Mass Effect 3... Kinect?

The all-seeing eye of the internet happened to catch the above image of Mass Effect 3 box art for the Xbox 360 from Electronic Arts' online store. The image, which shows the Kinect Sensor compatibility bar found on all games with Microsoft's motion control system as a feature, was quickly removed from its page, though the original file is still on their servers as of the time of this writing.

We'll no doubt hear all about this at E3 next week, but I'm curious to know how you think Kinect could be implemented in Mass Effect. Will it just be a throwaway mini-game exercise or do you think BioWare is capable of bringing some deeper application of the tech?

I sure as heck hope that it's fake. I DON'T think that Mass Effect needs any of that streamlined stuff (which is fun, mind you) to make it good. Don't fix what isn't broken, am I right?

Dear God, that box art is horrific. I mean great about the Kinect thing, I suppose, I play on PC so whatever, but that box art, yikes. I hope this is photoshopped.

Edit: I don't think it should actually have Marketting Shepard on it anyway. He doesn't really exist to a lot of players, so he doesn't really hold much weight. I'd prefer seeing the Reapers descending to Earth from space with all kinds of fire and bleakness. Maybe have the Normandy in there somewhere for player reference.

that would be hilarious...kinect is a dead-end of innovation as it is, even if bioware built the entire game around kinect (which i doubt) it would still suck.

so either the above is true, ME3 will have some buggy, piece of sh** kinect mini-game; or my theory, bioware is just continuing their new trend of trolling us.

When I played on 360 I found myself using pretty much every button on the controller. How does that translate into arm waving?

Really? Because he's only on the box art of Mass Effect 1 and 2 and in every trailer. People know that face and know that it's Shepard, even if they chose not to use that face in their own game.

Is this the new planet scanning they mentioned? Literally pick the minerals off the planet with your thumb and forefinger? Or will the renegade interrupts trigger by pulling down your pants? What possible innovation could come from this revolutionary merger?! (Damn I wish this keyboard had an interrobang key.)

It doesn't matter what the kinect does for gameplay, it's a bad idea. How many people do you think have both a kinect and a preexisting save from one of the previous games? All this means is over half of the fan base can't even play the game, which of course will result in the ME3 fanboys being dicks and calling people like me fan boys for pointing out the massive logical failure.

Didn't even think about that, but yeah, you have a very good point.
Even if it isn't fake, the section that uses kinect would have to be extremely negligible.

I remain cautiously optimistic that Bioware knows what their doing. Dragon Age 2 is still fresh in my mind, but as long as the Kinect features aren't crazy weird, or something that is a gimmick, it should be alright.

E3 is right around the corner now, so I have no doubt we'll be seeing the game in action. Have already heard good things about their demo, so here's hoping...
