great idea no doubt fantastic even but I think that for a proposed origin story it would for the Quarians you need to start farther back than the flotilla maybe on the Quarian homeworld before during or right after the battle against thier creations the Geth. And probably the same for some of the other races as well. The Humans for example would ideally start at during blitz or at a time when primitive lead firing weapons were their primary arms just before more advance tech was adapted and the norm

Why would you think TOR will "bomb"?
The same reason that Warhammer is failing, Aion failed, and most MMOs fail; it's being hyped far too much. I don't know if you've played any MMOs just after launch, but they ALWAYS suck. Like, hardcore. Hundreds upon thousands, maybe even a million people will install this game and log on. And the server stress will be fuckin' biblical. There will be crashes galore, bugs, stuck characters, a virtual Armageddon of PC rage. And people will leave.

And besides, Star Wars just doesn't lend itself to an MMO, because people mostly want one thing: To play a Jedi. And to make Jedi NOT completely overpowered, you have to basically destroy canon. And that is NOT cool, Boo Boo.

salarians and turians can be biotic
Quarians cant test for it so it doesnt matter
Saren was biotic

but other than that i agree
as long as the shooting is still intact and doesnt take the combat from Dragon age

I like the cut of your jib sailor.
No, really, it sounds like a good idea. I'd most likely buy that were it made. We already know that the ME controls work on the consoles too unlike the horrible controls for DA:O on the console (XBox 360 at least which is what I played. I don't imagine they're any better on PS3).

I would like an MMO first pl0x.
This is actually the kind of game I would like to see BioWare turn into a Mass Effect MMO.

I know TOR looks pretty good, but I'm just not that interested in Star Wars. I mean the movies were decent, but I've never really found myself to be interested in the lore surrounding the series. I'm not entirely sure why, considering that I am easily interested in the lore involved in most video games.

Anyways, from what I've heard about TOR, the start of the game and story missions are based on your faction and class. BioWare could implement a similar system in which your story is based on your starting race and class in a BioWare MMO. That would be perfect for me. A chance to learn more about each race in detail. To see how events in the Mass Effect universe are viewed based on the different perspectives of each race. Provided you can play as a Geth, by far the most interesting race in Mass Effect, I would probably feel obligated to try it regardless of the game play.

Although I like the sound of your idea (I would love to play as some of the other races) I'm somewhat skeptical of taking the ME further than it's supposed to go. The ME series is great but I just don't think it would be the same without Shepard. I mean what time period are you going to set it? You'd have to do it after, because humans hadn't been on the galatic stage for very long. Oh Shit! That just made me think about importing your ME games to change the setting... Fuck now I'm really into it.

Still some series should just be left alone after they've completed their original story. Otherwise you just up beating the dead horse to get a semblance of life out of it. Or in the case of Sonic, dragging out that poor blue hedgehog's life for too long. Sometimes a series just has to end.

I'd play it, provided they don't take the fucked-up route of focusing on combat like they did in Origins. I love BioWare, but combat is not their strongest point.
This sort of game HAS been done before - just look at Fallout Tactics for an example. It was basically a baldur's gate clone with an emphasis on ranged combat rather than melee and magic and it worked well enough I suppose. I just don't know how you would set up the context of everything. I don't think I'd want the mass effect cast taking part honestly, and I suppose it could take the form of a paralell story instead.

I had an idea for a Mass Effect playable character that isn't Sheppard, I'd love something like this.

If only modern games would let me customise my character to the point that I could have him like how I imagined, crazy, holding a fully automatic weapon with one hand....
I even had an idea for my character having a vest which explained away health regen and shields.

"You're not even wearing armour!"

"This vest has a shield generator and medigel injectors installed, you ain't taking me down easy!"

"Fuck."

The mass effect universe is massive, to the point that they took a small side conversation you had with Capitan Anderson and turned it into a full length book! i can definitely see this happening, but you can't take the old cop-out approach of "lets turn this into a prequel of mass effect and call it good so we can make lots of money and not have to work that hard" because if they did that i would lose all respect for bioware. so i think the approach for the books of making it have it's own story ark but have lose connections with the main one in the form of allusions to establish when this is happening withing the main story arch timeline and to enforce that the actions that happened in Shepperd's story ark did in fact have an affect and is as popular as you think he is but not overly much so.

Another critical factor to consider if bioware where to make this game is when withing the Shepperd story ark should this happen, for me the best place for this to happen would be right after the redemption comics, Sheppard taking a "nap" and most people have forgotten about him but his name would still be whispered around and rumors of him still living would provide a good amount of isolation from the main story ark while still providing lose connections to it, also leaving soom room for possible run-ins with characters from the other games to enforce the allusions. Also, having it being in the time frame of Shepperd's two year "nap" would provide a good reason of why your character is saving the galaxy, because someone has to right?
the one thing i'm on the edge in including in this game is using the reapers as the the true antagonist but are doing so by manipulating their minions directly or indirectly. But i guess that would be a good thing because it shows that the reapers have multiple plans in action, because they are so "superior".

so yes i think this would be a good game, but just like the mass effect movie. Only if you do it right.

sorry for the wall of text it's just when i get thinking, i get thinking.

Well, everyone has their opinions.

Also, I'm going bounty hunter before I make a force character.

Rather what they should do is a 'Mass Effect: Origins' game in which they explore Shepard's backstory. For example what happens on Elysium when he's Spacer/War Hero? Or on Torfan and Earth when you play as Earthborn/Ruthless.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it wasn't Mass Effect 3. I remember reading somewhere that there was a job posting for a multiplayer programmer that sounded an awful lot like it was going to be for a Mass Effect game. if I can find the story or the actual job posting I'll post it here.

What i want is to play the Shepard history.

i want to fight off the enemy during the skylian blitz( assuming you picked war hero)
maybe they will do it for fun in the number 3 during a dream or something.

although if you could play as any race. i would expect a huge quarian following. ( all hail the flotilla)

because tali is the girl next door, and the fact that you can't see her face makes her the 'mysterious' girl next door.

Of course not. However, Mass Effect's universe is practically begging for an MMO. There are a ridiculous number of periods in the timeline to set them in (the first Contact War, for example), the lore is already established, and besides, The Old Republic is probably going to bomb anyways.
So, the Star Wars Universe was not begging for an MMO? One if not the most popular science fiction franchises ever? One of the most established universes ever is not begging for an MMO? Star Wars is better for one. It already has a much larger universe and history. More places to explore, travel to, more alien species, etc. etc.

It sounds like you believe that BioWare would not thoroughly check for bugs and glitches before releasing the game. Which is just plain ignorant. That said, all games have bugs and glitches when released, it just depends how noticable they are. Also, any game no matter the genre, can "suck" when it comes out if people get there hopes up too high and have unreasonable expectations.

Judging from those last sentences you obviously haven't heard much about the combat and the PvP battle zones. http://e3.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/705576/E3-2010-Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic-Exclusive-Three-Part-Demo.html Watch the combat demo video, second from the top. Its at the very beginning. Lastly, this isn't going to be your typical MMO, its fully voiced, it can be played like a single player RPG and it is story driven.

I have to say you make an incredibly strong argument and I'd actually be willing to throw money down on Bioware continuing the Mass Effect universe in this way. I'd definitely buy a game like this and if Bioware is looking at this forum right now MAKE THIS GAME!!!

Kudos man, kudos.
