A 32-year-old man has been charged with the rape, torture and murder of a 15-month-old boy in Townsville last year.

The Pacific Pines man appeared in Southport Magistrates Court this morning after he was arrested by Townsville police at his Gold Coast home yesterday.

The arrest comes after the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was booked two weeks ago in Coomera for drink-driving.

Police alleged the boy was assaulted by his mother's partner between January and April last year before passing away on April 16.

It is understood police from the Child Protection and Investigation Unit have been looking into the incident since April last year.

Information of the offence had not previously been released due to the sensitive nature of the criminal investigation.

It is believed the young boy suffered several severe injuries as a result of the attack and was taken from his Annandale home to Townsville Hospital by paramedics but died a short time later.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said it was a bitter-sweet feeling to make an arrest after 11 months.

"We had intensive investigations to undertake and we didn't make an arrest until such time as that had been finalised," he said.

"It's been a very long road for investigators and the family, so it's good to bring it to an end."

The matter has been adjourned to Townsville Magistrates Court on April 12.

The accused man's family were in court to support him.

I can't say how Tragic this is. i saw this and felt a little sick.

How could a Human do that to someone, this kid's life has been taken from him and for someone to rape a toddler. im just upset that a child's life has been cut short and in that manner.

i really don't know what else to say. no one should die like that.

What do you guys/girls think about this?

I am shocked that someone could do that.
Casey Anthony killed her kid and kids have been killed and that's terrible but a baby, at 15 months, that's just hard to comprehend that someone could do that and it's not even that the baby was just killing, but rape and torture as well. Sick bastard....

That smiling and winking avatar seems to indicate a sort of creepy insincerity. D:

Also I'm curious as to what the discussion value is? Are we actually expecting someone to popping in and saying "I think raping and murdering toddlers is a good thing 8D"?

This is why we have the death penalty.

This is why we must always have the death penalty.

That's tragic, but I am not surprised in the least. It's good that the man responsible has been brought to justice though. Petty crimes are eh, but this kind of shit really can't go unpunished.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is disgusting, but I don't see how doing this to a toddler is somehow worse than doing it to an adult. Or worse than doing it to an animal, since adult rats are generally more intelligent (and less annoying) than one year old children, and we do all sorts of horrible things to them in laboratories.

Don't watch A Serbian Film then. It gets squicky with "Newborn Porn."
IIRC, the director for that film was arrested in Serbia because it was supposed to be real.

OP makes me want to puke

I'm getting the wierdest sense of deja vu, that someone already posted something about this and then I was surprised because I realised it happened here in Australia. Obviously I must be wrong though because the news article is from today.

OT: That's terrible, plain and simple. Not much more I can say about something so despicable, other than that.

This was in Australia. No death penaly here - this guy could be out of jail within his lifetime. Wow, that's a scary thought...

I think that's outrageous, how can they charge a man over the crimes a toddler committed? This toddler needs to face justice for it's crimes, not some poor innocent adult.

Joking aside, I find the lack of details in the article to be rather unprofessional, not once did they even mention what the boy was wearing.
Wow, well played good sir, well played

This is why you have a death penalty. We don't.

This happened in Australia.

Also, it's all alleged, he's innocent as far as I'm concerned. Once he's been convicted I'll come back and comment a little more.

Yes and no, jail shouldn't be a punishment in my eyes. It's not to punish him, it's to protect everyone else and attempt to rehabilitate him.

We're on the internet and 4chan exists so maybe. Not everything has to be a big discussion though, pointing out articles you thought deserve sharing is good.

OT: I sincerely hope he's put in a public jail. When the other inmates find out what he did nature will run its course and all will be well in the world without the need for a death penalty.

We got that beat.

There's a guy over in Holland being charged with the rape of almost a hundred toddlers.

Well yeah, it's a horrible act no matter who the victim is, but there's just something really fucked up and depraved about raping someone whos barely even a year old.

Regardless, glad they caught the guy, dunno how the hell his family is going to support him in this situation.

everything aside, how can you find a toddler sexually attractive? I refuse to find anyone under 16 attractive, I just feel filthy otherwise.

Ah, so that's why I stopped taking holidays up in Queensland.
Sick, disgusting and really depraved. This guy wins the ultimate insult award. Replace 'Said' with 'Done', 'for having listened to it' with 'for having heard about it' and 'Rambling incoherent response' with 'Crazy psychopathic actions':

I, I am...well speechless, I mean I knew bad stuff happens in Australia, but something like this is just horrible and makes me sick.

I hope that man gets a life sentence, and to you people who say we need a death penalty, no, you know why this man doesn't deserve a death penalty, I'm not defending him for his f*cked up actions but it will make his life 100% worse if he gets a life sentence in prison, I mean he will probably get killed within a week, and the guards won't do anything and all if not most of the prisoners will beat him an inch to his and then someone will go over the line and end him due to their nature.

Hopefully the man will plead guilty, then he might have a chance to be rehabilitated, but even if he does get released he probably will still be condemned for the rest of his life by everyone around him...and he will probably be wanted by a lot of people in this country too.

Are you kidding me...some people these days, if I was his family I wouldn't go near him ever and even the people supporting him.
