Comparing Mass Effect to Dragon Age, ey? Mass Effect looks far better then Dragon Age in any case, so it's understandable if the textures require more space. Few other quality comparisons could be a major difference too.

And why on Earth would BioWare need two DVDs - that's over nine gigabytes of capacity - for one single game? "Because you cannot fit this much awesomeness on one disc," Priestly said.
It's like the end of CD's being good storage for DATA and games all over again.

Not reading 6 pages of replies to see if this was said anywhere, but...

Keep in mind that the Xbox 360 uses dual-layer DVD's. That's about 8 GBs. Now double that.

Assuming they actually can fill both discs to their limit, that's roughly a 16 GB Xbox 360 game.

This better knock my socks off in the most metal way possible.

I hope this isn't all pre rendered cutscenes and commentary and whatnot.

Yes, I know I should expect such from an RPG, but really, that's what turned me off from 90% of Final Fantasy games.

Oh Gods, I think I've just had a crisis.
Someobody point me to a UK e-tailer that has the CE for Pre-order!

[Edit: Oh Lord, Collector armour and weapon? Okay, I came.]
GAME is the only UK Retailer thats doing it. Though £40 for the PC CE aint bad at all.

This is exciting news how?

Games are naturally getting bigger and due to the lack of a blu-ray drive in the 360 they have to use DVD's which have a lot less space on them. If this game was on PS3 as well or if the 360 had a blu-ray drive this would be on one disk without a doubt.
PS3 Fanboy detected.
Just curious, why does this make him a PS3 fanboy? It's true - with capabilities of holding up to 25 gigs of info, a blu ray can easily hold the game.

If you've read some of my other posts on this or other forums, you might label be a PS3 or nintendo fanboy - really, I just loathe the 360.
I'd probably label you a PS3 fanboy since you've made the exact same argument in three of the four posts you have made in the span of the previous five posts. The fact is that there's no real reason to even bring the PS3 into the argument on a 360 game, especially with the Escapist's now console wars policy (at your 922nd post, you should already know that).

As one person has already mentioned, the copy protection scheme limits the usable space to about 6.8GB on 360, not 9+ as some are touting.

More mystifying, though, is the number of people in here predicting a longer game than Dragon Age, simply because of the ostensibly larger amount of data. Has anyone even compared ME1 with DA? The gap between asset quality is extreme. BioWare has given no indication that ME2 will be anywhere near as long as DA; the need for a second disc will almost certainly be because of the texture/audio quality, and not because it's some 100+ hour game.

Two DVD's, that IS a lot of data! I've got a PS3, so I really shouldn't be interested in this, but I am! It looks like a genuinely good game, I'll have to play it round a friends house!

Awesome!

I'm all for anything that gives me more (MOAR! RAWR!) of a beautiful thing. More locations, more characters, more missions. Hell yes. Methinks I am going to love this game.
