Mass Effect 2. Game of the Year. I'm calling it. [Spoilers will probably abound]

I would agree if it weren't February. ME2 is my favourite game right now so right now yes it is the best game of the year. But unfortunately things like God of War 3 might knock it out of that spot.... But you never know

some of these games have much bigger fanbases then mass effect.

I know it doesn't always work this way, but the size of the fanbase should have ZERO impact when you're judging a game based on quality.

My two big problems with STALKER have always been technical issues and a barren feeling. It is much better than say, Fallout 3, though. But I don't see it winning GOTY. Not well enough known.

I always felt the Barren feeling, added loads more to the over all experience and atmosphere, of a game set in a post nuclear disaster world. As for the bugs, you have my 100% agreement there.

On topic, you do realize that calling a GotY in February is a little bold don't you? I mean as much as ME2 had in the department of Great Gaming experience. Most crappy magazines and review sites just pick the most recent they've played and then come up with very little in the way of justification for their choice. :/

That's right. I'm calling it right now. I finished it a few days ago. Greatest ending ever. I may even say Decade, but it' s too early.

I've only played through once, but it was the greatest time I've spent in a video game ever. There has been no other game that has haunted my every thought until I reached solace after finishing the game. The only bad thing I can think of is the mining. It's slow and painful. Other than that there was no flaw. And so I call it. One of the first games of the year will be the best. Though, the whole 360/PC exclusive thing may hurt it a bit I still say this will get it.

EDIT: Yes I know it's early in the year, I'm stating my confidence in the game. And I'm not saying it'll go unopposed, but if you take out obvious bestsellers I mean Game of the Year as in Best of the year, not best selling of the year.

Better be. 99.9% Perfect.

I love ME2, but I sadly must say I think F:NV will win, just because of the timing. Or Halo: Reach, if that adds some new level of awesome to slaughtering aliens with Keith David's voice.

And we already know what the gameplay will be like for all of those games. Might as well be comparing Mass Effect 2 to:

Bioshock
God of War 2
God of War 2
Final Fantasy X
Halo 3
Battlefield Bad Company
Fable 2
Rock Band 2

And obviously it's better than all of those. I don't know how people can expect the developers of these games to suddenly have a change of heart and say, "you know what? Let's make this sequel completely different than its predecessor!"

Mass Effect 2 is the first sequel I've seen in a LONG time to have as many differences from the original game as it does.

The only possible original/innovative games coming out this year (that I know of) are Heavy Rain and Alan Wake. We'll see how those turn out.

Oh, the irony is killing me. You realise that you just said that those games will obviously be like their predecessors, then immediately stated that Mass Effect 2 was a major improvement on the first? You don't think that, oh, I don't know... those games you listed might also be an improvement on the rest? Shocking, I know, but...
