All the romamnce options should return, so Ash/Kaidan Miranda, Jacob, Tali, Garrus, Liara and possibly Thane ( I assume it'll be set right after the ending so should be around, either way Thanes probably my favourite character out of the series, he should stay on awesomeness alone) just for all the love triangle/catfights.

I'd quite like it if the loyalty quests came in here, and all the loyal squad members would at least want to stay.

If that wasn't an option, MORDIN!! he's hillarious, and i can't headshot somebody in any game anymore without thinking "direct organ trauma!"

I quite like Samara as well, and she does have an oath to Shepard.

One of the Krogan as well, I have no real preference, I guess Grunt would be your only choice in some cases. Makes sense for Legion to stay I think, not sure what else he would do.

After that, one or two new characters maybe, or some people we have met before but havent joined the team, a Hanar would be amusing to say the least.

Sort of unrelated, but something I hope is not around in the next game. I've started a new Mass Effect 2 game with my female Shepard from Mass Effect. She's neutral-leaning renegade but on here she's got this demonic look going. It's so cheesy looking, why did they put this on there? It's Paragon/Renegade not Good/Evil. You're still helping people if you're renegade. Now I have to buy the damn Medical Bay. Grr.

Man I am on my third playthrough of ME2 and just had the coolest thought ever but there are spoilers in it so BEWARE SPOILERS AHEAD!!! (ok that should be good) in ME1 you can convince Saren that hes wrong and he blows his brains out and in ME2 when you first wake up and run into Jacob he says Sheperad is the only subject for the lazarus project that he knows about so I think that it would be totally badass if they brought Saren back in the third one. yeah I know he was nothing but a pile of ashes at the end but hey Shepard was blown up so it could happen right?

"This one must ask: does the criminal scum feel lucky?"

On-topic: I really doubt Bioware would be so cheesy and rude as to do away with the current crew; I suppose there'll be some new members, possibly filling in for anyone who died in ME2. Also, I'm just callin' it out now:

Garrus dies in ME3, as does Ashley/Kaiden. Take that to the bank, readers.

I went through the trouble of planet grinding so I could get most the upgrades, went through all of the loyalty missions and tried several combinations on the final mission to make sure everyone got out alive. After all that I'd appreciate it if Bioware DIDN'T kill them all off! Besides the new squad (or at least the amount of development put into them) is a huge improvement from the last bunch of Milktoast McBlandersons. I'm sure they'll find some way to let you rearrange Shepard's face, but I'm crossing my fingers we get to keep the squad. ^-^

How do you think the team in Mass Effect 3 will be chosen? Whole new band of misfits? Some returning characters but mostly new? All returning characters? What would you like to see happen?
Haven't played ME2 yet, but the "threequel" is a dangerous thing.

Which is why I bet something zany will happen...like your squad member being yourself (either through cloning or timetraveling)

Throughout the game Shepard A will periodically compliment how smart Shepard B is, whilst Shepard B won't be able to help but remark how devilishly good-looking Shepard A is...

This will lead to new achievements (Me, myself, and I) as well as new romantic interest.

i lol'd, most awesome/random picture ever.

They're going to need to have at least 4-6 new people (maybe optional?),
in case you killed your entire squad. (or close)
I would guess a new human or two, maybe another turian or asari, maybe a volus or one of the other races that is underrepresented. If I had to pick from the current guys, I would say Thane, Garrus, Grunt, and/or Legion (swapping out depending on mission).

I'd actually like the crew from ME2 back, except exchange Jack for Liara.
I wish I could have Wrex back in my squad, but I'll settle for him leading a Krogan army against the Reapers.

I think it would be good to have a mix of the ME2 characters and the ME1 characters. But have a system of changing around whos on the ship with you and who is reserved to be a major NPCs to gather intel and help you in non-combat positions.

It can all work out pretty well. Will change things based on whos on shore and whos aboard the Normandy. But I do imagine that new characters will have to be made and introduced. But it makes no sense to have Shepard make an entirely new team for this.

Against the reapers it makes sense for Shepard to have all the people he's been through Hell with- both in ME1 and ME2. But more specialists and more characters will be brought in I'm sure. That and I hope that, while I liked the idea of surviving with all crew in ME2, I did like ME1 for having a character die no matter what your choices were.

And I hope we see more of that in ME3- death carries a lot of weight with it

The only squad members I really care about are Grunt, Tali, and Legion. The ones that I like rather than...love, I guess, are Thane and Garrus, and the rest I don't give a shit about.

So, my squad for ME3 will either be Grunt and Legion, Tali and Legion, or Tali and Grunt. I would hate being introduced to a completely new squad just for the hell of it.

I would prefer if as many of the old characters were brought over as possible. I mean, I would hate to have saved some of my favourite people from ME2 only for them to be written out of the epic final chapter.

At the same time, adding some new ones would also be great. Still, it would be sound odd if they were some badass soldiers that the Illusive Man just happened to miss when making the team list this time. However, he didn't anticipate Grunt or Morinth, so he clearly doesn't know everything.

I don't know if I posted here, but I am hoping that each member of your old team that survives breaks off to form their own team to fight the Reapers whilst you go around getting some new people to follow you, get all the help you can and help people/make money wherever you can inbetween.

As for who the new team members would be?

Well, I'm hoping for someone who'd be a mind fuck, the most statistically impossibly existing person ever, besides Shepard.

