Mind if I join you?
I'll bring lawn chairs and buttered popcorn!
Sure!

We can watch the downfall of humanity from my window!
Mind if I move in next door? We can get some cups on string or something, 3 is a crowd after all.

On topic some people just need to stop, count to 10, and pull their heads out of their asses before they do something stupid and over the top.

Right, the world is going insane at a faster rate than I could have predicted.

Time for another week of stockpiling food in my attic and sitting bolt upright with my rifle in my hand!

Send me a PM when it's all over.
Soo...PM you never?

Even if the guy taking the pictures wasn't the father, and was even actually a paedophile, the kid was riding the trains. Unless that's some new slang for going to the bathroom, I'm seeing it as a victimless situation, people should just screw off.

It's just another instance of desperate and futile attempts to end social injustice ironically pushing us further away from it. Why can't they stop real pedophiles instead of threatening to arrest anyone who is slightly suspicious. I used to want to be a cop because I believe in justice, but this isn't justice. This is insanity.

Why wasn't the kid consulted? The Security guard could've asked the kid who the guy was who was taking pictures of him was, and the kid could've answered with a case-solving "That's daddy!".

Things like this makes my shoes sad.

Well, not really.
I just don't give a damn.

And seeing just how fucked up the world is, why should I?

This reminds me of a funny and (unfortunately) true story. Even though it's second hand, I have no reason to believe my friend would be pulling my leg or exaggerating that badly.

Here's what happened: my friend (we'll call him Mark) was at this big fair one time, waiting for his GF to get back from the toilet. He notices a kid hardly older than 5 wondering on his own and goes over to ask if everything's alright. Now, Mark may seem a little intimidating, being quite big and usually dressed in black, but he's a sweet guy. Not that the child would know.

So Mark asks if the kid's lost and he says "Kinda". Then Mark asks if the kid's been staying put but obviously he hasn't. He refused to tell his last name or to come with Mark to the information desk so they could call the parents over the loudspeaker...thingys. Understandable, the kid was obviously told not to talk to strangers.

So Mark does the next thing that comes to mind: hoists the kid up on his shoulders and asks if he can see his parents in the crowd. Mark is straightforward like that :D
When that didn't help, he lifted the kid even higher, holding him up by the armpits like Simba in Lion King (man I wish I'd been there), and hollers "WHO HAS LOST THEIR SON" or something like that.

Good news: the kid's mother turned up soon after that. Bad news: she came with a security guard, tried to have Mark arrested and implied more than once he was a pedo. Mark's girlfriend got back to see this mess and THAT seemed to convince the guard there was no attempted kidnapping going on. Go figure.

Now, I understand the mother was upset but would a pedo really act like Mark if he found a lost child in a crowd? Idiots.

George Carlin describes it as "Child Worship" and I think he says it pretty well.

[a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment]that would be the Stanford Prison Experiment[/a] By Dr. Zimbardo. Who has done other wacky stuff too. Just an FYI if you go for pretty much any sort of human behavior degree expect to see this video like 10-12 times.
Don't remember the part where anyone got beat up. Think you might be remembering that wrong Z.
Some judgements on the expariment were how the Observer Dr. Zimbardo took part in the events and might have pushed things one way or the other. Which after watching it umpteen times and having actually WORKED in a jail am inclined to believe. Few modern jailors are going to be that nasty to people because it tends to make their jobs a lot harder. It's easier to get someone to do what you want when they like you or at least respect you.
Chinese whispers, that story gets worse and worse over time.

I recall hearing (from a psych student) about the Nazi white coat theory that was supposed to be gruesome, where people will take all sorts of orders from someone in a white lab coat, i.e. authority.
Nothing with Nazi's it was an experiment where the parameters lead people to believe that they were giving deadly shocks to people. (they weren't) The subjects were told 'if you turn the dial to 11 it's a lethal shock' and something like 'we need you to turn the dial as instructed by this official looking guy' they would slowly tell the people to turn the dial up further and further and they'd hear the person being 'shocked' on a loudspeaker. Most people (men more than women I thinks) turned the thing all the way up if instructed by someone in the room with them looking official more than they would by being told over the speaker.
Least that's what I remember about it.

I think that says more about the UK than anywhere else. You can be held on section 44 of the anti-terrorism act and searched for standing around with a camera. You don't even need to actually take a picture. Just stand there for a while, see what happens.

Before I accuse society of going to shit, I just want to know what made the security guard call the police in the first place. Did he catch a pedophile before like this? Is it some new policy instituted by the mall to catch pedophiles? I know this guard made a mistake but I want to know what he was thinking before I say society has fallen into disarray.

You misunderstand me (not your fault since my comment was short), I know about the experiment, I'm saying when people talk about it in real life the story of what happens gets worse and worse... one guy had a fit and the guards kept on beating him up broke his spine blah blah blah, that sort of stuff.

The Nazi white coat theory is a separate story, but the same sort of thing, instead of people acting as guards is was people in Lab Coats acting as Doctors and Scientist's. Apparently the majority of people were more receptive to taking orders to the dudes in white lab coats.

You'd think the entire world was pedophilic.

Whoever the fuck the officer is who drew first blood, he deserves to be disbarred and sued for disturbing the peace.

Is it just me, or is "pedophile" becoming the new "witch?"

I think not being a dumbass douche is above a mall security guard's pay grade.
Considering security work tends to pay around minimum wage (at least around here) I'd say no. :)

Plus, money only makes people *more* stupid.

Crazy + stupid + non-observant + double standards + prejudice - common sense - logic = this story.

Sounds like some fun shit happened.

Well for starters men shouldn't be home with their kids, they should be out making money and killing evil creatures, while their sons are in ninja training camps.
