I quite like this as a different take on all the ipad frothing [http://speirs.org/blog/2010/1/29/future-shock.html].

Personally, given that one of the big arguments against it was been 'OMG no Flash', I would quite happily see Flash disappear in favour of an open standard that anyone can support/improve/etc (and I use Flash a fair bit, and overall, enjoy using it).
Also, considering that the vast majority of what I (and presumably many other people) do with a computer these days is consumption of media rather than production, the keyboard issue isn't really that big of a deal.

My opinion on all the ranting and raving is that it stems from the same sort of source as why there's a lot of criticism of the Wii, and that is that people wanted something for them and were disappointed when it appeared that it was not for them after all.

That's funny, I wonder how you wrote that post. What about the millions of people every day write emails and produce other lettered works of non-trivial length?

If this tablet had a input scheme which is as good as the one on the iPhone/iPod Touch, then I would be singing a very different tune today. But right now, it is hampered in terms of real usage by the same terrible keyboard idea as the failed Windows tablets that it copies from.

The iPad (wrote iPod first, thanks Frued!) won't change anything for at least 10 years. There are open-faced computers on the market that haven't taken off and the only reason this will is because of Apple hipsters who are constantly paying through the roof for this stuff. (Srsly, who needs 160GB of music on the go? Get a life you freak!)

There will be a time when this technology will change the way kids grow up and the way we view the world, but it's just like 3D TV and such, it's just not needed now and will be a fad to start with then die out.

People are happy with their laptops/netbooks at the moment and with the iPad lacking a physical keyboard (QWERTY keyboard is not touch-screen, IMHO), Flash and expandable memory, this just seems like the world of tomorrow a day before it's needed.

Err, I could go write the reply again on my iphone if you like, but I did kinda say that it was the majority of what I did, not all of what I did.

An uh, by an input scheme which is as good as the one on the iPhone/Touch, you're talking about the devices which essentially will share the same OS as the iPad and thus have the same input scheme, right?

My reason for not wanting to buy one is that I have no need of it - I'm not going to dress that up into something it isn't though :)

Is the iPad a device with a 3.5" screen? You'll find the effectiveness of input schema change as what you're inputting with increases or decreases drastically in size.

Someone on my twitter feed actually said the iPad's apps would revolutionise flash on the internet. I had to laugh. Apple's iPod Touch XL Won't change anything apart from how Stephen Fry reads his e-books... Sorry, iBooks.
...wait, you mean like the Flash the iPad doesn't support?
The very same. Apparently, instead of web based flash programs, we're all going to be using non-multitasking apps instead.

You can book it right now that it will be the product that kids of this generation grow up with and look back on with affection just like we did with the first video games. Video games changed how we grew up. The iPad will change how kids today grow up
No big fancy why it will or won't answer just simple and straight forward and the answer is

No it fucking won't.

If that offends anyone I am sorry but the guy is delusional.
