Janx:
Janx ran into the training room in time to catch the final hook thrown by Karnak that sent Pallat to the ground. Verdix, Xiev, and Keith stood still for a moment as they assessed what had happened. Keith looked at Karnak, and back at Pallat, before looking back at Janx and having an uncomfortable expression cross his face.
?I?m just going to, er? Should I get Miles??
Karnak?s stopped staring off, and turned his gaze to Keith who was nervously shifting his feet around and inching towards the door. He continued to stare at him as Keith got closer and closer to the door.
?I?ll take that as a no, but just yell if you need me to fetch him,? he said as he turned away from staring at Karnak, bumping into Janx as he passed through the door. ?Sorry.?
Verdix was kneeling beside Pallat, whispering to him, trying to determine what was best to do. Xiev stood a few feet back, keeping focused on Pallat, ready to do whatever was asked, but not wanting to get much closer than where he was.
?What happened?? Janx asked as he approached Karnak.
?He knows not to run his mouth,? Karnak said as his gaze returned back to Pallat, still sprawled out on the ground. ?After all we fucking did for him.?
?He?s just upset by this Kar, none of us really wanted to be thrown into this---?
?You think this is what I wanted as well? I wanted---?
?I know, I know, I?m not blaming you here,? Janx said as he motioned with his hands for Karnak to try and remain calm. ?None of us are, except him, right?... Right??
?Uh, no, wait, I mean ya,? Xiev said, after being nudged by Janx to speak up. ?Me and Verdix don?t blame you. I?m sure Pallat doesn?t really either, he?s just, well, wound up.?
?Karnak, Karnak look at me,? Janx said as he snapped his fingers to interrupt Karnak?s vision. ?None of us blame you for this. You?ve helped each of us out here. You?ve been looking out for each of us since we landed on Omega. None of us think that you?ll stop now, or that you?re going to march us straight to our ends. We all still trust you, and appreciate what you?ve done.?
The distant, unattached look in Karnak?s eyes faded as he shook his head a bit, and started to focus on Janx. Janx knew that it had been tough on Karnak as well, and that he hated that they had been forced to serve with him. Each of them owed much to him, their jobs, their homes, their friendship. If Karnak hadn?t been looking out for them, each would still be on the bottom rung of Omega, cast in with thousands of other Batarian refugees that landed on the station with nothing.
?Go get yourself ready,? Janx said as he patted Karnak on the shoulder. ?We?ll get Pallat sorted, and prepare ourselves. Don?t get too worked up about all of this. We?ll be right behind you on this.?
?Thanks,? Karnak said as he stepped away from Janx, and towards the door. ?I promise you, I?ll get you all through this, or else??
His voice trailed off as he stepped through the doors, and turned down the hall to go towards the armoury. It was time for him to get his equipment ready, and prepare himself for the next mission like the rest of the company.
