All of my people lived, it was awesome cant wait for Mass Effect 3...

But for me.. *SPOILER*************************************************This is a warning >_<
Get ALL loyal compainions (its worth it trust me)
get all ship upgrades... (med bay dont count)
Sent Legion for teh Security vents
Mordin for to guide back to the normandy
Jack or uuuuh the other good whatever to sheild you from those bugs
Garrus for second team leader
Take Garrus and Grunt for the final battle

*End of spoiler************************************************************

In the end it is a great game, just needs better DLC...

Hope that helps ya and tell me if I missed anything XD
As was stated earlier, there's multiple choices for who to send into the vents, who to lead fire teams, and who to put up the barrier. And why in blazes does everyone take Garrus into the final battle, he's not that impressive against Collectors and the final boss!
Actually I cant remember who I have taken, it was Grunt and mabey Jacob or Maranda...yeah probly Maranda

You really can't go wrong with Miranda; I can't think of a single mission you can take her to where she doesn't contribute something. She can destroy anything's defenses, increases everybody's health and damage output, and she can even one-shot husks with Slam. Unless you have a specific need for a person, go with Miranda.

Maybe it has something to do with the class you all are playing; as an Engineer, all I can do against the barriers of the Collectors (especially Harbinger) are sic my drone on them and then shoot spitballs at 'em. Is this thread full of Sentinels and no one opted to inform me?

Ah, I never had that problem; Like I said, I sent poor Mordin back so that he didn't get caught in the crossfire, and everyone and their brother on the team was loyal, so that issue never came up. This thread caught my attention because I had just beaten the game an hour ago (at the time of posting) and I got out with no casualties.

I play as Vanguard Because the Class name sounded cool

Vanguards, Soldiers, and Infiltrators seem to be the most popular classes. Biotic Charge is more fun than should be legally permissible. I can definitely see the appeal of each of them, but Engineer all the way for me. There's really just something awesome about removing shields or disabling weapons with a wave of my hand.

What?! Are you shitting me? I spend at least an hour and a half looking for the resources to buy this last upgrade and I did it for nothing? Damn you, Bioware! *shakes angry fist*

This is good advice. To bad she's totally unlikable :/

I found it very difficult to regain Jack's trust...I basically did everything in my power to do so and I still didn't have it.
Do her loyalty mission, and take her side if you don't have enough paragon/renegade to pick one of those choices.

take Grunt and Thane in to fight the final boss.
Depending on difficulty and how many crew member lost, I wouldn't recommend this. The rest of the crew (besides the ones Shepard is taking for final boss) has to fight off the collectors to buy Shepard some time.

More surviving crew, better the chance. and Grunt and Thane give best chance of fighting off Collectors.

I took Miranda and Jack with me to fight off final boss on Insanity, as I'm told they're not great defending the line

EDIT: I'm only saying this because OP seems to have lost handful of Crews

Early on in the game, you get an email from the ship doctor telling you that the scars on your face are linked directly to your emotional and mental outlook. If you go Paragon, your face heals but if you go Renegade, your face scars worse and your eyes go all red. The med bay upgrade is just the immediate way to get rid of the scars regardless of your Paragon/Renegade status.

The reason that you lost Jack, Thane, and Tali was because you didn't upgrade the armor plating (get the option to do so from talking to Jacob), the shields (talk to Tali), and the forward gun (talk to Garrus). Unless you have a save from before going through the Relay, you're just going to have to deal with their losses.

As to Fr]anc[is' advice, he's mostly on the money. Who you leave behind to cover the back entrance really doesn't matter, take whomever you like. Allies that can damage barriers and armor are a boon, though. I usually send Mordin back with the saved Normandy crew and take Grunt and Thane in to fight the final boss.
Well that's not completely true. There's a hidden equation called "hold the line" were every character has a chance of survival score. The lowest being held by mordin and tali. The highest being grunt and garrus. How it works is all th scores are added up and if they don't reach a certain benchmark th one with the weakest score dies. So if you send grunt back to do the escort then you take him out of the equation and this is why many people find that mordin has died at the end..... Coz he likes to stick his head out to look at some fungus I suppose.

It astonishes me that y'all are surprised people choose Garrus and Tali for the final mission. Sure, they're not as handy against the collectors, but they're the favorite characters for a lot of people, including myself. If they were real, I'd consider them both close friends. Of course I'm going to take my friends into the final fight with me, especially since even on the hardest difficulty, the final battle isn't all that hard, even with ill-suited squad mates.

Anyway, on my first run, I did everything right except that I sent Grunt back with the crew, because I thought they'd need an escort who'd be able to deal with large threats on his or her own. Grunt obviously fit this description. I took Garrus and Mordin with me to the final fight. That, unfortunately, meant that at the final segment, my crew was lacking one of their strongest assets.

Because of that mistake, Tali was lying dead somewhere in the collector base when the bomb went off >_<

Needless to say, I subsequently started another play-though.

Just get everyone loyal and buy all of the ship upgrades. The game practically gives you a series of huge, exaggerated winks as to what you need to do. And then, when deciding team leaders and such, the game again gives you significant hints. You just gotta know what to look for.

It should be noted, Miranda has plot armor the entire way through if she's loyal. So bring her along if you want to minimize the death-toll.

BECAUSE HE'S GARRUS GODDAMN VAKARIAN THAT'S FUCKING WHY.

Anyways, I'd try 'n offer advice so as to help, but others have given adequate information regarding the party you should be using already, so yeah. Good luck with that.

Here, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Some of the things are obvious in hindsight, but none are so apparent when first encountered. Sending Grunt into the ventilation shaft, for instance, probably sounds like a dumb idea to anyone.

On the other hand, there are other things that seem like they should make sense, but don't because the information that disproves it is hard to find. I'll give you an example. Going into the mission, I considered using Zaeed as one of the fire team leaders. Given the fact that he freaking founded the Blue Suns and has had ages of time working in fire teams with other peeps, I figured he'd fit. Turns out, he's not appropriate for any job save as an escort back to the Normandy, which anyone can do. Apparently, one of his stories you can listen to of his down in the hold (which I soon forgot to listen to after the Collector Ship or so) mentions how he really doesn't give a rat's ass about the people he used to go shoot others with. Without that vital piece of data, he looks like a great candidate, but in fact, he's not. If I hadn't accidentally consulted a guide beforehand, he would have been shot dead.
