I?m Commander Shepard and this is my favourite mod on the BioWare forums

If you?d been planning to replay the first two games in preparation for the big finish with Mass Effect 3′s launch in March, HOLD UP JUST A MOMENT THERE. Those games are a couple of years old already, which means they?re too hideous to look at without protective eye-gear OR this super high resolution texture pack.

?My goal was to massively improve character detail while keeping Bioware?s fantastic design as intact as possible,? writes mod creator JeanLuc761 over on the BioWare forums. ?Character textures now range from 2048×2048 to 4096×4096, which is 4x more detailed than the default textures.?

The pack comes in two editions ? ?optimized? and ?ultra?.

?All characters in the optimized pack use a balance of 1024×1024 and 2048×2048 textures in order to achieve the best balance between quality and performance that I could achieve for this mod. The ultra pack is composed primarily of 4096×4096 textures for armor/body models and a mix of 2048×2048 and 1024×1024 for faces,? he explains, adding that the ?ultra? pack comes with 15-20 minute load times, so yeah.

You can read more about the mod, including installation instructions, and download it at the link below.

Does this mean the meme can finally end?

Edit: Oh, wait. Thought it was an official Bioware mod. Nevermind then. Just me being silly.

Can I just say that I have never understood the massively overwhelming fanwank passionate love for Tali?

She is seriously just some girl with an accent whose face you never see. Is that it? Is it the mystery? Is it the knowledge that fucking her would kill her from all the various infections?

That she is so fragile she can die from breathing unfiltered air?

And don't give me 'yeah but she's also pretty tough', because no she isn't, she's a goddamned engineer, her skillset isn't even useful unless you're going against robots.

She should be kept on the ship where she's safe and not wading through lasers and bullets and thus making herself into a monumental liability what with her extraordinary fragility.

And while we're on it, why can't Femshep fuck Mordin Solus?

(because he's too fucking awesome, that's why)

Yeah, I don't really get the fascination either. I did the bare minimum amount of interaction with her, and aside from her personal mission, I never used her in my party. I just simply don't like her character and don't find her skills particularly useful either.

But, everyone knows Garrus is where it's at. He'd better be a homo romance option in ME3, or I'm going to stab cute kittens with rusty spoons.

Looking at DA2, though, I'm guessing everyone is going to be up for everything.

i like Tali as a character, she's my main romance option, followed closely by Liara, but apparently that makes me in the minority on this thread.

but on the topic of the mod, Tali's face isnt that hard to figure out. grey or purple skin, pupiless eyes, no hair, with everything else being humanlike, seeing her face isnt THAT big of a deal

I saw this mod a while back. Thankfully, it comes in sections, so you don't need the whole thing if you just want improvement in a few areas.

Also, to answer the above: because the social forums are one of the worst cesspits on the internet. It's the place where Tali's sweat analysis came from.

It's true. It kind of happened gradually, but all of Bioware's characters have turned into huge sluts.

gosh those are such subtle differences...but damn they are sexy ones.

OT: i've never really cared for tali, she's "neutral" to me, leaning towards hated for how much wank there is over her, but mehh she's okay.

*oogles over the idea of seeing miranda's ass in 4096x4096...DAT ASS.)

Shes the delicate, awkward and sensitive flower that every dude wants.

At least, that's the only explanation that I can find.

Oh and Miranda is the hottest. Goddamn, dat ass.

Delicate, awkward, sensitive flowers have no place on a fucking battlefield.

Apart from which, if i wanted a delicate, awkward, sensitive flower, I'd play Spongebob: Battle For Bikini Bottom.

I'd rather have a strong, confident, self-assured woman who does not require my assistance for every little conceivable thing and who I also can touch without murdering with bacteria.

Do you have any idea what lives in your saliva? There are about 200 different forms of microscopic life in there. Tali's species has no immune system. Kissing her hand would kill her.

Also to hell with Miranda, if I have to listen to one more lecture about how she's awesome and perfect and wonderful and it's so hard to be so awesome and perfect and wonderful I am firing her out of a fucking airlock.

(Samara. Samara is the answer. Because she is feared, respected, honored, can rip open a bulkhead with her mind and handle a fucking assault rifle. *starryeyes*)

If you want to know why, it's because her character epitomizes one of the two major paradigms of modern young adult culture, making her, ironically enough, more relatable than a number of the humans we meet in the game that have long established military carriers. We live in a society were growing up is made into a very scary and alien thing. We're constantly reminded that well hit rock bottom from the wrong choices and that everything is out to get us.

When you first meet Tali, she is away from home and is in trouble because of a chance occurrence. She's young and inexperienced, but eager to help. It's how most people just getting away from their parents want to think of themselves: In over their head, but ready and able to make something of themselves.

All joking aside, I get that, and that's actually part of why I don't find her at all sexual.

I do not want to fuck my little sister.

I want to keep my little sister on the ship and out of sight, where she is safe.

The one who has weathered a lifetime of harsh experiences and yet has come through it neither bitter nor jaded and can rip out a bulkhead with her mind plus also work a fucking assault rifle, that's the one I want.

I always felt kind of sorry for Samara, and though she may appear outwardly stoic I always felt an aura of melancholy around her.

In any case, Justicar code = no sex. So tough beans :<

Yeesh, some people are seriously getting worked up over nothing. People like Tali, she's a likable character, that's all there is to it. Sometimes guys prefer the nice girl to the, physco the ice queen and the lady old enough to be my great great great great great great great great great great great great grandmother.

I never got how the Quarians ended up with no immune system in the first place...

I mean, okay sure, they live in suits, that would do it. But why do they live in suits? Because they have no immune systems... Because they live in ships? How the how does that work, how would the mass exodus of a population in overcrowded ships result in a sterile environment? If anything it should be the opposite...

The ships themselves are hyper-sterilized. Since you get no outside contaminants it stays that way. And the immune system atrophies like any muscle if it gets no work. Hell, people on earth actually do end up with severely compromised immune systems from living in overly sterile environments, and we're not talking 100% sterile like a spaceship.

Also as far as I know, they don't actually live in suits. Those are just for the outside world and interacting with... well, anything from the outside.

No, they wear their suits all the time.

I imagine the only time they take off their suits is for reproduction and the occasional shower.

It would be interesting to see how they eat though...
