Ok, so I remember everyone, including myself, slating Mass Effect 2's game cover for being... for a lack of a better word, crap, especially compared to Mass Effect 1's. So here's the question, Escapist community, is the (current) Mass Effect 3 game cover an improvement or a further disappointment from Bioware's graphic department?

I really don't care one way or another. To me, criticizing a cover of all things is just silly and pointless. When Yahtzee complained about the cover for Asylum he remarked that it was "the petiest gripe I've even indulged."

Here it is to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Still not as good as the first Mass Effect, but better than Mass Effect 2.

What? Mass Effect 1's cover system was the worst I've ever experienced. Crouch and hump the wall for 10 seconds before the game finally decides to auto-stick you to it...

From what it looks like so far Mass Effect 3 is going to adapt a lot of the stuff from Gears of War 3. Which means cover is a lot smoother and you're bouncing and rolling from cover to cover instead of sitting in one place like ME2. Which is a good thing in my book, but if you were hoping for a return to ME 1, nope.
OP is talking about cover art, not cover systems.

at OP: I don't like the cover art, nor did I like ME2's cover art, ME1's was the best, execpt the rear, which made the game look startlingly generic. So, no, not improvement, lateral move from ME2's art

That is a pretty petty point... Also don't forget the covers often change in different regions due to the demographic there! The biggest differences in a cover I can think of are the final fantasy games! The EU games all have awesome but incredibly simple covers, plain white with just the logo!

I tried looking the cover up to see what you mean, but just found loads of different ones.. They all looked pretty generic though! (Apart from the one with Sheppard sillouetted, that was pretty good!)

Edit: Looks like I was looking at people speculations! (Damn some people are good at photoshop, and appear to have no lives! :p)
Looks like this one is the same all out! Dunno, incomparison I like it more than the other 2... Reminds me of all the other game covers at the moment! It could be added to that infamous mash-up image that was going round in sept/oct time!

Looks bland to me, but it doesn't matter. Short of having a sticker that says "Made by Hitler," I can't imagine a cover impacting my purchase.

You might want to change that to "cover art". People are going to think you are talking about the gameplay cover system.

Anyway...

ME1's cover was poorly designed, mediocre at best. Overly crowded. Looked like the result of a graphic design student's first photoshop assignment.

ME2's cover was, yeah...crap. Ohh look, people with guns. Boring and generic with bad composition to boot.

ME3's cover is at least a little better composed, but is still crap. Ohh look, a soldier guy.

Luckily, I wont have to look at it. My copy of ME3 is going to look like this:

I thought this was talking about the cover system. Meh, ME3 has the worst cover of the 3, what, is Shepherd standing in space, or is he in a spaceship, what? The cover makes no sense to me.

does it even matter at this point. mass effect is a well established franchise, they could have a picture of a goat on the box and the people who want to buy mass effect will still buy mass effect 3

The "Made by Hitler" logo is in the bottom right hand corner.

I like to imagine that any moment, the camera is going to pull away and reveal that Shepherd is walking on a treadmill in front of a wall poster.

That cover isn't great but it's a massive improvement over the last one. It's still rather shocking for me when I think back to how tasteless and trite the last cover was. Not that I mean to say I care all that much about cover art.

Too crowded. It's like they wanted to fit every single thing on there. Default Shepard, Garrus, Ashley, Saren, Vigil, bunch o' Geth, Normandy, Sovereign, random ships, two planets. Too much.

Plus, the composition is bad. Rather than looking like one image, it looks like the photoshoped bastard-child of about ten different images.

The best visual designs are simple and striking with a clear focal point. ME1's cover is the exact opposite.

It's generic but works...

Just getting tired of the "soldier marching towards you" type of covers. :p

Probably my least favorite of all three games. Not particulalry eye-catching and it's rather boring. Shepard doesn't even look active, he's just standing there.

Could've at least added some effects like they had on the first cover.

well you obviously knwo what your talking about...

Ive seen two (after a google search)

the one posted here...I guess its better..I like the space background..but still just feels like "heres shepard....grrrrr" kind of like ME2 (heres shepard with his rifle..grrr)

the other one I like better assumign its legit (its shepard but in the distance amoung rubble/ruins) it looks more asthetically pleasing to me..but them it really feels like "Mass effect: modern warefare 3" which..I cant say I like

of coarse at this poin its really hard to tell which ones are legit
