games sure. But not all games come from Japan. And even then its a maybe because it depends on the show/book and because there some crossover now days. Its not as common for Shojo to have fanservicey male characters, but there will definitely be male characters designed to be attractive. There just wont be Free! levels of fanservice(like actual ass shots and camera pans). With shonen there can be fanservicy female characters but with some shows the male characters are also bishonen. But on top of that there will be a few odd fanservicy moments with the male charaters. Bleach is a pretty well known example of that trend cuz damn every chracter looks like a model and the main chracter is routinely shirtless.
The question is just how much of Ichigo(and other male characters) shitlessness a result of trying to create some crossover appeal or if its just general shritlessness a la DBZ style battle scenes(with Ichigo at least his character design is fully clothed but then clothing damage happens during a fight).
In my long list of dudes I actually managed to forget about him. I don't even play Persona (yet alone really know what it's about.), but if he were straight I would have my character date him in a heartbeat.sageoftruth said:
