Man builds replica Noah's Ark

[http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4853890.stm] Religious questions aside (although I'm sure someone will hijack this thread eventually), my question for you guys is the same one this dude's wife had: Why is this asshole wasting his money on stupid shit like this and not digging wells in Ethiopia or something? If he wanted to help the world, building a fucking boat is not the way to go about it. And not even a particularly accurate boat at that; if he's trying to show kids that the Ark really existed, is he implying that Noah had access to power tools and welding equipment (notice that his replica includes a steel motherfucking hull)? What did they run on, coal?

Anyway, thoughts?

How can you make a replica of something that has no existing plans or directions in the first place? How can you make an exact replica of a description taken from simple text?

Edit: It may just be because I was originally Jewish that this bugs me, but why have they now claimed that the tale of Noah's Arc is now exclusively for Christian benefit?

As far as I can tell, the Bible gives some dimensions and mentions "gopher wood" (no idea what the hell that is, but whatever). It most definitely does not say that Noah used his wood-fired circular saw to fit the joists or anything.

And this in no way proves the ark ever existed, just that people can create large boats and call them an ark.

Well you can say "Why waste your money on that?" But then you can say that about ANY luxury. Why waste that hard earned money on TV, the internet, games, fashionable clothes, expensive cars and on and on and on. That money could be spent helping all those other unfortunate people elsewhere.

So I don't buy that excuse of "He is wasting his money, it should be put to better cause." Only say that if you spend ALL your extra money helping other people, because you are just as guilty.

Here's an argument for ya. Think of all the trees he killed to make that boat that's just sort of... there. By extension, you could say religion kills trees, but that may be going a bit far (but hey, I'm all for a fun religious debate.) Anyway, he killed so many trees on his journey to recreate what may or may not have existed for the cause of making an organization profit! (Whether or not you like this organization is up to opinion, of course.)
