DOUBLE EDIT:

SO... now that the game is out... what do we think?

Personally... I say yes. It's perfect in almost every concievable way.

EDIT:

Having just seen the new launch trailer and having the biggest nerdgasm of my life, I'm now even more excited for this game:

Only a few weeks to go until the release of what I am hoping (and confident will be) will be the defining game of our generation.

Edit: The above sentence seems to be getting people riled up, don't take it too seriously, it is a hopeful wish, not a dogmatic statement.

This is a thread for your hopes and thoughts about ME2.

I personally am utterly psyched about ME2, and am hoping for:

Tighter shooting mechanics (I think this has been implemented),

The ability to move a little faster instead of holding 'a' just to get a placebo view change

Choices that are not 'good' or 'bad', but morally grey in a Dragon Age way.

ME1 spoiler:
to see what became of the Rachni Queen if you released her.. I'm guessing they will unite with us against the Reapers

Are the Escapists feeling psyched about it?

Will it be a COD, Fallout and Halo beater?

What improvements would you like to see over the original?

What were your favorite moments from ME1 and do you think they can top them?

Any other thoughts you have about ME2, feel free to post them here, anything goes.

I'm ashamed to say that I never even played the first one.
I was either going to get ME1 or Assassins Creed for Christmas 07, and I went with the Creed.

I highly, highly recommend you buy Mass Effect and give it a try, it's dirt cheap most places and one of the hugest, most fascinating universes ever created in the medium.

It had a few flaws but was mostly pure awesome.

Just don't bother with it if you don't like talky bits...

Mass Effect 2, eh? Well, whole turn for "darker and edgier" storyline kinda bothers me. Especially near absence of normal, mentally stable teammates. Moral ambiguity is fine - i just hope they will not shoehorn us into outright Renegade choices.

But i think it will be a good game nontheless.

i loved the first. the fact that its on two discs can only mean it's wonderfully full. counting down the days. and i actually believe yes, it will trump halo, fallout and (maybe) cod mw2.

I think everything will be improved. And I think this will be one of the few games I dare say are "Perfect". I honestly can't wait for the improvements on the Engineer. And Thane looks badass

And it comes out the day before my Birthday.

I loved Mass Effect, so I'm hoping that Mass Effect 2 will be freakin' amazing. So yes, I'm pretty psyched, I've had it preordered for a while now. I just hope my computer can run it >_<.

I don't have a favorite moment of ME1, I found the back stories and information to be my favorite part of it all.

I'm hoping for an actual sprint button as well, and more planets to explore. Possibly more seamless biotic usage and firing weapons. Or maybe that is just something I need to work on :p

Meh, I've never played the first one so I have no clue on the bench mark. I guess I'll give it a whirl. I doubt it'll beat MW2 but I've heard only good news so far.

Are the Escapists feeling psyched about it?
No moreso than any other Bioware release over the years; which is to say 'a bit more than most otehr game releases'

Will it be a COD, Fallout and Halo beater?
In what respect? Sales? Quality? Amount of fried consoles?

What improvements would you like to see over the original?
More biotic and tech powers.

What were your favorite moments from ME1 and do you think they can top them?
The Normandy. And yes, from what I've heard they can.

I'm going to get it, I'm just not sure when.
Bioshock 2 is on the top of my games to buy list, and seeing asthough I got the collectors edition, it's going to set me back about $150.

Hey, I LOVED Mass Effect, but I doubt it is the defining game of our generation. Somehow, I see the long awaited TES V being it instead.

In quality. I doubt it will sell more than MW2, but what I'm wondering is if people are expecting it to be the closest thing we've gotten so far to an almost perfect, generation defining game that does many, many things and all of them well.

I'm hoping for some more difficult choices, like those in Dragon Age: Origins. Most of the choices in Mass Effect were very easy for me. I did not even need to think about them. However in Dragon Age: Origins many choices were far more difficult for me to consider as there was no clear distinction between the "good" and "bad" choice. Actually having to put considerable thought into my decisions was nice.

I doubt it will be a generation defining game. There is still plenty of room for error in this game. And if they haven't changed some of the worst parts of Mass Effect (For example, the god damn planetary exploration) then it will be hard for me to even call it a good game. To be honest, Mass Effect had a glaring number of flaws. I'm not even sure if I can call it a good game now.

No. A Bioware game will never be a defining game of any generation.
They get the story and charaters right, but completely fuck up the combat and exploration.
I thought the combat in Dragon Age: Origins was superb, and the combat in Mass Effect was tolerable. But I will agree with you on Bioware having poor exploration in their games. Dragon Age: Origins feels very linear and constraining and times and there isn't much to do outside of the main quest areas. But it wasn't as bad as the exploration in Mass Effect, which was truly abysmal. The most boring thing I have ever done in a video game was driving around those barren wastelands for hours to complete every side quest i preperation for Mass Effect 2. It was truly mind numbing.

I thought the same when I did that, but then when I heard of this "save file importing" I then though that-

Bioware is going to fuck with our expectations, and make the Rachni turn on you, but in the end I still think this would work out because they would have to cure the Krogan of the genophage - and yes, I am a Krogan sympathizer.

As for my general expectations of Mass Effect 2, I think it is going to be excellent and an improvement in every way. I also noticed that Bioware's attention to fan feedback is beyond what I expected and I now wouldn't be surprised if in ME2 there is suddenly a way for you to have a romantic relationship with Tali, and you can go back to the flotilla to have sex with her or something.

The two things I am most excited about:

1. A new and easily manageable inventory system (God damn the first one is the absolute worst one I've ever seen, even Resident Evil 4's attache case wasn't as tedious as this)

2. No more mako! (and that's GOOD too, because I hate how we have all these levitating and flying ships, and we're stuck with that lousy, bouncy, APC thing.)

I also hope we don't have any more "mining" to do. I don't give a shit about Ore bioware, I'm a spectre, not a miner!
