I know the trailer doesn't say much about the movie (I understand the one shown at comic-con had a few more scenes though) but what did you guys think? What do you think of the creative team behind the movie? Do you think this will be THE big summer movie next year?

I gotta say, I couldn't have asked for a better creative team. Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer wrote the story. Goyer wrote the screenplay. Zack Snyder directing. And the actors are all pretty well-known and talented. It really couldn't be much better than that. Especially Zack Snyder. If there were ever a director that could competently make Superman look super, it'd be Snyder.

As for how much I am anticipating this movie? Let's just say that I honest-to-god fist-pumped and yelped "YES!" in my seat at the theater when I saw this. People behind me laughed, but I don't even care! SUPERMAN!!! :D

I expect great things to come from this series, I do.

I know a lot of people I know despise Superman.

I don't really know much about him besides the obvious, and the only Supes movie I've seen is Superman Returns.

But the trailer looked cool, and it has a good production team behind it, so I think it will do well.

I find that many people who say they "despise" Superman have reasons that are kind of arbitrary or sometimes just factually incorrect. The greatest of which is "He's so cliché." How can he be cliché when he's the original superhero?!

I'm not saying you aren't allowed to dislike Superman, but maybe don't base your dislike on assumptions, hearsay, and falsities.

The trailer looked really really good. But all the fundamental problems of Superman would still potentially be there, ie too powerful, one weakness, predictable use of kryptonite at some point. I'm curious as to who the villain would be.

I think the original superhero was Hercules. Predates him by a little bit.

I think it's because people think he's too overpowered and a generally uninteresting character.

The villain is General Zod, according to the wikipedia page. Or at least he's appearing in the film. And the "problems" with Superman are easily mitigated by good writers, which we have here.

That looks really good. I'm with you, Jack; the design looks good, they have a great team, and frankly it's time that Superman had a new, excellent movie.

But for people who aren't into Superman, all they have is assumptions, hearsay, and falsities!

I do think there are some difficulties with Superman, mainly that he is Superman. He is "as strong as the plot needs him to be", which means that the strength of his powers tends to jump around a lot, and leave audiences confused about why he doesn't just take all his problems and throw them into the sun. That will hopefully be solved with good writing, but it's still a hurdle to overcome.

There's also the point that @Luna brought up about kryptonite: Everyone and their grandma knows that is Superman's weakness, so while watching the movie people start thinking about what the most likely Kyrptonite-Delivery System is. Again, hopefully strong writing will overcome that, but it still leaves him open to accusations of cliche and formula: Superman is inherently "the best superhero", so writers have to work extra-hard to make him relatable and make his problems seem like something that would actually vex him, rather than make the audience wonder why it takes him 2 1/2 hours to punch the bad guy.

My immediate reaction to the trailer is "Oh no, not another angsty Superman."

Seriously, we had that already with Superman Returns, which sucked completely. They may have cast an actor who looked like Christopher Reeve, but that moody, self obsessed deadbeat on the screen was not any Superman I know.

Sure, DC's only successful superhero of the last two decades has been Batman but I really hope that we're not in for another round of angst ridden, self doubting, conflicted Superman. You want that, go watch a Batman movie.

Yes, I'm prejudging base on a very short trailer, but just from that it feels like the early trailers for TDKR - desperately trying to be significant and serious and deep.

Isn't that music from Lord of the Rings or something? Seems ever so familiar.

Kind of hard to judge from such a short, uninformative trailer, but I'm a sucker for any superhero film. Count me in.

It is in fact from the Lord of the Rings. To be exact, the scene where they've exited the Mines of Moria.

Goddamnit I'm good.

That, or I've seen LotR far too many times.

Probably the latter.

(Cheers for telling me though, my minds now at rest!)

Haha no problem. I found it a little hard to pin down too.

I'm still on the fence on whether there would ever be a good Superman movie. I hated all the live-action ones. Even with a crew like that, I'm still not that excited.

That trailer still sucks. The music is entirely out of place, and you see Supes for maybe three seconds, and it's a distance shot.

Why again is Zack Snyder making this a good thing? Couldn't Warner Brothers just let Kevin Smith do it?

Oh right.

I like that clip, but I don't think Kevin Smith would be good as a director for this kind of film (and that clip isn't really good evidence for it because he was hired as the writer for that project). I mean, maybe he could be, but Zack Snyder is pretty good with action scenes. One thing I can't stand about the old Superman movies, and I must stress, THIS IS NOT THEIR FAULT, is the old special effects don't really make Superman look and feel like he's that "super" to me. Maybe back then, when the effects were state-of-the-art, but now... not so much. Zack Snyder has proven with Watchmen, 300, and yes, even Sucker Punch (despite the awful story) that he can do super. That's what this film needs, and I'm pretty sure Nolan knows that.

Also, why are you judging the trailer so harshly when the movie is still a year out? Most of their footage probably isn't even complete, a full trailer would be impossible at this point. That's why it's called a TEASER trailer.

They put out a trailer, I'm going to judge it. It's the same as being skeptical about a game before it comes out. Judging by what I've seen, I'm not impressed or enticed. That is subject to change when I see more. If I seem too harsh, that's your problem, not mine.

I hate him because he's...well, boring. He's immune to bullets, lasers, stabbing, slashing, evil eyes; there's just no threat except whatever the hell lex luthor managed to cook up lately.

At least with batman I knew that a bullet could go wrong and take batty out.

OT: Meh, as I stated, not a fan of superman, but if they give superman the dark knight treatment I MIGHT like it.
