"We've come far in a month haven't we? Our control over the district is secure and Meer is back into hiding. Better dead than hiding but that son of a ***** will turn up sooner or later and when he does I'm going to skin him alive." They had lost for men because of him. Never again. Never again. Taking a deep drag of his cigar to break that train of logic, he shook his head to clear the storm settling over his mind and walked into the headquarters of Aegis. Nodding to Haley as he strolled towards the kitchen, he took another inhale before taking note of the new recruit.

"You must be the one of the new kids. I'm Raven, second in command of this group. Follow me, we'll discuss your contract over some breakfast." Satisfied that he had gotten his point across, he moved to the kitchen. Smiling as he saw Dray and Sal, he said "I'll have some of what the newbie is having Dray thanks." Seating himself at the counter, he dropped the ash into the trash before talking to Sal, "Hard to believe isn't it? The powers of Omega coming together as something other than war. Never thought I see it happen. How's the battle scar holding up?"

"Nice to meet you" Kyra replied, somewhat pleased that the others were at least acknowledging her. "So, uh... What is there to do around here for training facilities? I've been stuck in the hospital for the past 2 weeks, need to start getting back into shape."

Just then, Raven walked up, wanting to discuss her contract. "Sir" Kyra responded, moving to sit next to him. She listened to the conversation, figuring that would be as good a way as any to learn about the people she'd be working with. She remained silent, content to wait to speak until she was engaged in conversation.

Dray:

Dray was still fretting over not having this as good as they should be. All he had set out to do today was to make sure she felt comfortable in Aegis and make her the best possible breakfast, and he had failed on both counts. He stood silent as he began to stare at the floor, his mind wandering away from him as he did it.

"I'll have some of what the newbie is having Dray," Raven said, snapping Dray back to reality. "Thanks."

Dray turned his head and rushed off to the fridge, throwing another cut of meat on the stovetop as he started to crack some eggs.

He still hadn't found his seasoning.

Ethan woke up earlier than he was used to without reason. He found he enjoyed this new found time and ended up spending an excessive amount of time standing in a hot shower. Feeling refreshed, he took the time to shave that morning and got dressed in a comfortable semi-formal outfit. He clipped a shield generator to his belt in case of anything going awry, which happened far too often when one worked for Aegis and slid his small needle pistol under the belt buckle, concealing it nicely, He slung his phalanx onto his belt and left it hanging on his hip, a knife slid into the holster.

He walked out of the ship and walked the short distance to the Aegis home base, and walked in through the doors of the Elixir, greeting the bouncer and offering a smile and a wink to the Asari bartender. He walked to a relatively unassuming wall at the unfrequented back of the club and slid open the hidden door, walking through the corridor into the Aegis base. He walked over to the mess, he hadn't had breakfast and the realization of that fact was creeping up on him.

He came to the mess and saw a few other members of Aegis sitting and beginning to talk. as he got closer he first talked to Sal, "Feeling better Sal?" He had been unusually concerned, almost overprotective over her following the fight with the Splits, he wouldn't admit it, but seeing the Quarian girl hurt had brought up a painful set of memories. As a result, he took a few extra seconds to look her over for any signs that there might be something amiss.

He also saw the new girl sitting next to Raven while he was talking. He came up to the man and offered his two cents on Raven's statement, "I'm honestly surprised it took this long to get organized like this, with the big three gone, the only way organizations like this can fill that void before Aria moves in is by working together. Hopefully we won't want to kill each other before we can consolidate this power."

After speaking his little piece he turned to the young woman sitting at the counter, "Howdy, You must be the new girl, call me Paladin"

He found a free seat, and occupied it after getting comfortable, he called over to the Salarian working the grill, "Hey! Dray, can I get some eggs, toast, bacon and some OJ?"

"Sore from time to time, especially with my sparing." Sal said rubbing her shoulder. "I really don't want to be cornered like that again. Plus I owe Karnak big time." She said before Kyra saluted. "Heh, not many of us do that here, at least when not being smart asses or acknowledging a direct order. Anyway there's a training room on the third floor down. Nothin like the training facilities in the Alliance I'm sure but it does the job."

She turned as Paladin walked in a smiled beneath her helmet. "Hey Paladin, yeah much. Shoulder still act's up after sparing but other than that I'm fine."

"I'll make sure to check it out then" Kyra said to Sal. "Be nice to start training again. I'll try to work on the saluting: basic training in the Alliance kinda beats it into your head."

"Ok Paladin, call me Kyra" She said, before turning back to her meal. A lot of new people for to be meeting this early in the morning. Reminded her of her first day in her platoon. She hadn't been entirely sure what to then, either.

