Well guys, I'm sitting here day in day out, I dont want to finish my college work, so what do I find myself doing alot...watching anime, or reading manga. I dont know, I just do this in my free time to waste the hours, although I have a deadline in 3 weeks for all work. So I was going to ask, what anime's do you watch? What's your opinions on today's anime? What manga's do you read? Do you read them? iI not why not? I suppose I just want to find something new and fresh, that maybe, I haven't already seen or heard about so I dont have to be bored s**tless day in day out. Because we all know I'm not going to do that work.

I gotta agree, Studio Ghibli does nice intro anime, Howls Moving Castle was written by some Welsh bird apparently
Spirited Away is brilliant, I can't stress how good these films are

WARNING! IDEALISTIC VIEW AHEAD - MAY OR MAY NOT APPEAL TO YOU

I tend to steer away from the Japanimes and manga (hur hur mangay) myself because something about the ridiculously characterized cast of catgirls Japanese words and generally over-complicated storylines doesn't appeal to me. Now, this isn't because I don't have mental capacity to take this all in- I read Microsoft Paint Adventures ffs- It's just that I think a story doesn't need to have this. Anime, for me, ends up going "Look at me, I'm a deep story with moving characters and an incredible universe," but all it ends up being is something with big eyes, lots of grunting, high voiced anamorphic children doing everything children shouldn't do. I just see it collapsing on itself, becoming so ridiculous it dies. Also, the CUTENESS. What is it with this cuteness?
Also, the fanbase just gets on my nerves(I don't HATE you if you read amines and magmas)- sure, there are masterpiece types out there (yeah yeah I just don't like them) and people are bound to go crazy over them, except that everyone I know who likes aminals/magnets is a bit nuts. Whenever I see people saying things like "Gokujou Seitokai" and "Makai Senki Disgaea" I just... I don't know. It just turns me off. When I catch myself saying things like that I look around to see if I'm Japanese yet.

[/artistic rant]

Always been a fan of Cowboy Bebop and Trigun and well the list could go on. I used to be really into anime but not so much anymore. All the stuff I seem to see has generally crappy characters that never really make me care about them. Plus I have to make sure I see every damn episode or the rest of the series makes no sense.

Edit: ooh forgot this one I really got into Jing the king of bandits for manga.

intro to Gokujou
*very deep voice*-There is only one group with more power then the staff it is the STUDENT COUNCIL
(i think all start watching it)
To OP Watch Trigun it takes place on a planet called Gunsmoke like the T.V show

Full Metal Alchemist I feel is a fantastic example of story, character development and is open to intepritation without being too "weird". Its quite a few episodes long but doesn't really deviate, every story is important. So thats my suggestion. I'd also watch it dubbed, but thats my personal opinion.

Cowboy Bebop, as previously mentioned is a golden oldie but never fails to entertain. Its fewer episodes than FMA and has many "stand-alone" episodes but each one is well written and the characters are deeper than a whore with 20 years experince and a kwik-fit carjack lubed up and standing by.

Try Ubel Blatt or ID to pass some time (they're both fantasy-esque mangas with solid entertaining stories etc etc.

Also Billy Bat, the new manga from the guy that did 20C Boy's, Beezlebub: a fighting/comedy manga centered around the premise of an incredibly strong punk kid who for some reason has to raise the son of Lucifer and Liar Game: a good puzzle/mystery manga.

These are the ones I thought you might not have heard about or read before and will enjoy. Read on.
