Lots of things are canon, like the council for-a-fact dying as well as Wrex and I think Kaidan. It would of course be in the best interest of the movie to wait til 3's out to see what it declares 2's canon was.

That being said, even if they go any other direction, Mass Effect is about player choice, and if the movie does this you could look at it like their playthrough and choices.

When this movie project was announced, I took solace in the fact that BioWare was so involved. Now I'm not so sure. This info about the movie isn't all too inspiring.

But it's early yet, they're probably still trying to find out where everything goes. Let's see if this thing even sees the light of day.

Meh. ManShep is canon, so no problem there really. Didn't really expect them to do anything other than re-tell ME1, so again, no surprises or issues there.

Seth Green not being cast as Joker? Sense, this does not make any of it. Somewhat annoying too. Jokers', well...jokes are a great way of breaking the tension in Mass Effect and when it's Chris Griff...sorry, Seth Green voicing him, it makes it even funnier.

The only thing I can get sort of upset about is no Seth Green. The rest of it is pretty standard stuff for what happens when Hollywood execs puts their slimy hands on gaming IP. Who knows, maybe they could make something worth seeing if they got a good director.

So... what... it should feature a female Shepard and risk alienating the 60 percent of the fanbase that prefers him?

Some of the most self entitled gamers i've had the displeasure of dealing with are ardent femshep fans.
Wow... I'm sittin' here, sipping on this tea, and I'm trying to figure how I can agree with this statement more, but I just can't... my agreement is peaked, it would seem.

Anyhoo... the idea of a Mass Effect movie intrigues me, but if they can't even get the xasting (I'm gonna leave that typo in 'cause it cracks me up) of Joker right, god only knows what else they'll screw up. Unless they tried to cast Seth as Joker and he declined or something, I'll probably pass on this one.

Why make a movie about an interactive movie? That doesn't make any sense, but I suppose the few dollars they can attempt to make off it would be seen as good. But then again, I would rather see a Mass Effect TV show set within the same universe but either after Sheppard's trilogy is over, or the few wars a certain race of earthlings had to fight against the space kittens.

You know, I've always played FemShep, but in all seriousness... Having the movie Shepard being ManShep won't be quite as bad as in the games. The reason for that?

He won't be voiced by Mark Meer.

Also if FemShep were in the movie instead, odds are she wouldn't be as good as FemShep in the game, because she wouldn't be Jennifer Hale...

Edit: The statistic for FemShep players is actually closer to 20%, but no one can deny that they aren't a damn dedicated 20%. My argument still stands, but this was a problem they knew they were going to have to face when they decided to use Shepard as the film's protagonist.
lol problem? This isn't a problem at all. Those 20% will go see the movie regardless, because those 20% are huge nerds. And the rest of the planet is much more likely to see an action movie with a male star. There is no issue.

Why do video game movies always make their own stories...? If they stuck with the source material a little more, video game movies would lose a ton of their problems. Obviously, it would be incredibly difficult to adapt the game 100%, as each planet can basically be its own individual movie, but the Saren + Geth + Reaper plot is still a good one that they're stupidly throwing away.

I don't read the books. Can you provide source on Wrex being killed canonically? Not that it really matters, since I don't read the books, but that seems incredibly stupid to me.

Seth Green not playing Joker sucks, but it's stupid to be bothered by Shepard not being female. Shepard was male on the first two boxes of the game and there are more people who play male than female in Mass Effect. It's not worth complaining about.

Paragon players will be pissed because Shepard is too much of an asshole in some scenes.

Renegade players will be pissed because Shepard is too much of a nice guy in some scenes.

Everybody loses.

We should see that British sniper guy's story instead.

Slightly at a tangent to the original post but something I would love to know the answer to on the subject of the 20% who play as a female (and it's kinda important when decisions are made based on this statistic):

I haven't seen how Bioware arrived at that statistic. Is it:

1. the % of people who started the game as female?
2. the % of people who finished the game as female?
3. the % of total hours ever played by all players as a female?
4. Other

I ask because I started the game twice as a guy and got bored after 10 mins twice, not to mention that his voice grated, and then had a go as the female and played through twice immediately totalling over 40 hours on the first ME and an obscene number of hours as a female on ME2. From this my preference would be 50% male for the first game if using statistic 1, but pushing 100 female for option 2 or 3. Big difference.

Statistics can say anything you want them to depending on the question. I don't mind the reported statistics but I would also like to know how they asked the question: 1, 2, 3, or other, so I can understand what it actually means?

No female Shepard, I can understand. But no Seth Green? Why? What happened? Come on! Joker can't be anyone but Seth Green! Did he turn down the contract?

I need to ask one question and one question only of people who make video game movies *ahem* WHY DO YOU KEEP CHANGING THE FUCKING PLOT!? No seriously, why? I mean, ok, in SOME game movies you can get away with it a bit (Silent Hill, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider etc) but i just don't get why they always need to change so damned much with these movies and keep only bare minimum of what the original story was? This might sound incredibly cruel but...WE DON'T WANT TO SEE YOUR ORIGINAL STORY, we just want to see the same story we played through but only on the big screen. I mean, you keep comic book films practically the same nowadays so why not video games? URGHHH!

Anyway, on topic: I honestly don't see this working...at all.

They change the plot because they need to. Can you imagine trying to get the exact same plot of Mass Effect into a movie? For a start, the movie would have to be at least ten hours long.

Also, because 99% of video games plots are pure shit. Not that the movie versions turn out any better, mind you

I don't agree with the idea of a movie. Gawd just think of how much money would have to go into the cgi/costume budget for the aliens! I think of mass effect as the world where my choices matter but instead will be seein a movie that doesnt give a rats ass? IT will probably suck, like every movie based off a game (did u ever see the bloodrayne movie? BLEH!)