Knox watches as the area fills with more people. He thought to himself Yes, this is the perfect way to make a good impression, sit in the corner away from everyone. GENIUS.

He stood up and inched his way over to the others that were sitting around. He eventually made his way over and grabbed a piece of toast, munching on that and listening to the conversation.

Brooks:

Brooks rolled out of bed in a half drunken stupor. The night before had been great for him, but he was disappointed that the Elixir had still be closed. Having it open meant free drinks and a much closer place to find to sleep for him. He pulled his pack out from under his bed and grabbed the bottle of painkillers he kept in it and took two.

Now time for some water and the greasiest thing Dray can cook up.

The door opened and he stumbled down the hall towards the common room and kitchen. He was a mess and eventually slumped down on the stool beside Kyra and rested his head in his arms on the table.

"Dray, coffee," he blabbed as he rose his head above his arms, barely peering over them. "Lot's of it."

Dray:

Dray was now racing around the kitchen. The mounting list of things to do for so many meant he'd be too busy to allow himself to think and sink back for at least a little while. He had thanked himself for cooking up bacon beforehand so he could just reheat it for Paladin when the need came and cook more eggs for him until then.

"Coffee," Dray said as he poured a cup for Brooks. "One milk, one sugar, correct?"

"Exactly," Brooks responded as he slid the mug closer to him, raising his head from his crossed arms on the table to take sips from it when possible.

Following Raven into the base, David was confused. The message he got was from a batarian named 'Verahl', and this guy definitely wasn't a batarian. Running what he knew about Aegis through his mind, he hit on the only name that would fit for a human in the companies command structure...Marcus Flint AKA 'Raven'. Well at least they're not passing me off on some HR flunky.

Walking into the mess area, he saw some other members of Aegis sitting and eating, while a salarian was looking like he was trying to be in three places at once. Nodding to the other members, he sat quietly waiting for Raven to finish his breakfast. As Dray poured Brooks' coffee, David caught the salarian's attention. "I'll have one of those as well." Using his biotics to pull the sugar across the counter to him, he added a spoonful of the white stuff, before cracking a small capsule of reddish powder into the drink. After a quick stir he took a long drink. "Ahhh That's much better."

Damn it, that's the third time I've done that.Thought Preven, almost signing in as a bouncer in a morning stupor. you're a merc now, and you'll remember that.It had been a month since the attack, and it was still a bit weird to think that he was now part of Aegis.

Making his way towards where the base was, Preven heard some voices in the mess hall. Curious as to who was in there, Preven walked in and saw several people. Some he recognised other's he didn't. Silently, Preven sat down, feeling it better to not interupt people from their breakfests, or whatever conversations they were having.

Paladin looked across at Sal, "good, I'm glad." He smiles a bit and looks over at Dray scrambling around the grill. "Geeze man, you keep up like that you're going to have a coronary. He stood up and walked behind the counter and opened the refrigerator, and grabbed a bottle of orange juice, then turned back to the people at the counter, "anybody else want something from in here?"

Rook:

Rook closed his Omni-Tool. He had been checking his mail for any updates. It had been a quiet week for him. Then again though, it had been a quiet week for the company as well. He didn't really have anything to send back on except things like "Found a new fish place in the market, better prices than anywhere else I've found on this station".

He sighed. He just wanted things to pick up again. He didn't like being cooped up in the base for extended periods. Things would change soon enough though for him, just needed to be patient and things would be back to normal.

He got up from the bunk he had been sitting on and stretched his arms. He hopes things would start to pick up. He opened the doors the barracks and walked out into the hall. He could see various people gathered around the table, as Dray cooked a variety of dishes for them. He stood and watched for a moment as Lee walked down the hall towards him.

"Rook," he said and nodded as he approached. "I thought you lived off base."

"I do, was working out a message to send to some friends on Illium, but I don't really have anything to tell them," he replied. "Nothing much has been going on these past few weeks for me to share with them."

"I know," responded Lee as the two began to walk down the hall towards the stairs. "I'd have expected life in the Terminus to be a lot more chaotic. All you'd hear in the Alliance was how the Terminus was this wild frontier filled with danger and thugs."

"It is, you've just been lucky so far," Rook said with a smirk as he walked over to the armoury. "Don't worry, you'll get your share soon enough."

Brooks:

Brooks had been sitting on the stool, half awake, half asleep, as he drifted between listening to conversations. No one had been paying attention to him. Most hadn't even acknowledged him sitting on the end stool. The only person who had paid any attention to him was Dray who had poured a cup of coffee in front of him that he'd been slowly sipping on.

