Fucking asteroids, comets, and meteors. We don't have a reliable way of defending this planet against one.

I would say nature. Despite our advances in technology we are still powerless against hurricanes, floods ect. It's not just natural disasters though but every single aspect. We need the air to remain reasonably clean to breathe, we need soil to stay healthy to grow food. There are those out there that seem to think that with technology we don't rely on the earth that much anymore but when you really think it through we are screwed if something goes wrong.

As many fine gentlemen have noted before me, I would say...

#1 = Reality/Nature/The Universe. Has. It. All. Since it includes everything else! We're scr*wed. Literally. For all infinity... :|

The most deadly aspects of the aforementioned are probably:
- Man himself (humanity);
- the laws of physics / the physical laws (we still don't know them well enough!);
- ignorance, stupidity, human sins, thinking that we are right;
- believing in our species' superiority while any deadly virus or other biological threat might kill us all off relatively easy;
- other natural disasters...;
- being evil;
- being good;
- not giving a fuck about anything;
- the feeling of doom & giving up;
- not pursuing progress, prosperity and health for all life, including ourselves...;
- religions, governments, politicians, bureaucracy, real conspiracies, aliens, monsters, ghosts, dudes from alternative universes...;
- starvation, poverty, social alienation, global injustice...;
- hypocrisy, double standards, human inequalities...

I think that those mostly sum and wrap everything up...

P.S. Good topic for a thread, well done.

Man's greatest enemy is Man. Because what other animal goes to war against itself, kills others for the sheer pleasure of it, and takes pride in the suffering of others of it's kind?
Chimps and to a lesser degree Baboons. Chimps have been observed eradicating other groups of chimps and even enjoying the prolonged torture of some of them.
Dolphins too have been observed to attack others of their kind for no apparent reason other than the thrill of it.
Argh! Somebody beat me to it! Anyways, i'll agree that man's greatest enemy is itself.

Ottomans. Evil, conniving, plotting ottomans. Licking their chops and staring at your shins. Moving in the dark to position their sharpest corners in the best way to cause as much pain as possible. They are damn clever too. Holding up near their faithful minions coffee table and chair leg in the hopes that the initial impact will send you reeling into a painful collision with one of their mates. At this point I think I may have overdone it, but who reads these things anyway?

Snip...

You can't kill a hurricane.
That sounds like a challenge...
OT: Our own curiosity. We always need an answer, and we can jump to illogical ones just because we want one so badly (see: religion).