Garrus has to be with Shepard, they should do a huge death scene at the end where they both die to save everyone from the reapers then blow up the base after fighting during the credits :p

Obviously if you pissed off Illusive man, Ashley/Kaiden should return.
Garrus sticks with you.
Wrex is busy but I'm certain there'll be a war at the end in which he and the Krogans fight in
Tali is the Normandy's crew now so she'll stick
Liara won't fight I don't think, she's busy shooting up the Shadow Broker, which you will obviously oversee and have a choice in which Liara or Shadow Broker representative joins resulting in the others death.
Jacob's staying, he didn't even like Cerberus.
Miranda seems like she wants to stay but if not she'll stay with Cerberus.
Mordin will be doing something to do with genophage if you saved the research, not recruitable?
Jack'll probably go off to kill people, she'll either join you or fight you depending on how much you pissed her off.
Grunt'll either stay with you or rejoin clan Urdnot, you have to fight him 1 on 1 to recruit him
Thane may possibly be dead, or die during the course of the game depending on when the sequel is set.
Samara should be off doing her Justicar things, if you were a renegade maybe she'll try and kill you.
Can't say about her daughter tbh.
Legion should stay with you out of interest, also expect to take geth or quarian side in who returns to the homeworld.
Zaeed may be lurking around somewhere.

As for new characters I think if you saved the Rachni, they'll be helping in the final battle.
Maybe new recruitable Aria and what's his face captain who I made join the council even though he hates it, maybe a new spectre or even a batarian or vorcha character.
Perhaps Thane's son joins you if Thane isn't around.
Maybe even a new salarian task force member.

If they died in 1 or 2, they obviously won't join you, be prepared for no krogan/rachni help. No council = No spectre. Udina in charge = No alliance/captain what's his face. If you told the vorcha to stop what they were doing then no vorcha for you. If you didn't save Patriarch - No Aria. If Thane died due to you then he won't have time to make up with his son so no son for you.

As much as I'd love a volus/hanar/elcor member, I don't think it'll happen tbh.

Meh wow I had more on this than I thought

EDIT: Also Conrad Verner!

It has been stated before, but the fact that all ME2 characters can die does not bode well for any of them. I'd personally like to see all of them back, they all brought a different perspective to life along to the normandy, although I thought a found grunt to be slightly weak compared to the rest in terms of character. His whole mysterious tank grown think was interesting at first, but then he seemed to forget about it, and become a blood monster...
Well I might as well write about all the characters then...

Grunt: see above

Legion: got him late but was immediately intrigued by him and his personality; great addition and will definitely play a part in me3 as he is popular and is a good gateway to comprehending the geth.

Miranda: Apart from her looks, I didnt really attach myself to her, although I found her genetic modification story interesting and well used. Will prob make an appearance again

Garrus: Great character, but severely underused! I swear I only had two conversations with him before he ran out of things to say! Love his humour, I think many people can relate to him. Very popular and will make Me3, maybe even as squad member.

Tali: God, I'm at deep risk here since she seems to be the most popular character of all, but what is the big deal with her? Ok, her loyalty mission was prob my favourite, but I just dont find her that interesting or indeed the quarians as a whole. She is sweet and had a couple of moments, but still not a personal favourite, and actually one of my least favourites. Without doubt will make an appearance though in me3 and prob as squad member because of her fanbase... sigh...

Samara: The polar opposite: what is up with the samara hate? I don't think many people understand her. Sorry if I am sounding condescending (I study english at university in England), but her character is one of the most interesting and deep of all from the mass effect universe. People are put off by her immediateness, attention to justice, age, conservativeness, but when she begins to open up, her depth becomes all the more apparent. I encourage people to play through again and give her a chance, as she is an amazing character and my favourite. Unlikely to return in the squad considering her unpopularity (thanks guys), although prettty sure will play a part in me3.

Jacob: Hmm, earnest, honest, but slightly simple minded. I think this was a character decision rather than a by-product, but just not my kind of thing. I like to some depth to explore. Looked up his romance plot on youtube, and blo*dy hell he is stacked when he gets naked! Wont be in squad in Me3, may make an appearance though, although not an important one.

Mordin: Great character, unique, fleshed, funny. Well done BW. Should definitely make an appearance ME3, although given his age, might put him in pejorative conditions.

Thane: Heard before I played ME2 that he was a star character and really deep, but having played it, I was disappointed in his character. Don't get me wrong, i like him, but I was expecting him to my favourite. Had some poetic moments, but his personality didnt hit where I had hoped it would. Given his popularity, will make an appearance in mass effect 3, prob not as squaddy though.

Subject zero (jack): Interesting; maybe it was the way I played the game or maybe cause I played as female shepard, but I expected her to open more to me. She did occasionally, but immediately closed off again. I realise that this may be because of her insecurities, but nevertheless by the end of the game, I expected more than 'whatever' when saying goodbye to her having had a deep meaningful convo with her. Not sure what will happen to her in Me3

Zaeed: Meh, Had some funny stories, good loyalty mission, but suffered as a character cause I couldnt talk to him. No chance of him as squaddie and may come back as cameo in me3, although as a very minor role.

I think thats it....
So my order probably goes something like this:
Samara
Legion
Garrus
Mordin
Subject zero
Thane
Miranda
Tali
Grunt - Jacob (tie)

(left zaeed out cause I dont think its fair to judge against fully interactive characters)

phew.. Hope you see the points and dont take offense. Remember this is all opinion, not fact.
Also i'd like to hear people's opinion on why they dont like samara, it bugs me slightly. I'd also appreciate a good explanation rather than just simply '*****' or something!
Love all
x

I ended up getting Legion Thane (D.:) and JAck (no one cares about her) killed so my ME 3 squad will probably be me, (infiltrator) grunt (insert current krogan here) and miranda, though Garrus is pretty badass replacement if Miranda is getting annoying.
I've been ninja'd, so epicly. This.