Be nice to start training again. I'll try to work on the saluting: basic training in the Alliance kinda beats it into your head."

"Bah," Brooks said as he lifted his head from his arms, and looked over at Kyra. "Better off without them I say. All they're good at is taxing. Can't even keep a decent hold on the Traverse."

David sat quietly observing his new teammates, and generally just taking in the surroundings. Damn this is good coffee. He thought, slipping past the flying cook. If that salarian ever comes up for air I've got to ask him what the blend is.

"Bah, better off without them I say. All they're good at is taxing. Can't even keep a decent hold on the Traverse."

Nearly choking on his coffee as he sat down, he laughed. "Too true, they lack the balls to do what is necessary. I mean after Shanxi we should've dropped rocks on one of the turian's colonies. See how they like it when civilian casualties mount, maybe glass'em when we had the chance." Letting out a big sigh, he stretched. "Oh well, it's all a moot point now."

"I'm not going to argue with either of you." Kyra said, agreeing. "They sure as hell didn't provide us with any support when we were in the Verge. If it was such an important mission, why'd they only send a 6 man squad?"

She thought back to that day, the enemy pouring fire onto their position, the radioman frantically trying to get an artillery strike or evac or ANYTHING, but receiving nothing. Why had they sent her on that mission? Why had they decided it was necessary to sacrifice her team for questionable gain, and to provide no support beyond what they could carry on their backs?

Kyra took another sip of coffee, thoughtful. "I'll give 'em one thing, though. They did get me off of Elysium." she said, knowing full well that she probably would have gotten herself into trouble with one of the crime lords there by now.

"Those taxes going a long way toward making life a little better for Humanity, soldiers and civilians. Back on the ranch we'd get subsidies and support from the Alliance to help provide livestock for starter colonies. And of course, they keep their troops well equipped to protect those colonies."

He heard Brooks off to the side, laughing as soon as he said 'protection'. Ethan turned to the other human as he closed up the fridge. "Yeah, I know the Alliance hasn't been there on time every time, but we haven't had another Elysium after they showed the slavers what military power looks like."

"You're right Pali," Brooks replied, still with a bitter sarcastic tone. "They haven't let an entire colony get completely obliterated since then. Only mostly."

"Maybe now that Humanity's got pull from the Council we can do something about those Batarian raids, and besides, you know how the defense works, as soon as the Alliance gets a distress call we send in adamn Garrison"

"And how long is that response time again? Even C-Sec is quicker than them."

"C-sec has kilometers, the Alliance has light years. Even with that, they're fast enough that anything larger than a quick attack is crushed"

"It's life or death, when you're out there, you're alone, when something goes wrong, you NEED that help faster than they provide. Until they do, you're at the mercy of whatever's tearing the place apart."

"Unless you're armed and organized. I grew up on a colony too, I could shoot a gun by the time I was 10, we had a system for raids. We were prepared"

"And you think we weren't?" Brooks snapped as he got up from his chair and leaned over the counter. His hands were in fists, and still rested on the countertop. "We had weapons, we had Marines, but as soon as shit got too hard for them, they retreated into their fucking bunker leaving us farmers out there alone." He ripped his jacket off of the chair, and threw it at Paladin. "You see that? That's the logo to Liberty's Harvest, you know what happened there? Alliance tried their best to subvert the story to their ends in the reports."

Paladin caught the jacket and flung it on the ground, he slammed the door to the fridge and walked to the counter to get closer to Brooks, "Yeah actually, I did hear, and it was a damn shame, but the Alliance isn't big enough to be everywhere at once. Certainly not big enough to send a dreadnaught to meet every damn distress signal."

Dray sputtered something in the background, but neither Brooks nor Paladin listened. Both were glaring at each other, with only the counter dividing them.

"Trying to justify the actions of COWARDS?!" Brooks yelled as the rest of the kitchen fell silent. "Why don't you go back then and keep sucking on the Alliance's tit?"

Paladin's volume had risen to meet Brook's and his voice carried so everyone in the mess could hear him. "Because I've met Assholes and bastards in the Alliance as well, you know what I did, I shot the rapist in the head on my way out the door. You know what I didn't do? Blame the entire damn Alliance because things didn't work out for me."

Not wanting to get involved David got up from his seat, making some room between himself and the two men squaring off. Well this could be interesting...I wonder if this is S.O.P. for Aegis? Looking 'round at the other members he spotted a turian seated nearby. On reflex a grimace, usually reserved by most people for particularly foul smelling vorcha, crossed his face. Oh joy, we got us a skullface...guess I should play 'nice' for now.
