We've seen short, combat-heavy trailers on these characters. How exactly are you making these assumptions? This franchise is promoted as a "space opera" but no one wants to see character development in a teaser trailer. Trust Bioware to do what they do best: great story (and character) development.

Am I the only person who thought of "the ring" when I read the title? (Samara Morgan)

She looks pretty awesome though, I don't mean physically.

no, DONT! you will jinx us into having to choose between Grunt or Subject Zero!

OT: meh.........seriously, just meh........... I never used Liara since I had more firepower than my enemies, therefor I won, there were no exceptions. But it looks like there is more emphasis on biotic abilities this time around, sure in the first one you had a good selection between tech, combat, and biotic, but lets hope for the sake of party combination's that we get a sniper, medic, or hacker, though I think the assassin would work with the last one.
Superior firepower didn't always win the day on the hardest difficulty in ME1. Tech and biotics were needed. In addition, the two most powerful/broken classes in the game are actually a fully upgraded Adept or Engineer - Liara, Tali, or you (playing as an upgraded Adept or Engineer) could literally walk into any fight, snap your fingers and kill everything in the room, or make them kill themselves.

You already know there is. I mean if you like guys you have Grunt. What do you think the name refers to? It's the noise he makes during the luv scenes. What's more he's allegedly the most advanced romance option in the game going by the leaks. I mean those of us after babes just have the normal array of romance options. Grunt has that whole testicular upgrade system they were demonstrating where you can find and implant new Krogan testicles in him to try and solve his impotence problems, and then once you hook him from doing so increase his "man power" by adding more testicles into his increasing number of slots, and various genetically engineered sacs you find and buy in your adventures.

I mean if your into men as either a girl or a guy, what could possibly be hotter?

Other than that I ALSO thought of "The Ring" when I heard the name Samara. She has psionics/biotics too despite being an Asari. If they work bio-tech/biological weapons into her motif somehow it would be yet another referance. Those of you with even a passing knowlege of the "Ringu" TV series from Japan (not to be confused with the movie series) will know what I'm talking about. I've only seen a couple of badly subbed episodes, but there is a fairly good synopsis on wikipedia for those interested in the series and who might not have been aware of such thing or how the concept eventually got "defined" when they answered a lot of the questions (as silly as some of it was).

I don't think it's possible to judge a character from one minute reveals like this. Bioware has yet to fail me when it comes to compelling characters, I don't expect them to start now.

I prefer Liara.
And they need to add a new sweet turian, or just let Garrus join you, as there's no turian more epic than Garrus.

Adepts are gonna be so kickass in this game. Man I'm glad I have a L60 Adept from the first game to transfer over, even if everything does get reset (which I'm sure it does). Adepts were already ridiculously powerful in the first game, and now biotics can actually kill people!

Are going to be able to kill people?

In ME1 they, next to a fully upgraded Engineer, are the most broken class in the game. Even on the hardest difficulty, you can just walk into any fight, snap your fingers and kill everything in the room.

Are some of you not paying attention? @0:09 you see that we have only seen half of the available characters. And as some others have mentioned these are teaser trailers meant to get you interested in the game, I'm going to hazard a guess that all these characters have more depth then what a 1 minutes teaser can show.

The problem with that reasoning is that even with a 1 minute trailer, many of us could make (if we had the video skills) a teaser trailer of the old squad members that wouldn't give too much away, but show a great deal of what they're about.

All the trailers we've seen so far of the new characters pretty much show the same thing - that they're psychopathic killers that will do anything to get the job done. The only new character we've seen with anything..interesting is the Shephard-obessed Geth, and it isn't even in your party.

There is more in these than I think you are giving credit though. Subject Zero was experimented on as a child. Thane prays for the wicked, but says they are not for her but for himself. Samara is adhering to her own code for serving you. And Tali has her own reasons for following you. Only Grunt so far is showing to be a single sided character.

The other asari in the trailer (the one the Samara is fighting) looks disturbingly much like Liara.
Also, she's not as hawt as Liara is/was, but she does seem to be over 9000% more awesomest.

Personally, I think It'd be better if Bioware dropped the additional cast and kept all the original squard members,

well, they could use these new allies to replace any dead ones. but I think you get my point.
