Guys, you are so elitist. Don't you want more people to enjoy the game?

I'm not running round in circles flapping my hands just yet, but there's a definite "Hmmm" going on in my head here.

I'll reserve judgement until I play it. But I really do hope there's no sacrificing of what makes the Mass Effect series a great set of games just so multiplayer etc can be tacked on to compete with Call of sodding Duty. There's the Battlefield franchise to do that. Mass Effect is a single player shooter/RPG hybrid. I don't WANT to play it with my friends - how would that even work? Toss a coin to see who gets Shepard and which poor chump has to play Jacob? Or just have twenty Shepard clones running round a map (Cerberus must've been busy)?

Mass Effect has already garnered a huge following. Chances are if it's the sort of thing you're interested in, you're already buying and playing it. If the previous two releases haven't tempted you, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how starting with the last game in the series because of 'broader appeal' is going to make you buy ME3... If for no other reason than you'd be missing out on a huge amount of backstory. Yes, I know the PS3 version of 2 had the comic to bring gamers up to speed, but it's not the same as actually playing the previous game(s), is it?

Wow. You people sure are quick to lose your shit.

I understand the concern, to a point. I'm not exactly pleased about it either. But flipping out like a pack of seven-year-olds over one comment is a bit extreme.

Besides, this is a comment made by a publisher to investors. Of course he's going to say, "It's going to sell a lot".

This is why I never admit that I play video games. People might think I'm one of you lot.

First of all, no.
Secondly, that doesn't make us elitist.

What you seem to be forgetting is that certain things are meant for a smaller audience. That allows them to focus on specific issues that are of particular interest to that sub-group. It also stops the homogenization of culture based on the wishes of the perceived majority, which IS elitism.

If you wish to produce a mass market Mass Effect, then I've no problem with that; but remembering your roots, and your core fans, is the only way you are going to retain some sort of artistic expression. We've already seen how the mass market cannot cope with anything more than constant platitudes to it's attention, and Zynga does that.

The rage that's being expressed is not one of elitism; standing above the proles saying that "You will never appreciate the game on as many levels as I do."

It's more about "Please God, don't let them ruin another one of the things that I found something beautiful in."

But, it's EA, we already know that ME3 will be written to appeal to everyone except it's core audience. Why build up a franchise based on well-written material when recycled crap can be sold wholesale?

It's a sequel.

It's the THIRD sequel in a series with a big, long, continuous story. Nobody's buying it that hasn't played the other games. There is no "larger market opportunity" to speak of with this IP, its audience is as big as it's ever going to get. I have absolutely no idea what EA could mean by this other than just proving that their execs are frothing, gibbering morons--whether they're tampering with the game or not. Whatever they do, their logic fails to impress me.

Ah yes, this thread has plenty of angry fans that base their opinion on absolutely nothing.
EA says these things all the time and most of the time it does result in the same thing, complete disappointment.
They don't say these things 'all' the time, and it doesn't always result in the same thing. Await the previews and trailers before you go storming EA head-office with torches and pitchforks.

Your right, they shouldn't go completely bonkers JUST yet.

But we heard the same things about DA2, and look what happened, so...
What I saw was tons of people that enjoyed DA2, thousands of positive reviews and a few hundred DA fans that were upset that the game did not cater to their every whim.

To be fair, I read a lot of reviews which highlighted some of the issues many players seem to have DA2. Just, they weren't as harsh about it.

This is make-or-break for Bioware IMO. If ME3 is just more Gears of Mass Effect, that'll probably be the last Bioware game I ever buy.
My thoughts exactly. I used to love BioWare, they were my favourite developer followed closely by Valve, but they've proven over the past couple of years they have no integrity anymore.
