Mass Effect 2 Platform Dilemma

Hey there guys.

I'm wondering what system I should buy Mass Effect 2 on. PC, or Xbox 360. My biggest issue so far is that Dragon Age had such a huge graphical upgrade on the PC, I decided to buy that version instead.

Does anyone know if Mass Effect 2 will have the same problem? Graphics being poor on the console version? The other side is I have Mass Effect 1 for the 360, so I would not be able to port my game over to the new version. Tho that isn't a big deal. However I would miss out on XBox Achivement Points, oh god noes.

Anyone got thoughts on the issue? Which platform should I preorder for?

If I had a PC good enough, I'd buy the PC version if for no other reason than the possibility of mods and that I prefer PC controls over the 360 controller.

I however do not own a super powerful gaming PC from space, so the 360 it is.

My friends say that it was easier to give orders to your squad in Mass Effect on PC then on an Xbox

Well I wouldn't be too concerned about dragon age origins style framerate chuggage and stuff on the 360 version. The first mass effect was on the 360 and it turned out fine, plus I've heard that porting games to the ps3 is a pain in the ass so a lot of the time that usually would have been spent working out the kinks probably went to that. But if you like PC controls better I wouldn't really see a reason to get it for the xbox unless you have a nice TV/couch area that you want to utilize.

Also what exactly do you mean by "port your game"? do you get to keep your stuff from ME1 or something?

Mass effect 1 on 360 had pretty good graphics, and watching 360 gameplay videos the graphics look...well...amazing. I don't think it matters much. Just get it for whatever platform you enjoy playing more.

...Maybe...

But honestly, I really do love good game mods. I'm almost tempted to buy the PC version Fallout 3 even though I'd have to drive to my Mom's house and use her PC to play it JUST SO I can be able to play the mods people are putting out for it.

It's that much more game for free!

Definitely go for the PC version, it'll look better but even more importantly the controls are just soo much better on PC. Keyboard hotkeys + mouse aiming for the win for sure.

Well, you also have to take into consideration the fact that the PC version (Feb 26th) comes out a month later than the 360 version (Jan 26th).

Aah, thanks for pointing that one out, I didn't realise it.

I still contend that Bioware games should be played on consoles, and it took me five games to get to "consoles" from "X Box".

But hell, it's just personal opinion. Just like me thinking if graphics mean that much to you, there's something wrong with your priorities.

I played ME1 on the PC, so my choice is clear.
In your case however, I would get the 360 one, just for the savegame porting functionality.
If you're planning on playing ME1 a few more times however, I would just get both on PC (ME1 is like $10 now).

In what region are you? Because in the US and Europe they are day and date.

Yeah, this little factoid has been causing me to tear my hair out. At least it means I'll be able to get stuff done until the end of February, before ME2 sucks all remaining life out of my body.

It sounds to me that you prefer to play on your PC. Ultimately, graphics matter little to the enjoyment derived from the countless other small details between the platforms. If you prefer the control grid, prefer to stay hooked up with Skype or Steam or whatever, prefer to quit to desktop rather then get out of the couch, well - get the PC version. All the snazzy minor graphics that I haven't heard of won't make as big a difference.

Seriously, where are you? Because the 360 and PC versions are coming out on the same day in North America, Europe & Australia.

That is because they actually improved the squad system in the PC version after the console version had been released. There is no reason to assume that ordering your team mates around will be more difficult in the console version of Mass Effect 2.

Not when you are driving the cars in the game, and i played both the Xbox 360 and the PC version of the first Mass Effect so i know.

Also note that if you already bought the first Mass Effect that you have to buy the sequel on the same platform as the one you bought the first game for if you want to port your saved game data to the sequel.
Yeah, I can get ME1 for $10, so i'll just buy it, do a fast playthrough making similar choices (mix of paragon and renegade, I call myself the "*rude*" class)
