Don't get me wrong, I like MW2's multiplayer, but it stops there. As good as the single player 'campaign' was, it can't hold a candle to ME2.

Oh great. A new wave of fanboys. I wager that perhaps Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3 can topple it.

seriously, we're two months into the year and ppl are already calling it GOTY?

wtf?
Why the hell not? We all know of the biggest titles coming out this year, do you really think any of them have a chance against a game that incorporates so many different mechanics as seamlessly as ME2?
1. calm down, dont get all fanboy on me.

2. yes, there is a chance that one of them could unseat ME2. im not going to guess which one because i'm unfortunalty not clervoiant (spelling).

I'd agree, they could have a chance. But assuming that either game is coming out this year might be folly.
Possibly, yeah. But I choose to remain optimistic. I remember hearing somewhere that we are promised Starcraft 2 sometime this year. Especially since it was scheduled for 2009 but they pushed it forward to do it right. Of course that's just what I've heard.

Game of the Year.

Yeah I just called it, I've played ME2 and CoP, and I prefer CoP over ME2.

I have nerdgasms THINKING about my CoP, ME2 is just drooling.
My two big problems with STALKER have always been technical issues and a barren feeling. It is much better than say, Fallout 3, though. But I don't see it winning GOTY. Not well enough known.
Barren is realistic.

And it makes those encounters oh so wonderful.

I've already developed a way to abuse the game.

I'm a grenade salesmen, I sell grenades to people, then I kill them and take back my grenades, and their grenades :)

Get riiich quiiick. :D

(You're correct about hardware issues._

I am completely calm, sorry if the word "hell" threw you off. There is a good amount of decent titles coming out this year, but they all seem to be predictable in terms of gameplay. Especially since many of the bigger titles are sequels. ME2 did a lot of things different from ME1, as well as some things that were different from most games entirely. I just don't see a shooter or action game with gameplay we've seen before beating out ME2 for GOTY.

I think the one big question mark, so to speak, is Alan Wake. Could be something new and innovative, or it could fall flat on its face. I'm also looking forward to the new Tron game since I loved Tron 2.0, but I don't see it being a big contender for GOTY.
it seems like you are contradicting yourself.

ME2 is a sequel, did things different but the same, and since its a sequel, how could it not have been predictable?

i do think its a great game but i still think its way too early. im personally looking forward to AvP and Mafia 2.

some of these games have much bigger fanbases then mass effect.

I'd like to agree with you, but based on what I've observed the GOTY generally goes to one of the big name franchises from the Christmas period of releases, because most gamers have the attention span of a three year old. Incidentally a not dissimilar process can be observed at work with the Oscars, as we'll no doubt be seeing with Avatar.

Actually, looking back on various winners of GOTY, most of the games tend to come out in the summer to early fall. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_the_year
Look at the recent ones. There are some from November and December, but its pretty spread across EXCEPT for the early months of the year. However, I can't remember so many quality games coming out so early in the year as they are now (going by popular opinion: Bayonetta, Mass Effect 2, BioShock 2, Heavy Rain, No More Heroes 2). I think we're just in an uncharacteristic year. Plus, you have to remember how big DLC has gotten over the last few years. Extra content should help keep some of these early releases fresh in people's minds.

I know it doesn't really matter who gets these awards, mind you. It doesn't affect how we enjoy them. But it is good to see those who are deserving get their due recognition (in games, film, music, literature, anything).
