She is slipping towards the angry end of the 'angry-sexy scale' and her face look a bit weird. Other than that, that's pretty sweet.

... you know, it was kind of bugging me, who she reminded me of. And I watched a bloody Doctor Who marathon today.

Anyway. Not a bad choice in my opinion. Yeah, she looks a bit on the young side, but there are people who look far above or below their age. I'll be happy seeing her on the collector's tin and promotional material, which is all I ever cared about in this, I'll be sticking with how my FemShep's looked since the first game.

And if anyone needs a refresher on Shepard's age- depending on your opinion of what dying then coming back to life does to your age, it's 29 (ME1) or 31 (as of ME2).

At least it's not the blonde. But yeah, too girly. I loved the original FemShep because she didn't look like she's just about to apply for college for the first time after just getting out of high school. But I suppose that was too much for Bioware...

I always assumed Sheperd to be somewhere around 25 or thereabouts considering. Is there really that much difference in the appearance of a 22 year old and a 25 year old?
She's actually 29 years old [http://twitter.com/#!/truffle/status/27196273794] during Mass Effect 1 (the game is set in 2183), and so she would be 31 in ME2. But it has been said quite a few times (in the games and books) that humans can live to about 150, and that adults look younger for longer than they do now.
Sorry for geeking out...

OT: Hmmm, she seems to have a 'hurr hurr derp!' look in this picture, I'm liking the actual design of her though! (red hair ftw!)

YEEEEAAAH! Redhead for the win, ftw!

The default FemShep isn't so far off from my custom one, now, it seems. Although, mine is still 10x hotter. Though the default one now certainly has it's charms (in a very "I'm a pissed off redhead military girl, and your life is forfeit.. also I'm fucking saving the galaxy!" sense of the word)..

What has been perplexing me now for a while is that when they choose how to represent the male Shephard, they simply went with using Mark Meer, the voice actor for MaleShep, as the basis for his appearance. But when it is the FemShep representation that's the center of attention we need to have massive votes to determine which FemShep looks best, instead of just using Jennifer Hale (who is a pretty good looking woman) as the basis for her.

To me, it screams of double standard. And as many others have said, she looks far too young, to the point that she reminds me of the re-booted Lara Croft. According to Mass Effect, Commander Shephard is 27 or 29 (I can't remember which, but it can be extrapolated from reading the codex entries).
Mark Meers was never the appearance model for Commander Shepard, only his voice. His model is a Swedish (I think?) man whom only has that very connection to the character of Commander Shepard (if you keep with default), nothing more.

Also, you do realize that humans in the Mass Effect universe can live to nearly 150 years, right? And that futuristic medical technology has been used extensively by those in the universe with the credits for it, and most 30-40 year olds can very commonly be mistaken for 20-25 through such advances (which has been presented during In Game conversations in the first and second Mass Effect game several times, no less). You can't judge a characters appearance or age in Mass Effect by present age-to-appearance factors anymore (although you can make an educated guess), as we have very little to none of the advanced skincare medicines and technology that Commander Shepard would have very good ease at getting in her position and amassed wealth in a futuristic universe.

Is it just me who when they saw that date, thought it was delayed till June? :p
NOPE!! Cuz everyone knows it's month/day/year! *grumble damn countries and your backward dates grumble*
We go Smallest-Medium-Biggest unit of time measurement. You go Medium-Smallest-Biggest.

Believe me, you're the backwards ones :p
Oh please. Anyone that thinks about it for more than 5 seconds would realise the only logical order is the one nobody in the west uses:

Year-month-day

obviously.

so that's 2011-8-28 then.

:p

... Oh, and before I forget completely...

That femshep image is pretty striking, and I wish I looked like that... >_> XD.

But that aside, while I'm not entirely familiar with Mass effect it does look like she's a little on the young side.

(Not to mention as much as I'd like to look like that, the implications of how this picture was chosen, and why, are a little disturbing.)

Good God, that is not a flattering photo at all. In fact, that is one of the ugliest photo jobs I have ever seen. She looks like she is either A: Incredibly constipated or B: Incredibly high. I feel like I should put DERP in big white letters on the photo and post it to memebase or a similar site.

OT: As far as redesigns go, this is okay, but I definitely prefer the original default female by far. Of course, I will probably never play as her and just import my old female character to ME3 instead, so it won't bother me.

1) You can change her/his/its face.
2) You're going to see the back of her/his/its face 98% of the time (if there is no helmet worn...)

I don't understand all the fuss about this.

Not bad! I think she turned out pretty good she looks young but the dark under her eyes makes her look like she's already been through hell and back.

you obvoiusly didn't take dialouge into that equation

and since it's a bioware game.....dialouge will take up a LARGE chunk of gameplay (large being relative)

She kinda looks like a 14 year old girl after her first night of heavy drinking.
