I'm no where near as 'hard-core' a comic book fan as people here; the movies and some videos are as far as my love for comic books go.

Having said that, I prefer Marvel.

I honestly love both, but if we ignore Vertigo Comics, I have to choose Marvel over DC. Now I love a good Batman or Superman story, but I just can't get into the universe and continuity of DC, whereas I find the interactions between Marvel characters enjoyable and have for the most part enjoyed all the crisis crossovers in recent years.

I also prefer the Avengers over the JLA (except when Morrison is writing), the JLA is simply a collection of DC's most famous/powerful heroes, where as the Avengers is more of a family and features enjoyable B and C grades heroes as well the beter selling ones.

It?s hard to say to be honest since I like both of them. They both got their pro and cons like with DC, excellent TV shows but their comic history can be confusing (Infinite crisis). Granted however they got more iconic stories (Kingdom come, Dark Knight Return etc)
Marvel seen to have cooler and bigger story arc per year (Civil war, Dark Reign etc) but they had only recently got back into TV show (Avengers Earth Mightiest Heroes).

Both comics got one thing in common and that they both got great superheroes.

(Page 20 revival!, but I like the topic)

I personally only read Marvel, not because I hate DC, it's just Marvel that got me into Super Hero comics in the first place. (reading Civil War)

Every attempt at getting me into Superheroes prior to me reading Marvel comics, involved the more pretentious DC stuff, like Kingdome Come. I just didn't like the style it was presented in, so I have a negative conditioning towards DC.

I read some of Darkest Night, it seems interesting enough though.

DC.
Because I fanboy Green Lantern and Batman, and I only dig Deadpool and Wolverine from the Marvel side.

DC have their Vertigo printing, which has published some of the best stuff out there, DC win.
Asides from that I'm fairly certain that DC still stands for Detective Comics, which is a rather snazzy name.
