Great. Because this type of thing was fantastic in Bioshock.
There's no way an online multiplayer would work, unless it was co-op.

They need to make an MMO. Why did Bioware have to make a new Star Wars MMO instead of a Mass Effect one. I'd have appreciated it several times more.

Keep in mind that Neverwinter Nights was made by Bioware and that game has the best online experience of any RPG to date. If we are lucky, we'll get something like that, where Game Masters can set players up for co-op "missions" or the ability to play Co-Op missions with other players. Somehow, the idea to launch a standard DM, TDM, CTF & Domination competitive PvP style multiplayer just seems stupid in Mass Effect.

I don't see the point in all the moaning here. If you don't like multi-player in a game, don't play it. As long as it doesn't make the developer put less effort in single-player (which shouldn't be anyone's concern here seeing as we're talking about Bioware) then the only thing coming out of it is - people who DO want multi-player will get more for their money.

So stop overreacting .

It continues, Assassin's Creed to Mass Effect.

Games that perform sensationally well as single player entities, but the eyes of greed grow wide and "mainstream" additions are lapelled on to amuse the horde.

I thought Mass Effect 2 was a step down, but the franchise seems set to burn in flames if this has the weight it is thought to have.

The existing "non consequence consequential" choice system will have absolutely no bearing if there's a co-operative mode, and if there's competitive...

Unless it's MMO - which is unlikely judging by the description.

I've actualy wanted this.
Me and my mates who have completed ME 2 talk about how awsome it would be to be able to play the story in Co-op mode. Maybe the host of the game would play as there Shepard but the others would play faceless blanks but with their Shepards lvls items and abilitys/class.

I have no problem with letting friends play as my squad members, or playing as a squaddie on a friend's team. It shouldn't be a big deal to just remove the pause while you select and aim a power, with hotkeys you can already get through the game and never use the powerwheel in combat if you don't want to. Time dilation effects would probably be a lot like playing FEAR multiplayer, which was fine. No reason why this can't work as a coop game.

Much like Fable II?

Yeah, that went really well.

Ugh, I love Mass Effect, but it's shooting mechanics are nowhere near good enough to work as a multiplayer game, just... just, no.
I doubt it means online PvP matches. Online co-op, however, would be plausable.
Not only plausible, but awesome.
Bioware isn't going to sacrifice story for multiplayer. They aren't that kind of company.
So everyone can stop whining about something we have barely info about.

Secondly if they did have a multiplayer component, I would love to see something like MW2's Spec ops. Disconnected from the main game, yet in similar locations. Just little, fun, objective based co-op missions. Sign me up! Running around with friends all firing guns, biotics, and tech powers? IT's be like Mass Effect Volleyball there would be so much setting up going on: "Hit 'em with a pull field and I'll throw 'em!
Sweet. Sign me up.

Please no...

If you want to change a franchise, then change the things that DIDN'T work rather than add unnecessary additions. The Bioware storytelling is unmatched, and it doesn't need shoddy multiplayer murkying that up.

Instead, have ME3 have some sidequest mechanics that are just as entertaining as the main storyline. The crappy vehicle sections of the first were the worst part of the game, as were the exceedingly boring planet probing necessities of the second. For ME3 I'd like to see something awesome in the place of these rather than a raging emokid looking for a corpse to teabag.

Obviously with such a lack of information regarding where Bioware is planning on going with this, these concerns could very well be moot. I remain skeptical, however. I hope that I'm proven wrong.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
NO NONONONONNONONONONO unless your making an mmo of it, which in the case of mass effect might work really well, it should stay the hell away from multiplayer

Unless it's co-op, I can see no good to come of this. I love Mass Effect and Bioware, but I doubt they could pull off a multiplayer game.

[sub] Of course I said the same thing about Bioshock 2.....[/sub]

The only way I could see this even feasibly working is unlocking the multiplayer aspect after finishing the single player sort of as an "This is whats going on afterwards" with the final cutscene or whatever ending with some guy saying "Shepherd's given his life/done his job/gotten too old to protect the universe, we're going to need someone else to do it now." Then you get to make a new character (thinking you'd have to pick a last name from a list so they can voice act it) and it's off to do new missions and what not.

-OR-

Host gets to use Shepherd then friends/abducted hobo's/OL 12YO's get to bring one of their characters from their squad and control them. But ya know no equipment swapping so level 1 Shepherd can't start out the game with a shotgun that shoots flaming nuclear black holes while wearing armor that can't be penetrated by anything but Unobtanium.

No. Just no. Why does everyone seem to think multiplayer is a must have? I play Bioware RPG's to relax by myself not to have a twelve year old spawn camp me  Why do they have to do this to their best series? I dont understand people.
