Just out of curiosity, what is your view on the upcoming Mass Effect 3? Personally I can't wait for it, omni-tool blades, improved combat, deciding the fate of entire species, multiplayer, god it's going to be great. What do you think?
This, even though I won't play it on PC. Origin has messed up my BF3 PC experience resoundingly.Adam Jensen said:I love Mass Effect, but if it turns out to be Origin exclusive on PC, it can burn in hell for all I care.
pretty much the same, except i wouldn't call me1's combat shit, just untested and unrefined. the overheat mechanic alone added so much depth to the combat.-Seraph- said:I'm buying it, but not at all hyped for it. Hell I am buying it primarily just to finish this trilogy so I can finally judge it as a whole.
It will be the final deciding factor in deeming this series to be overhyped and mediocre (which it's leaning towards), or slightly above average...and overhyped. Yea I have a bit of a rocky relationship with the series that extends beyond the the bratty whining over ME2. It's never reached the level of critical acclaim with me as others because of a number of issues, but I won't elaborate on that unless asked.
Thus far 3 looks like another mixed bag of good an bad.
On the gameplay front, it's looking like an improvement taking the good parts of 1 and 2 (mostly 2 because 1s gameplay was mostly shit). The skill trees don't look as small as 2's but not as needlessly bloated an superfluous as 1. The combat looks like 2s but more refined...and that's all I know thus far as I haven't followed it too closely. Hopefully team AI has improved and maybe more in depth team command, but I doubt it.
I do recall reading somewhere that the classes have more flexibility, such as if you don't pick a soldier, you have limited gun options, but unlike in ME2, you get to pick which ones.deathbydeath said:it looks like the only improvement over me2 is biotic punches.pretty much the same, except i wouldn't call me1's combat shit, just untested and unrefined. the overheat mechanic alone added so much depth to the combat.-Seraph- said:I'm buying it, but not at all hyped for it. I can't find a copy of the script, but hopefully it won't involve as much bitchwork as me2.
hopefully they actually add class diversity, because they all really play the same, although i do like the idea of three pure classes and mixed versions of them. other than that, i pretty much agree
Maybe calling ME1s combat 'shit' was a little extreme, but when stacked against ME2 it sure as hell is. It was mostly the all encompassing aspects of combat that made ME1s combat mediocre at best.deathbydeath said:pretty much the same, except i wouldn't call me1's combat shit, just untested and unrefined. the overheat mechanic alone added so much depth to the combat.

interesting, although that still doesn't affect playstyle much though.erttheking said:I do recall reading somewhere that the classes have more flexibility, such as if you don't pick a soldier, you have limited gun options, but unlike in ME2, you get to pick which ones.deathbydeath said:it looks like the only improvement over me2 is biotic punches.pretty much the same, except i wouldn't call me1's combat shit, just untested and unrefined. the overheat mechanic alone added so much depth to the combat.-Seraph- said:I'm buying it, but not at all hyped for it. for me the cooldown made me think about what i was going to do (like pace my fire more, melee, switch, etc), but while sure the mods did make it irrelevant, that was at the cost of strength/effects of your shots, because they all had a downside (which is good, more please)-Seraph- said:Maybe calling ME1s combat 'shit' was a little extreme, but when stacked against ME2 it sure as hell is. The fucking enemy and friendly AI was terrible and annoying (I'm looking at you bum rushing krogans with shotguns #$%^%$&%^), the overheat mechanic was annoying and become irrelevant when you had the higher level gear. The overall feel of combat made it feel like 'Gears of War lite', which made it feel off.
I was overjoyed with the shaky canon heat sinks because I didn't have to wait for my fucking gun to cool down, which did nothing but awkwardly pace combat. Me2 was just overall smoother in combat and just felt right. Still had some issues, but nowhere near as frustrating and underwhelming as the first game.
My understanding is that only the digital deluxe edition will be Origin exclusive, but i'm in the same boat as you.Adam Jensen said:I love Mass Effect, but if it turns out to be Origin exclusive on PC, it can burn in hell for all I care.
