I heard they weren't even going to have Shepard in the movie. I was more expecting it was going to be more like the novels where it's all original stories set in the Mass Effect universe with a couple cameos here and there of characters you've seen in the story.

What the hell kind of story are they going to tell with Shepard if it has nothing to do with the games? Besides, the whole point of Shepard is that he's a blank slate that the player can do with as s/he pleases.

And why the f*ck not Seth Green as Jeff? Not only is he the voice actor (and he's got a very unique voice so obviously Jeff is going to sound COMPLETELY off in the movie) but Seth even LOOKS like Jeff. There's no reason not to use Seth Green...

Oh well, I'm glad I had my hype dropped before it started. Still probably going to end up watching the movie though lol

I'm more disappointed that the movie isn't about the best character...

Anyone remember Kill Bill? How badass the protagonist was even though she was a woman? How it changed Hollywood's view on female action stars? We need a FemShep! I dunno who should play her, but make it happen! Time for another petition.

EDIT: Also, if this is going to be a completely different story, this might mean that our favorite characters won't show up as well. I'm not gonna touch the Joker/Green thing, because the above comments did that pretty good.

Well, since I don't like maleshep at all my interest in this is very small. Actually, I don't think it's going to be good.

Male Shepard: To be expected
Seth Green not doing Joker: disappointing, but to be expected
This movie sucking as all other video game based movies do: Inevitable, and to be expected.

Mass Effect is the only game that I uttered the Blasphemous, "This could be a movie." As much as that is horrifying to say, I repeated it after Mass Effect 2, and will probably again after 3. I don't really care about Shepard's gender and a story that happens between games is fine with me. I mean there is time between 1 and 2 even before Shepard life signs are temporarily put on hold.

However, not using Seth Green as Joker is a terrible decision. I will grant that Seth Green may have a bunch on his plate, playing with action figures and being paid for it, but the studio should have at least tried.
On that note let the chanting begin: Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green, Seth Green.

No Seth Green as Joker? NOOOOOOOOOOO! Other than that, I have to say that a male Shepard makes waaaaaay more sense since most of the audience will be male, most people play as male Shepard, and how could they have those relationships with Ashley and/or other female characters? That is, if they even are going to use some of the original Mass Effect story.

How fuckin' stupid does an entire movie industry have to be to repeat same mistakes over and over again? Every game to movie adaptation sucked because they didn't listen to fans of the original material. Is it that hard to listen to an already HUGE fanbase and make something that has a potential to earn a lot of money?
The only game to movie adaptation that was any good was Prince of Persia, and only because Ubisoft didn't let those morons ruin it completely. But I doubt EA would care that much.

And why wouldn't they cast Seth Green? He's a well known actor, everybody loves him, and he is Joker in the game. There is no reason not to cast him.
Fans are horrible creatures. You do what they want and they will still tear you a fucking part.

It'll be a movie based on a video game. How good are its chances of not being completely and intentionally forgotten six months after release because it sucked?

Will they keep the bioware-face though?
It will take months of intensive training with anaesthetics and hallucinogens for the actors to even begin to resemble this:

In related news, they won't be casting Yvonne Strahovski because she doesn't look the part for Miranda.
I think you might be mistaken there, because Miranda's bodytype is copied off Yvonne Strahovski's one.So I've heard and read.

Also agree with Seth Green not being cast in the Mass Effect movie is just simply stupid. He fits Joker's role perfectly.

I've never been too keen on the Mass Effect movie. If anything, it would have to be set before Shep came on the scene. Perhaps about the First Contact War. Because my Shep is different from everyone else's, and unless the movie follows my Shep exactly, part of my brain will be going, "No, she'd never do that."
That's the real problem right there. Everyone's Shep is different, from the backstory, to the appearance, to his/her gender, to even who she falls in love with. If I saw Shep in a romance with Kaiden instead of Liara...oooooh, anger. And I'm sure other fans would be annoyed like me because the Shep on the screen won't be THEIR Shep. It's too much trouble to make a movie based on a 'choose-your-own-adventure' style game.

So...The movie is going to suck because they're using a version of a character that has most consistently represented the main character of the series since it's release, and because they're not using 1 actor for a role that probably won't be major anyways..

Get real, if it sucks, it'll suck because it turned out to be a half assed attempt at a game adaptation like so many others, not because of those reasons.

Wow, no Seth Green? Maybe he turned it down to do more Robot Chicken or do coke with Charlie Sheen.

I honestly don't care what they do with this movie. Best case scenario it'll be watchable. Worse case scenario it'll be on DVD a week after it comes out.

I personally think they shouldn't have used the Commander Shepard character at all. I'd rather see some human mercenary follow some bounty and stumble over some Reaper stuff. Or prothean stuff. Or both. Maybe he uncovers some big conspiracy that explains the ME universe to people who have no interest in playing the game.

Creativity isn't allowed in Hollywood. If you're expecting any thing other then a template sci-fi flick you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

So... what... it should feature a female Shepard and risk alienating the 60 percent of the fanbase that prefers him?

Some of the most self entitled gamers i've had the displeasure of dealing with are ardent femshep fans.
yeah that made 100% no sense when he said 40 percent femshep lovers...which i'm sure is much less actually, it's just all the people who die for femshep are the most vocal bunch out of all gamers out there.

OT: It's a movie, take it or leave it, it does not affect the games in any shape or form, there is no reason to get so mad over it.

these are all small tidbits when the movie hasn't even started production, so calm down there. jeesh, you might just surprise yourself and enjoy the movie if you don't be such a fucking deadbeat critic.

Yeahhhhh that was the point. Seth Green looks exactly like Joker. The only more ridiculous thing they could do is not cast Strahovski for the same retarded reason. Hence my brilliant joke!

Captcha: Ryotuchi Hazardous. Sounds like a great name for an anime.

"Original story" sounds like it means "totally generic sci-fi film having nothing to do with the source material other than using its name to guarantee reasonable box office success".

Or am I being cynical?
