Only a few weeks to go until the release of what I am hoping (and confident will be) will be the defining game of our generation.

...

Will it be a COD, Fallout and Halo beater?
I'm totally psyched, but I think "defining game of our generation" is a bit strong. The day and entire gaming generation is defined by only one game is the day I die a little on the inside.

As for it beating those other game, I doubt it. First of all, RPG's aren't really in competition at all with FPS's, and Fallout is also a different kind of RPG. Much heavier on the role-playing and less on story, so it also has a slightly different audience.

Also, why does it matter? If you like Mass Effect then play Mass Effect. I don't see the relevance of the success of other games.
I think certain games do define generations, in that they have long lasting acclaim with gamers.

For example, Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 would be, in my opinion, defining games of the 64-bit generation, with A Link to the Past and Sonic the Hedgehog for the 16-bit gen.

And I don't think we have had that game yet in the current gen. Maybe COD4, maybe Bioshock... who knows. Time will tell what will stay special in gamers' hearts.

I will play the game. I suspect it won't be the "game of my generation" as that title goes to either Mario or Doom seeing as they brought video gaming back from the brink of death and/or created entirely new ways of playing and demonstrated the potential of the medium to the world.

I didn't say that there weren't games that defined the generations, I just said that the day one game defines a generation, I would have a problem.

All I am saying is that if only one game defines the generation, it means it was a pretty lame generation.

For any generation, there are many "defining games." In the 4th generation (aka 16 bit) we had Mortal Combat, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong country. In the 5th generation, we had Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, and StarFox 64, not to mention so many others.

i suspect it will be good...but generation defining i really don't think so. i enjoyed the 1st and this one sounds like there making all the improvements but it does not sound like its gonna innovative sounds like there just going to keep in the same stream.

Also for me a game that define a generation would have to be a completely new style of game that everyone can enjoy, or something that is done to a point that it can outlast newer games from its genre and that would have to be WoW, no i don't play...anymore but even though its lost the fun for me how ever many million say otherwise

I'm ashamed to say that I never even played the first one.
I was either going to get ME1 or Assassins Creed for Christmas 07, and I went with the Creed.
you did well, Creed Ftw

Never played Mass Attack, so I can't say. Then again, it also begs, which generation are we talking here, the teenagers or the twenty-somethings? Has there been appropriate transition yet?

It will destroy everything, and it will be the game of the decade (even this early)

I will probably attempt to have its children. (Me being male is the most apparent flaw in that plan, but by god I'll try.)

No I do not think it will be a CoD or Halo beater as they are in a different genre although it might be Fallout 3 since they are in the same genre.

OT: I'd like the graphics to load right away instead of phasing in pullover style which was the most annoying thing from the first game also more varied weapon mods as when you got to a high level they all started to become redundant and you just picked the one with the biggest number at the end.

Other than those 2 any other improvement would just be gravy.

ME 2 is going to be painfully mediocre, and will only appeal to hardcore fans of the first game, but just barely. Sorry, the truth hurts.

Of our generation? Nah; this coming from a person that played it over 10 times.
GotY 2010? If they did deliver what they promised I think it will be a top contender.

I hated the first one and I doubt I will like the secound one any more than I did the first. So no, in my opinion I hope it isn't the game of the generation.

I highly, highly recommend you buy Mass Effect and give it a try, it's dirt cheap most places and one of the hugest, most fascinating universes ever created in the medium.

It had a few flaws but was mostly pure awesome.

Just don't bother with it if you don't like talky bits...
I have to agree. I had no huge expectations when I received this game from Microsoft, but once I started playing I was hooked. An amazing universe filled with tons of quests, an intense storyline and plenty of customizable options.

Oh, and did I mention it has one of the most evil antagonists ever?

I've even started replaying the game to freshen up the storyline of the first one so that I'm prepared when EA sends me Mass Effect 2 in a few weeks.

I have played Mass Effect because I really like RPG's, but I thought Mass Effect was so unimmersive and just plain boring.

They've already announced that they're going to be fixing the planetary exploration, and, to be honest, as overrated as it is, Halo is already the defining game of the generation, being the most well-known one. If you ask any random person if they know what Halo is, they'll say yes, unless they live under a rock.

Now, the "best game of our generation"? I wouldn't be surprised. Mass Effect 1, despite its flaws, currently stands as my favorite, and ME2 looks to beat it.

I wish it would be.

But its probably going to be MW2.

Its just another FPS that lots of people keep talking about with "realistich back grounds" AkA Brown and offers little new to gaming, the back bone of gaming this generation.

Although its probably going to be the RPG of a generation.

Note: I played and Inflitrator in the first game but Im playing an Engeineer in this.

Im going to call my moving turret steve :D
