Right, the world is going insane at a faster rate than I could have predicted.

Time for another week of stockpiling food in my attic and sitting bolt upright with my rifle in my hand!

Send me a PM when it's all over.
Mind if I join you?
I'll bring lawn chairs and buttered popcorn!
Can I come too? This country and planet are driving me insane. I can bring chicken wings and soda.

OT: This is just plain sad. You'd think the guards would have enough sense to ask him what he's doing first before they jump on the "He's a pedophile" train.
Can I come too? I'll bring the Nintendo 64. ^_^

He's only a pedo if seedy music comes on and he starts walking in slow motion.
Hahahahaha, I see what you did there. XD

There are no words in the English language to accurately describe how sad, pathetic, irritating and just plain STUPID this incident and every one like it is. I don't even want to waste my time going any further, as it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference and would only serve to piss me off even MORE.

People are panicky, easily led, poorly informed, igrnorant retards who will believe anything the media tells them, and then a mall cop with an IQ roughly the same as his shoe size goes overboard about someone taking pictures of his own goddamn SON and suddenly the world is a much darker and even more stupid place to live.

Bring on 2012, I hope that ends our pathetic existence on this planet. Maybe the dolphins will do a better job when we're gone. The sad part is, that if anyone survives it will be all the rich, elite assholes that fucked up the world in the first place, and the "New society" will be filled with the same panicky, easily led, poorly informed, ignorant retards, just they way they like it.

Sad. Pathetic. Unnecessary. Embarassing. Retarded. Human.

Now, I understand the mother was upset but would a pedo really act like Mark if he found a lost child in a crowd? Idiots.
Yes, yes they are. Too bad you can't sue someone for merely implying that you're a pedophile, eh? But all it takes is for one idiot to accuse you of it and your life is ruined whether you did it or not. STOP THE PLANET, I WANT TO GET OFF.

I think not being a dumbass douche is above a mall security guard's pay grade.
Considering security work tends to pay around minimum wage (at least around here) I'd say no. :)

Plus, money only makes people *more* stupid.
Your first sentence made my point...

But whatever. It was a joke facts or no.

It's just the slippery slope of "Protect the children!"
When someone eventually starts this "Please think of the children!" bullshit I will say that the line has no only been stepped over, but also defecated on, and eventually painted over.

Also, for everyone else in the UK around the ages of 17-21, have you noticed there were considerably less paedophiles in our day? You never used to hear about them and in the last decade, everyone is a paedophile

I better alert dad and tell him to burn all of our photo albums as he spent virtually all of mine and my brother's childhoods with a camera round his neck.

Security guards get bored. Cops get bored.
Besides that I remember reading about an experiment a little while ago. They took two groups of people and set them up as prisoners and guards. Within days the guards were forcing the prisoners to humiliate themselves and beating them. After the experiment they were shocked at their behavoiur.
The Stamford Prison Experiment. [http://www.prisonexp.org/]

What it really boils down to is the media creating a fear culture. For giggles, read The Sun and look for references to paedophiles, The Daily Mail for reference to illegal immigrants or this choice snippet from the BMP leaflet that fell through my door this morning (before going straight into the cleansing flames reserved for junk mail)

Oppose the dangerous drive - backed by other main parties - to give 80 million low-wage, Muslim Turks the right to swamp Britain
Society has been made to fear everything: and worse, to push that fear onto others.

I facepalmed when I read the OP. But this is all to common occurance. Parent are no longer allowed to film thier children at school sprts carnivals and such. Society has gone pedo crazy. It's quite sad really.
I disagree. These things are not "all too common" at all. The news might have us believe that, but only because the news will report nothing but remarkable and unusual stories. No news source ever sold papers by doing reports on how everything is going fine. As the inventor of the tabloid said '"Dog Bites Man" is not a story. "Man Bites Dog" is a story.' Because news has no interest in things like proportion, you end up with nothing but "Man Bites Dog" stories, creating the impression that these things happen all the time.

Apply that to this story - How many people do you think photograph their kids without any harrassment from security? And how many primary schools do you think do allow parents to film their kids? And how many town halls do fly the Union Jack without wringing their hands over "offending minorities"?

Parents can't discipline their kids without raising police attention, kids aren't allowed to go outside in fear of disappearing, and now this? The founding fathers are turning in their graves for sure.

eh, it's not like he actually got arrested. If they let some random weirdo take pictures of kids in the malls I bet everyone would be up in arms. People expect guards and the like to have 100% perfect and sometimes supernatural judgment.

Here's how it lays out:
Err on the side of caution: Some guy gets harangued by the cops for a half hour.
err on the side of recklessness: some weirdo begins his stalking habits when he is left to his own devices with a camera in a public place.

Yes, those evil evil security gaurds.
Well, I'm not sure how it works in the UK, but in the US, there's no law against taking pictures in public.

Maybe I'm naive, but if I saw an adult taking a photo of a child, I would just assume that the adult is a parent/guardian/relative of the child. I've never done any research on it, but I'm guessing that a very small percentage of people are actually paedophiles, so I'm gonna say that the guard is a dickhead.
